I will let someone else explain any differences. I think a bigger difference is the driver and if he grew up driving stick or not. People that drive manual transmissions are more in tune with the engine tranny sounds. Especially with my 18 Tundra you can play with the throttle so the engine and tranny are in the sweet spot more = better mileage. I can show 17 L / 100 km any time I want by not caring.

I can also say that '22 Ford Limited 3.5 I mentioned we drove around in at the cottage was showing 13 - 14 L /100 going up and down the Hills of the Highlands. I am anxious to hear/see what the GMC 6.2L will be showing.

Ouch, we have a 6.2 Chevy Transport van. It averages about 9 to 10 miles per gallon. That thing is custom built 4x4 for consideration….

I don't know what he was thinking when he bought it. Stats say it gets 14 mpg in town. He is in town driving alot.

Maybe I didn’t understand what you were saying. I was not talking about transmissions, I thought you were saying the MPG may be different between the Gen2 Tundra and the quote 2.5 like you have. I always thought the “2.5” was just a minor facelift, still the same truck, so efficiency would be the same.

    2.5 got a 38 gallon tank after 2016. 2 only has the 26 gallon.

So, to the original question, the GM will probably go farther than the Gen 2 (but not the 2.5) unloaded but the gen 2 will go 20 miles farther when they're both getting 10 mpg towing.

It'll be a long time before EVs are a complete viable solution.

For a pickup that is doing a bit of towing, I need about 1500 of unloaded range because real towing range is probably 1/3rd of that. Also, factor in loss of battery capacity based on age.

One aspect that forces you to have significantly higher battery capacity is that there are no pull through EV chargers that can accommodate a trailer.

Yeah, battery energy density is not even close yet. I barely make the 200 mile trip to the beach towing my boat, and that's with a 36 gallon tank. I'd have to stop to charge twice with a Lightning.

what truck do you have now that can tow 500 miles? Maybe a diesel HD with a 48 gallon tank?

My F150 has a 36 gallon tank and will do about 300 before I start getting really nervous. I just did a stretch yesterday from Elko NV to my house in UT that was exactly 270 miles and still had about 6 gallons left when I got home, but that was ~4 hours and about as far as I can go before someone has to pee.

None - but my point was there are also no pull through EV charging stations designed for a tow vehicle + trailer either.

So to make up for the lack of viable EV charging stations for tow vehicles + trailers, the EV tow vehicle has to have a greater range than conventional ICE tow vehicles.

Not to mention it takes many multiples of time to charge vs filling up a tank. That's a huge factor for many people.

Having a 1500 mile range means a 700 kwh battery at this point. So we'll all be driving Class 8 semis with 1200 lbs of payload to tow our pop up campers.

1500 mile range? Is there anywhere on earth that is 1500 miles from a gas station? Lol or a charger

I think his point is that an EV gets about 1/3 of its advertised unloaded range while towing a trailer. And because the chargers locations/positions dont really allow for charging with a trailer, you kinda have to just get all the way to your destination on a single charge.

The current crop of EV trucks only have a 100-150 mile towing range in good conditions, and there are absolutely places I have been in southern UT where I couldnt get in and out of with my camper.

Ya, I get it. I think electric is totally the way for running around town, commuting, and so on. Probably the next car we get the wife will be an electric. But I am not getting anywhere near an electric pick up for anything. Right now they are just way to expensive for the capability.

The Powerboost is going in for the parking brake wiring recall Thursday. The wire Does not look damaged squeezed between its bracket and the axle so they said it should be a simple sub-one business day repair that involves relocating the wire and adding tape wrap. I want to believe them but I flash back to the tailgate rewire fiasco over the summer that turned into 15 days of faulty software diagnosis and I
Get the chills. Other people are doing makeshift fixes and I am tempted but I don't want to do something with the wire and run into an issue with it later and get hassled for doing my own fix instead of having the dealer handle it.

With My luck just trying to pull it off the bracket to move it around would damage something.

The way things are today if its under warranty I would not mess with it.
My wifes outback is the easiest oil change in the world oil fiter is even on top exposed 8^0 , but I won't do it while under warranty.

I have seen a number of New Tundras with the cabs off for repairs.
Here is an F150 Tremor White with 400 miles showing how the cab comes off. This DIY mechanic (it appears) bought it and and it needs a new frame due to accident.

EDIT - shows how a bent frame can write off a vehicle. Even though overall the damage does not appear so bad. The parts nearby are intact.

Interesting for 10 mins so sharing.

Im rather disappointed with the 2024 F150 and just how much they crushed the ability to really be selective about options and engine choice. Its just as bad as any brand it seems like now.

Also, I really hope the F200 is a heavy half ton and that the loss of HDPP isn’t permanent. I find it hard to believe the didnt sell HDPP’s because I see a lot of them around as contractor/fleet trucks.

I was talking to a guy at work with a 22 Platinum, on 35s like my truck, it's even white. He said he's consistently getting 13 MPG, is that typical? No towing. He didn't seem that upset with it since it was better than he got with his 2nd gen.
