That would be same around Tampa Fl. You don’t want to break down in the center lane of I275 with folks flying around you doing 80+ mph.

All is fair game in a vs thread and Ford owners have taken it like champs. Not like I'm popping into a Tundra only thread.

"...Toyota is more reliable than Ferd crap, drove a Powerboost that died on the test drive."

"OK Toyota has issues but the company handles them better."

"OK they just recalled 100k motors for metal chips but I can't live my life worrying."

100% I go to Tampa frequently. With speeding distracted drivers a catastrophic engine failure on a highway isn't a joke. Idk why someone wouldn't worry about that, with the wife and kids in the car that would be a nightmare.

Just a little but I can't too badly because karma says my head unit would go black right after I got off this thread and got in my truck and as per my self imposed rule I'd have to report back here and take my lumps

Some of their common failure points were also failure points on their V8’s btw. Look up cam phaser issues on the 5.4L

Timing chain stretch happened on a number of the early direct injected motors, turbo or not, and that was largely fixed by improved oils.

Those were two issues on two different generations of 3.5L. The 1st gen had the timing chain issue largely because many of them were operated on oils not well suited for DI motors. 2nd gen had phaser issues due to a faulty design from Borg Warner which they fixed in 2 years.

what other issues were there? The 3.5 has had those issues with the timing components but other than that has been a fairly solid motor.

The 2.7 was a pretty solid engine right from the get go.

Cam phasers, I think exhaust manifold bolts and a crap ton of coolant and oil fittings known for early leaks have been revised over the years. At some point they went to dual injection over excessive carbon build up.

There is a Ford tech on youtube who does great videos. breaks down the generations of 3.5 ecoboost in great detail.

My 10r80 is still thankfully going strong and smooth but now they have traced some failures to a poorly designed drum that houses clutches in there that can go bad. Took them like 6-7 model years to understand that and now a revised part is going into trucks diagnosed with that failure.

8yr ESP with rental coverage was worth it for piece if mind. Took one 15 day experience of getting a crappy dealer loaner that I was lucky was available at all to make me buy it.

Ah yeah the 1st Gen exhaust manifolds were an issue. But that ended in 2016 when the 2nd gen came out. Ford did release upgraded stainless steel manifolds.

Like I said though, the phasers are not exclusive to the Ecoboost. They had issues with the 5.4L V8 phasers well before the Ecoboost ever came out. That is not a TTV6 problem

Checking in on Stellantis I'm suddenly seeing the UAW stoke the rumor mill with accusations the company is deliberately sabotaging new Jeeps and Rams with things like excessively short wiring harnesses to cause qc problems that give it ammo to blame them and move more production to Mexico. Guess I'll be taking my time watching the multi tear track record of the new hybrid Ram.

Exactly. When it was a pile on of people touting "a fraction of a percent" despite no real info who were discrediting anyone who brought up the failures that was gravy. Was it karma that was listening and fed them a crow sandwich?

Flushed my 2022 Tundra turd last fall after dozens of minor issues knowing the engine was a ticking time bomb. Oh and the Raptor has been flawless. Couldn't be happier. Trade now while you can!

I'm not sure I believe them but in general if that level of hostility and suspicion and expectation of job losses is there that that accusation is flying it doesn't bode well for the next few years of qc on new models.

    much more fun doing that

I’m in a rain delay building the trampoline for the kids.

I did go to Menards and get 10 sand bags, 10 bags of mulch, 10 rubber tiles, 2 propane tanks and it auto leveled perfectly and didn’t blow up on the way home, so I have that going for me today

2017+ 3.5s got dual injection for the carbon buildup issue.

Cam phasers in the 3.5 were fixed for MY2020 - I don't think I've read any reports of 2020 and up trucks with that issue. My 2020 was fine up to about 80k when I traded it, and I think that issue usually appears long before then.

I think all 2023s and some 2022s got the revised CDF drum for the 10R80. There's a TSB somewhere that mentions the build date cutoff.

I got a 6y/125k w/ rental for my PowerBoost. I figure that'll line up with my likely ownership duration and miles.

    Craptor! Haha, Good one!

Stay married to your Tundra, too bad she put on 50 pounds and sits on the couch, nobody wants her. You're right trade in value isn't worth it now.

Why would I care about trade value right now , I’m not trading it for a while

and it’s not like ford leads the way for resale value anyway

not sure what the 50 lbs thing is, is that @Bannerman tasteful thickness thing?

    try harder

So these Tundys having a Stop Sale would also prevent a dealer from selling a used one too I’m pretty sure. So I wouldn’t worry about trade-in value were I a Tundra owner, would a dealer would even take it on trade before there is a fix?

Yes, with any active recall or stop sale , no go on trade in at a dealer

mine isn’t recalled right now anyway, but I’m not looking to move from it anyways for now
