I have a power bed step comes down right when you open the bed , I don’t get what we are missing there, the gmc transformer tailgate had way too many failure or rattle points for my liking, but I understand if others like that

I’ve had 4wd auto and also have not had it on trucks , I dont get the fascination with that here , it’s not a big deal to push a button when I want 4wd. I could see for much less experienced people how maybe that would be nice but I really don’t have any value for that

I would much rather have the on board generator of some sort if we are going to bang on Toyota to add features for the same price . Tundras are usually a little cheaper trim vs trim from what I shopped

I use 4A when it rains, we don’t get much snow here. That’s the most practical application for me.

My neighbor ran his suburban in 4-auto every day. Destroyed the transfer case, needed full replacement around 40,000 miles.

you really find that much traction loss when it’s rain only ? Interesting, I’ve never needed to use either system for that

bit if you have it and like it, that’s good.

I’m not suggesting it’s an absolute necessity in a truck, but it’s a super handy feature and should be an option in a $60k+ vehicle.

4A systems are awesome in inclement weather when you’re driving in the pavement, heck even for spirited driving. Our Tahoes have 4A as well as 4HI and 4 Lo.

4A makes a world of difference when your on the pavement. Really disappointed Toyota did not offer it on the Tundra.

My old 04 Explorer has all wheel drive as well as 4 Hi 4 Lo, currently sitting at 220k. No issues with the drive train. Replaced front axles at around 150k preventively along with a hub bearing. Truck sits on 22” wheels. Handles superbly wheel for a vehicle that size.

Have they figured a way to put two functions on the same screen on the Tundra yet?

The wife's timberline explorer has an awd fill time system. Subaru makes the best awd symmetrical system on the market, period. Toyotas is a basic copy of the subaru system but still misses the mark with the symmetrical part. Honestly I ran AWD in the ford's very rarely mostly going for 4hi. The ford option for 4awd is good in slush or wet snow but is garbage in ice and hard packed snow conditions.

I am sure glad you like your tremor, I looked at them and turned down a stripped Raptor (no roof, no decals, no sunroof) to go with the Tundra. The 3.5 liter eco boost is a good motor and the v8 option in the f150 isn't bad either. I am very familiar with the f150 interiors and almost think the 2011s had better plastic bits than the newer ones. There are some things I don't like about tundra as well like the hood caps. Having the brake hold option is nice to have plus I really do like the roll down back window. People aren't buying tundras because they are vastly superior to ford, they buy them due to the materials, workmanship and reliability have traditionally been a lot better than domestic manufacturers.

As for current conversation, I’ve never had desire for always on 4wd in the Black-Ho. It is kinda nice in the wife’s Grand Cherokee though.

I get it, I’m a longtime Toyota guy. I’ve just seen the quality dip as they refreshed models, started with the third GEN Tacoma, and continued with the third GEN tundra,

If your putting 37’s on your truck and doing all those mods to make them fit, then surely its ok to put the raptor t-case into you base model $40000 F150. Plenty of people do it. I think the t-case is only like $1500

If your 2011 had 4Auto then thats probably why it was garbage on ice. My 2014’s 4Auto is hyper sensitive to wheel spin and sets the traction control to kill mode. Ive asked about it and people with 2015 and newer F150’s say its not an issue.

I fixed it by using HPTuners to reduce how much engine power gets cut when a traction control event happens so instead of just killing power completely it still can power through while ABS system trys to control wheel spin and it works way better

After owning my 1995 4Runner and 2011 GX460, im still not a “Toyota guy”. I like both of them, they both have their pro’s, but I havent found them to be anything super special that I can get with other brands. My GX has issues just like any other car ive owned. No better, no worse.

I think any toyota truck released after 2007 is like that.

I don’t think anybody’s saying any of those features are necessary, but they are necessary if you want to be competitive at this price point in today’s market

Not sure I follow your circular reasoning, but I wanted a premium truck with premium features, and the tundra didn’t offer those features

Today I was looking at Kayak options for my Ford and thought a design where a cab height bar folds up out of the bed rails and one or two more fold out of the roof could be the next frontier in feature packing now that we've gotten everything we can out of a tailgate.

Yeah chevy makes a 2 door small block v8 327 with 4 wheel drive. However everyone wants the full 4 door suv like trucks with the truck beds. Ford, toyota, dodge, and chevrolet make huge margins off full size trucks. Granted toyota didn't really raise prices till recently but fully loaded raptors are 82kish. Up till a few years ago subaru was still making the 250 hp forester xt. Put some all terrains on it and you have an suv that can out perform 90 percent of raptors and trd pros. It is the bargain off road vehicle. Mitsubishi off road systems from back in the raider / montero/pajeo days was amoung the best around.

I think all new mdoels get bad reps until they have been out for 2 years or in production for 18 months. This gives the auto maker time to work things out. The toyota land cruiser is on the right path for what affordable off road vehicles should be. However if you want stripped base models for 30-40k fully loaded then those days are long gone. You have options though stx f150s and Sr tundras should be in the mid 40 range that you all want to be.

I wonder if it's as exhausting repeating how great and manly it is to drive base model vehicles like Real Trucks™ ten times a day as it feels just reading the anecdotes on this thread.

I'll also point out my Tundra has heated AND VENTILATED rear seats. F-150's do not. Checkmate Ford.

My puppy's ass will remain properly heated and cooled while I pick up a gallon of paint to throw in my otherwise empty truck bed.

I had a 1995 Camry about 10 years ago that only had 78k miles on it. Then the transmission blew up at like 85k miles and I got rid of it for $900.

So technically I've already driven a Camry. Checkmate again.

Also I ride my bicycle 22 miles round trip to work when I go in and other vehicle is an EV, so I can pretty much do anything with the Tundra without feeling bad.
