The best appreciating (and only) I have ever owned was a 2021 Toyota Sienna XLE. By the way fit and finish was perfect with no worry of a gas leak, squeaky brakes, excessive wind noise or motor grenading in it's 1st year.

Bought for $38k out the door, sold it to Carvana a year later for $49k and they sold it for $53K. Covid craziness pricing.

Only to be replaced by folks paying $75k or above for a 1/2 ton pickup truck.

I am in a similar situation wife and I lucked on when we got two vehicles new in 2020. The Camaro was right before Covid shutdowns and our Subaru Legacy in December 2020 basically back when and you can get deals or in the Subarus case the dealer begged us to take it so we got a nice discount. If I were to sell the Camaro I would make 15k or more than I paid for it out the door and the Subaru is about maybe $5k more than we paid for it. Both Depending on factors but I doubt that will be something that will happen again. Who knew they would turn into assets haha.

EDIT: Keep in mind they were not purchased with that in mind

Crappy pic but part II of "they swore COVID would change the dealer model forever."

"Get used to it, we're going to a permanent special order model."

the Toyota dealer where I got my 09 Crewmax new has about 10 Tundras in front and 10-12 more on an overflow lot. Likely more hidden in back. Online Inventory shows the 2 store chain has 75 total Tundras available. I'd have my choice of a number of hybrids and all the higher trims if I wanted to walk in and drive out at either location.

After this breaking news I wish them the best of luck doing whatever is needed to move all those trucks I was arguing with them about paying ADM on as a 2 time buyer and 10 year service department customer when I considered a Tundra a couple years ago.

I think the Defenders look fantastic and have the best commercials :) But wondering how reliable the newer are? I think that if trading Ur Tundra means it puts U in a bad financial bind, then U are understandably forced into rolling the dice and hoping for the best. We have a few trips planned out of state, towing a trailer. And we are seniors travelling with a dog, so we are very risk averse. Therefore, trading for a F150 equipped almost exactly how I would order it, and getting a decent decent deal in today's market, made good sense for us. I think that what people are not talking about and what makes a decision difficult is an almost total lack of facts from Toyota. Perhaps Toyota does not have a lot of information yet or perhaps Toyota is not being "Open Book" about the problem. Plus, not knowing Toyota's "fix" for the problem right away, and possibly not until the end of July makes decision making a crap shoot. Hopefully, Tundra owners will be treated well by Toyota and remain safe until the trucks are repaired or it is decided that repairs are not necessary for some of the trucks. In the meantime, this unfortunate situation is causing a lot of stress, financial and mental, for a lot of owners.

My opinion is that if I'm spending $60k+ on a vehicle, it has to be configured exactly the way I want it. My last 2 vehicles have been custom orders. If Toyota won't facilitate that, then it's not acceptable and that's why I haven't considered a Toyota/Lexus. Maybe that will change if they have so much in stock inventory that you can happen to find exactly what you want in the future.

Even he is suggesting people go with an F150 until Toyota resolves the problem with their engines.

When I was considering a Tundra, I wanted a Limited Double cab with every box checked and had a few acceptable colors.

It seemed like I could get that via the allocation process, but the dealer said it could take a long time to find a match because it's an unusual configuration. Then, they might not even be able to get it if some other dealer wanted it first.

It seemed kind of crazy compared to Fords where they often actually push you towards a custom order.

I was also told the configuration I wanted, LTD plus Sunroof only, red or blue, at 59k, never ever gets built. Every incoming build they showed me had packages I didn't want. But another dealer 45 minutes out showed a few in that config at that price in transit over the next couple months. Of course no dealer trades at the time.

Seemingly Not a system set up to facilitate customers maintaining a long term relationship with their preferred dealer. Always been what I tried to do so I can show a long history of money spent if I run into a problem.

I think I could have argued my way out of ADM but my preferred dealer just had no way to get me my build.

Not anymore. I don't consider it a truck if it doesn't have an 8' bed, sorry but anything less is a grocery getter. I had just started researching trucks to replace my 2016 F-150 XLT Supercab 8' bed 3.5EB a few months ago and after having replaced 2 broken exhaust studs on my Ecoboost, one under warranty and one on my dime I landed on Tundras.com. Initially with noise about the wastegate issue which didn't bother me, but then the bearing issue raised it's ugly head and here we are.

Funny thing is though Toyota is THE only manufacturer that offers a decently trimmed 1/2T in a four door with an 8' bed! Ford's only option for an 8' bed in 2024 is a regular cab XL! Granted my 2016 was a bit of a Unicorn back then, now it's a rainbow colored unicorn that can fly.

So I will watch and wait to see what happens going forward but at some point I guess I'll just have to buy and F-250 with the 7.3 and live with the harsher ride in my daily driven pickup.

It's always been the dealership fuckery that has prevented me from buying a new vehicle. Every time I tell myself I'm ready to pick something up I realize how much I hate interacting with car dealerships.

I don't feel the least bit sorry any dealership is sitting on inventory and losing money. They got over on people before COVID, during COVID and continue to after COVID.

Yes DR650s, mine's a 2007, wife's is a 2017 factory lowered. Great do it all bikes. They are secondary bikes for us, we both also have "street" bikes.

This guy gets it. I have literally every option that I want on my truck, and didn’t pay for a single option that I didn’t want. And that includes a lot of Toyota dealerships $2500 non-optional paint protection/theft protection/hand painted pinstripe/oil change bullshit.

