I had an awful 2022 Lariat experience. Ghost in the machine gremlins that the dealer couldn't' fix. Long delays to get an appt, no parts, no ability to program the truck once the modules arrived. I get it back and three or four more random things happen. Mirrors don't fold out, sunroof opened and every once in a while the radio would emit a full volume screeeeeech.
They lemon lawed mine and having had so many fords I just wrote it off as a "bad one". I won't post the link but on Jalopnick there's an article about many having the same random problems I was having and dealers not being able to figure it out. The Ford forum, where people with Ford's can be with like people, are lit up with the same experience. So glad I got out of the Ford. It was like getting food poisoning at a restaurant. It will be a while before I can go back.

I bought a Tundra because I think they stand the best chance of supporting the customer if there is a problem. the Tundra isn't perfect but I haven't had one random bout of moody bullshit with it in 4000 miles. Tweeked some stuff with Carista and have had no reason to go back to the dealer.

That's why it will only be a 2024 F150 or a 2024 Tundra for me. Both manufacturers could use another MY to work through the issues of new platforms.

Because 2024 is a refresh year for the F150. Software updates are simple, but if there's a hardware change for the instrument cluster or infotainment system, that is significant because it's hard to upgrade that after the fact.

I think there's evidence that Ford has been committed to quality improvement. My working assumption is that if there are TSBs and solutions/fixes for those problems, then they are all going the right direction.

The biggest advantage of the Ford, in my opinion, is the factory 2.0kW peak 1.4kW continuous inverter. That is a game changer - to be able to run a decent size tool like a portable air compressor with a tank or even an electric grille off the truck. I really don't want to be trying to install an aftermarket setup like the amateur hour installs that I've seen on this forum.

Also, the 36 gallon fuel tank also has the advantage for long distance towing. I wish Toyota kept a 38 gallon fuel tank capacity as in the previous generation.

How many times have you shared that in this thread? Feel like I've seen your story at least 5 times recently. Should I start posting my 2022 Tundra problems weekly as well so we can be yin and yang?

    Every Ford is a lemon!

    or

Toyota has never had a bearing failure, failure rate is .000000001%!

In reality, they both fall well short of my expectations for the money. Ford sucks, and Toyota sucks equally in my experience.

So the issue I see with Toyota is that when they haven't updated/improved their design in so long, their "past behavior" doesn't really apply because their past behavior was to keep the status quo.

If they were committed to major re-designs every 8 years and refreshes every 4, it would be easier to compare their quality control and reliability to Ford.

IMO, that colour doesn't suit a big work truck like that. I'd save it for the Maverick or 2.7 F150.

There weren't any Tundras on the lot in December 21....

Having been a staunch Toyota/Honda owner since 1997, I would have Tundra'd and just STFU over mpg of the last generation. Which by any standards is atrocious. So there is a 21 F150 in my driveway with about 22k on it. Many highway miles. Lots of towing to. Helping kids move. yada yada. Lifetime average MPG 19.7mpg. Recalls. Wiper motor (mine hasn't caused any trouble), a software recall to eliminate false alerts when hitched to a trailer, and there is another coming soon for wiring to the E brake getting damaged by rubbing on the rear axle. I now change the oil not every 5k. Was closer to 6500 due to the long distance drives I was doing. I refuse to waste a day on those long distance trips visiting a dealer for service. Ford says 10k. No way in hell am I doing 10k OCs.

I'm liking it alot. Even wife has gotten to like it. She was a critic. Much to my chagrin, the kids call it Clifford. The Big Red Truck......

They must have improved it in later years. Was 95 when I left the beach this morning and 102 by the time we got home. Wife packs heavy with two kids and we were there for a week so you do the math.

You should get a load distributing hitch to help with that sag.

Are you able to put a WDH on an aluminum frame boat trailer (versus a typical steel flat bed or enclosed trailer)?

I will say that sag doesn't necessarily mean it's unsafe or unbalanced - the only way to know for sure is to take it to a certified weigh scale and see your steer, drive, and trailer axle weights.

Towing a boat is one of those scenarios where it would be beneficial to have an HD pickup truck - which Toyota does not make.

Some can, some can’t, but that’s a good point I wasn’t thinking of. That amount of sag would bother me.

We know they both have a softer suspension that articulates better off road. I am actually surprised its not squatting more.
If I ever see a pickup truck, or even a 4Runner squatting, with a mid sized boat, they are usually the brands top off road versions.

If someone tows a lot and wants to get rid of the squat, yeah you could change out the suspension (kinda defeats the purpose of buying that model doesn't it?), get a WDH as was suggested, if a boat just move the boat, if the post is adjustable back a touch on the trailer.
I saw a new Tundra stopped at a light towing a really big RV trailer with 2 ATV’s in the bed. It was squatting a lot. All I could think was I hope he is not going far.

No, it has about 4 inches of rake from the factory(biggest complaint from most people), I replaced the suspension in the front and the shocks on the rear.

They do a pretty good job with the Tremor, the top half of the suspension is very soft, and then firms up obviously when you hit the overload springs(or whatever you call them). So it would actually be sitting level if I had not raised from the front end two inches. One of the advantages of leaf springs over coils.
