I have had both. The Ford 2.7L turbo in an edge ST and 3.5TT in an Expedition. Both were really good. The Expedition had the older 6 speed transmission and was the Gen1 version of that motor.

There is a flaw in the 2.7L in that they have the oil pump running on a belt that is soaked in oil. It won't be an issue until later in miles if you do the proper maintenance but is a bitch to replace. It is almost like Ford said we made this motor too well, we have to build in a flaw to kill them later.

The oil pump on a Ford 3.5L EcoBoost engine is mounted on the front of the block and is driven directly by the crankshaft

    I have also had a 2.7 and a 3.5 before my PowerBoost.

2.7 actually feels stronger than the 3.5 at low speeds because the turbos spool so fast. 3.5 feels better passing and towing. Though for 6k, the 2.7 will have plenty of power and that is the perfect use case for it. 2.7 got about 1 MPG better for me on average.

Only downside to the 2.7 is you can't get it on higher trim levels anymore. You used to be able to get a Lariat with one.

Same color as mine - Avalanche Gray

In bright sun, it looks mostly white unless you park next to something that's actually white to see the difference. When it's cloudy or darker, it is definitely more of a light gray.

    Non issue imo
I’ve seen two high miles 2nd gen 2.7’s with wet belts and none were replaced. It’s kevlar reinforced and I have not seen any failures.
Btw, the high miles I’m referring to are.
    1. 540k- stock and original everything
    2. 465k- also stock.

That's very funny, but very hard to believe.

Current failure rate is 1 in a 100 or so. So he had two failures in a row... In two separate trucks. What are the chances.

Well we went from 1/1000 failure rate to 1/100 over a week, who's to say it's not possible?

Who's to say they're both the same issue? Heck, the loaner could be something like a dead battery if it's been sitting on a lot for a while.

The 2.7 is probably the most well rounded half ton motor out there. Cheap, efficient, powerful and reliable.

That said, I think all of Fords motors are well sorted at this point.

If you have an Ecoboost, F150ecoboost.net is my favorite. There is not a lot of active members, but the ones that are there are very active and well informed. And there is little to no drama or BS.

I wonder what the recall does sales and prices for now, I can't imagine dealers who always want sticker plus markup are going to keep getting away with that through this.

I just traded in my ‘22 TRD OR yesterday at a GM dealership. They gave me several thousand more than the Toyota dealer would and didn’t seem to care or be aware of the recall. I bought the tundra for 2 big reasons. Reliability and holding its value. Both are in question now so I decided to try something different. We will see how the GMC 1500 Denali with the 3.0 Duramax does….

Did you buy the GM for reliability and holding its value too?

I traded my 2022 Tundra TRD ORP, 16k, for a 24 F150 XLT 3.5 ecoboost a week ago. Like it so far, much more equipment and I can tell it has leaf springs and not coils which is a different feel,,,, and hopefully the F150 won’t have the “Tundra Squat” when towing our travel trailer. All I want now is some peace and reliability.

On my drive home from the dealership. Suburb driving up to 65 mph, a few stoplights, traffic, I was pretty impressed with the diesel.

Hey Mike, I have 15,800 on my Elevation. I am at 25.9 over the life of the truck. We take it on trips and easily get 28.5-31 on trips through the Southeast.

Those numbers blow my mind. Very excited to have this engine. My wife’s Pilot might now sit in the garage when we hit the road for travels.

Its numbers like that (and IRS Section 179 weight exemption write off) which have me seriously looking at Tahoes / Yukons for the Real Estate Agent wife’s next rig instead of the GX550.

Number of friends have the babymax, and all LOVE the motor. Congrats, and best of luck.

Wow - congrats. with mileage like that who needs an EV?
A few years ago when my 18 tundra was newer - I once got 24 mpg. 9.9l/100.
I used to live in a valley and there was a gas station as soon as you drove out at the top.
One day, middle of the day when it was not busy, I filled up, and for shits and giggles, decided to put it in drive, and not hit the gas all the way downhill, and then level to my house. See the tach and speed in the pic.
So the Tundra 5.7 is good for 24 mpg if you can drive without gas pedal level road. 8^)
Otherwise with your conditions its a consistent 18 mpg.

Do you have the single leaf + overload or the two leaf + overload pack?

I put SumoSprings on my 2020 and don't think I'm going to on this truck because it seems to sag less than that one did. I think the new 2+1 pack is tougher than the previous generation since it's reserved for PowerBoosts and max tow/payload package trucks now.

Others get the single leaf and I'm not sure how that is.

I've replaced both sides exhaust manifold bolts on my 2016. Passenger side was covered under warranty but I just replaced the drivers side at 150,000kms to the tune of $3,000.

Here is a photo of what is on my truck. My truck has the tow / haul package and the FX4 package with AT tires. I am hoping that it will be
Pretty level when the trailer is hitched up.

The F150 rear shocks are traditionally very underdamped. This causes the leafs to "jitter" for lack of a better term over bumps. At least that is how my 2014 was.

While I don't think you can get it to be quite as smooth as a coil sprung axle, a set of upgraded shocks(Bilstein 5100's or similar) are usually a cheap way to improve the ride quite a bit. They are a little firmer but they control the leaf much better and get rid of some of that feedback you get.

I hate to say it but $3000 for doing one side is heinous. When I did my drivers side I had the turbo and manifold out in about 2 hours and the whole thing reassembled in about 4 hours total taking my time in my garage with my limited selection of tools. I replaced all of the studs with ARP stainless studs and I think the total cost for me with all of the gaskets for the turbos and stuff was ~$400.

Hopefully your shop used the new stainless steel manifolds.