I ordered my first F-150, bought my second from a dealer that traded with another to get it because I was past the order cutoff date and it happened to be near-exact to what I wanted anyway.

This one was a bit of a compromise and a purchase I made partly due to the timing. I had a private cash offer and the APR on '23s was low so I thought I'd look to see what was out there. I went back and forth with a few dealers. There was one perfect one a state over that I actually went to go see, but the dealer was playing games so I walked. This was the first truck that checked all of my non-negotiables where the dealer was willing to sell at invoice and didn't mess around when I stopped in.

My non-negotiables were Lariat 502a, PowerBoost, 360° cameras, tow package, sport appearance package, no moonroof, and not black, blue, or white. This one checked all of those boxes.

If I had ordered it, I would have ditched the power running boards and gotten the work surface, B&O Unleashed (this one has the 8-speaker B&O which has grown on me enough where it doesn't irritate me), and 7.2kw ProPower system instead (this is the 2.4) for roughly the same total in the end. But none of those were deal breakers for me. I also probably would have gone for silver like my last truck, but I do really like this light gray avalanche color. I get a lot of compliments on it in parking lots.

I guess you went to the wrong Toyota dealership cause I sure as hell went to the wrong Ford dealerships, four to be exact.

I was in the market for my truck the F150 was the only truck on my list. Not ONE dealer wanted to order or find the truck I wanted. A STX crew cab 4x4 5.0. All I wanted was the STX package and Bluetooth. Every single dealership I went too wanted to up sell to a 50k truck in 2020.

This drove me right back into the arms of Toyota. The only BS (never had any add ons I didn’t want)ever have listened to at my Toyota dealer was the extended warranty sales pitch. I got the exact Tundra I wanted with no unwanted extras.

And truth be told in retrospect the SR5 Tundra package is much nicer than Fords STX for the price (2020 model year).

Stx is bottom of the barrel, essentially an XL with nicer a grill, better comparison would be to an SR

My father in law has a STX and I respectfully disagree. Simplistic yes but it is nice inside. Very good truck hence why I wanted the same model. Never driven a SR Tundra but I have driven multiple XL’s at work and the STX had nicer seats.

Yup, STX fools people because of its appearance. They think it's well optioned but it really isn't. Basically a work truck with better looks and decent infotainment.

It isn't even really a great bargain a lot of the time. XLTs get all the incentives so they often don't end up being much more expensive than an STX in the end.

You clearly didn't do enough research on the Internet. Granger Ford was offering custom orders during the pandemic at 3% under invoice: https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/3-under-invoice-2022-f-150-order-granger-ford.353/

Not sure why dealers wanted to upsell trucks in 2020 because this should have been before the pandemic.

I drove my co workers sxt, it's actually an XL, with a "sport" package. 20" Michelins, Sync 3, privacy glass, fog lamps, and the STX labels.
What makes it an xl for me is vinyl floors.

    Where is Granger Ford located?

I got just over 10% off MSRP on my Tundra.

Sorry I don’t believe for one second that a dealership is selling any vehicle below cost especially for long periods assuming invoice is what they really paid…

I have always looked for trucks configured a certain way but was still flexible On details. Always found a way to purchase off the lot. Every transaction since I started buying cars at 24 has been drive trade in and drive new truck out in one day. Just don't have the patience to order something. When I decide I'm ready it means I'M READY, I do not want to drive my trade for 6 more months.

My journey on this last purchase was wanting a Tundra Limited with only the moonroof from the dealer chain I'd been doing business with for 10-plus years. When they couldn't get me one I started talking to another Toyota dealer and nearly pulled the trigger before deciding on a 5.0 Coyote powered Lariat F150 instead.

I ordered, despite the Ford salesman arguing with me about why I wanted to go the Caveman route rather than take one of the more powerful and economical Ecoboosts off his lot. Then a month later cancelled when I found my Powerboost with 7.2kw system on another lot

Only thing I didn't get on my F series that would have been nice but has never been make or break for me was leather. Couldn't do it on an XLT until I think '22 or '23 model year. Sometimes I think about doing it but never get around to it. May wait for these cloth ones to wear a bit more. Other than that and a few quality issues I'm happy with my choice as far as enjoyment and comfort.

I guess I fall somewhere in between the guy who says "I'll take anything" and the guy who says "I want the configuration there's only 2 of on any lot in this whole region." Only even cared about color this time around because my 7 year old badly wanted red and I figured it'd be cool for him to grow up knowing he picked the color on this one. By coincidence it's turned out to pop beautifully in the sun and always look clean.

    https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thr...n-any-2024-f-150-order-at-granger-ford.19456/

They are located in the Des Moines, IA area.

A friend of mine living in the Allentown, PA area just ordered an Expedition Max at 4% under invoice from them. He'll have it shipped home. The local dealers flat out told him they could not compete with Granger's pricing.

Invoice is not true cost as there are holdbacks depending on the volume of sales the dealership generates.

…some of you guys sound like the Ford dealerships I went to…

just sayin’ the STX was perfect for want I needed. And the particular models I was being pushed towards all would have cost a decent amount more even with very large discounts.

Crazy that you were not able to find Granger Ford. Ordered exactly how I wanted it and paid 3% under Invoice, they would have been happy to order your STX for you. They offer 4% under now.
