I test drove a crew cab Bighorn Ecodiesel back in 2017ish and it had ~1200 lbs of payload. I then drove down the street and test drove a Colorado Z71 Duramax and it had almost 1450

ya and a big horn is down the trim level, when you really load them up it goes really low.

we used to talk on the ram site with guys like how they hell can I have a tow rating this high with 975 lbs of payload, lame

Sounds like they need to start using some aluminum body panels

When I was interested in a Ram Ecodiesel, I was on the forum, and most of the guys just justified it by saying they were under the axle ratings even though they added up to like 8000 lbs while the truck had a GVWR of 7200 or whatever it was.

My 09 Crewmax 4x4 SR5 on 18s had 1200 and change and my 4x4 Powerboost longbed on 20s with sunroof is 1468 which would likely be in the 1500 pound range if not a hybrid. Most Definitely the aluminum is a difference maker.

Before Ford went aluminum you could still get a decent payload with the max tow package. It increased the GVWR up to 7700 lbs vs I think 7200 or 7350 for the normal trucks. My fully loaded 2014 lariat with 20's, factory bed liner, wheel well liners, moon roof and pretty much everything has 1560 lbs of payload. The thing weights 6140 lbs with nothing in it though.

The same truck from Ford now would have 7050 lb GVWR but its ~700 lbs lighter so it works out to about the same payload.

I don't even have the max tow package, didn't show up on the lot that way. My understanding is people who opt for the Powerboost are generally advised against paying for that option on the forums because a number of the components come on the hybrid standard anyway without Max tow. And if you buy the package to get the last couple things advertised payload benefits are mostly cancelled out by the weight of the hybrid system.

That’s what my Tremor is I think. Maybe 7000 GVRW. Payload is 1577, with almost every option and 33” ATs. (When stock)

Haha...that van brings back memories. I was a struggling 19yo that just started working construction (many lifetimes ago it seems now) and I need transportation with the ability to haul tools and under $2,500. Enter aerostar! All my buddies laughed at me but it worked. I could even get my old KDX 200 in the back with the seats out and pulling the front wheel off.

the max tow package doesnt change the GVWR anymore and hasnt since 2015. So its kinda like all 2015+ F150s have the max tow gvwr.

And no, with the Powerboost it really doesnt gain you much.

On another note here is a 2024
Build as close as I could get to mine. XLT high 4x4 Powerboost with 7.2 kw generator on 20s.

I'm honestly surprised it's not as far off from my 63k sticker in 2022 as I thought. The big sticking point is there is now apparently an even higher XLT package you have to take to get the twin panel moonroof that suddenly moves you to 69 if that is a must for you, which it is for me.

It was a stand alone 1400 option on mine. What was XLT high is now XLT mid and a couple of the options there seemed to have been moved to a new more expensive XLT high package.

It is a price increase but doesn't initially look like it until you realize you have to buy higher packages within the XLT trim to get the same equipment levels.

Because if there's anything Ram needs, it's for their rear windows to leak the way GM's do.

My great Uncle did the same. They would get a new Chevy or GMC every 2-4 years but they would put those trucks through the wringer.

For probably the 8th or 9th time since I bought my Powerboost the power went out. And as I grabbed my flashlight and the keys all set to open a window, run some heavy gauge cords and impress my family powering my first floor via my truck with the setup I've mapped and tested it went back on about 60 seconds later Just like every other time.

Wife and son both laughed at me.

I am told we get squirrels zapping themselves running through transformers that usually turns the block off for just a minute or two. In the dozen or so years I've been here it's been out for several hours a handful of times. Otherwise 1-2 minutes.

Since this group is such a big numbers thing.
I would like to see the fleet and rental sales broken out from the retail - average customer numbers.
When a family member worked as a regional manager for Enterprise he would be in a different full size pickup - Ford GMC or "Dodge" every time I saw him.

If Toyota cared about challenging the numbers in this segment they would be expanding and offer fleet and rental also. Do they today? assuming not.
They are selling every Tundra they make.
But then with the higher numbers ...trying to control parts and operations, other logistics becomes more difficult. JMO

They have a whole fleet division. There is a place near me that upfits fleet trucks, they regularly have a full lot of Tundra and Tacomas.

Interesting. When he worked for Enterprise it was before the new Tundra came out.

just leaving Florida and couldn’t agree more, not one truck I saw gets used more than for pulling our the boat at the boat ramp

the 2 times I’ve flown into Texas this year they had a fleet of rental tundras in Houston. Saw 2 in North Carolina as well

Gotcha, could be different in Canada too. But point is there are rental and fleet Tundras just like the big three, just less since there are proportionally such a tiny amount of Tundras sold.

They need to combine the Silverado and sierra under one GM half ton umbrella. It’s the same truck with a different badge

Yup. My curb weight is 5900. GVWR 7200. Axles 4000/4150. When I'm at my most loaded down, I'm still under the axle ratings.
Yeah. The 2/2.5 gen Tundra was designed when the term "half ton" actually meant that you have about 1000 lb of capacity after you get in the truck. Two of the million mile guys drove theirs with 2700lb+ in the bed for more miles than any of us will own our trucks, though. I am a bit overweight probably once a month or less. I'm not worried about premature wear or a ticket or not having insurance cover an accident (which is a complete and total urban legend).

I'm sure you're living large with your extra 200 lb now though hahaha
Same. I'd go 1 ton though. It's either that or supercharge this and keep being occasionally overweight.
