2023 JD Power initial Quality Ratings.

    https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2023-us-initial-quality-study-iqs

    For Trucks
Ram is No. 1 followed by Nissan Titan and GMC Sierra.

Overall Vehicle Ford and Toyota are neck and neck - both below average.
They both dropped down from above average in 2022.
This is surprising since in 2023 there are many Toyota Assembly lines that won awards for quality if you read the article. That implies to me that other Toyota assembly lines brought the numbers down.
Would have been interesting to see the new Tundra assembly line problems summary.
I also am reading this as - the more problems, the more possible visits to the dealer with a new vehicle.

I read an article saying large picks ups was the most unreliable class of vehicles. So it’s settled. We all suck . So Toyota stop bragging about being the best in the worst category

Was that before or after the article saying most vehicles that will go over 200k miles are trucks or full size body on frame SUVs?

But how many engines and transmissions did they have to replace to get to 200k?

Looks like the 3rd gen Tundra issues are dragging on Toyotas numbers, unless there is another problem vehicle launch I am unaware of.

Any survey that ranks Alfa Romeo as the highest quality luxury brand is suspect in my opinion. Even when only considering initial quality, like this survey does, vs. long term reliability, I find it shocking that Alfa would rate that highly.

Something is dragging on the numbers because they have many Assembly plants that won 2023 awards.

well you really cant compare any toyota plant to the tahara plant. tahara is the pinnacle of production for toyota. everything is compared to them regarding build construction, quality, workmanship, etc.

my 2014 4runner was built in that plant and is still being made to this day in that plant. i just hope the 6th gen continues production in tahara :)

Same route SATX to Oklahoma got 18.9 in the 23 pilot. Raptor got 17.3 mpg. That 1.5mpg difference is worth owning over the pilot lol

591 tank range so far. Going to try to baby it to crack 600

This is the same tank from my last mpg post, couple hundred miles later. Predominately highway with a good amount of heavy throttle with a little stop and go. Could probably get 24-25 if I truly hypermiled but I can't handle all that pissing off drivers around me.

Taking the opportunity at the start to maximize e mode and pad my average early seems to have enabled me to the stay in the 21-22 mpg average range through the heavy driving that came later.

Looking at a nearly 700 mile tank if I can stay disciplined a bit longer.

Then back to sport mode it is.

I once hit 720 in my 2014 Ecoboost. Took all 36 gallons but it did it.

My 09 Crewmax was an overall great truck that had a lo of qualities I'll miss but man, I'd have had to hypermiled to a level that might have gotten me shot to hit 15 in mixed driving and get 300 miles out of that little tank.

Is that data for the 22+ Tundra and F-150?I ask because it seems a pretty consistent issue of people not understanding you can’t compare the outgoing Tundra as part of this discussion.

Well, since the maintenance data goes out to 12 years, yes, it would have to be based some on older generations or years for both vehicles.

I do agree that you can't always use the past data to make future predictions when there's a significant change, but this is the best we have.

One look at the Major Repair probability tells you the whole story- Year 12 of 59% for the F-150 and only 36% for the Tundra? Sounds like Ford is building their trucks to 'last'! LOL...

Which is why people should just stop worrying that whatever truck they buy is going to instantly leave them stranded on the side of the road and just buy whatever makes them happy.

Meanwhile 90% of the people on this forum seem to trade in for a new Tundra every 6 years, so who cares.

But, to be clear, they consider a "major repair" to be anything >$500 including parts and labor. Exact quote:
"We consider anything that exceeds $500, including parts and labor, to be a "Major Repair"."

You could replace wheel bearings or brakes at a shop and be more than $500 easy. I had ball joints and wheel bearing done on my Jeep and im pretty sure it was almost $700 all in and that was like 6 years ago. Its not like we are talking engines or transmissions here.

9 years if you exclude Dr. Z
The new Tundra is now a warranty vehicle anyways.

lol, he moves the entire ave like 6 years less

and my old tundra was a warranty vehicle as well and so will the 23 Sienna and 23 Tundra I bought recently. All new vehicles are super complicated now and the repairs are stupid expensive, especially given the great pricing we get here on the extended, its a no brainer for me

My 18 Tundra and 17 4Runner are no longer under warranty. He crosses fingers. I am keeping them. Thats the plan.
You know just talking.. as an IT guy what scares me the most "currently" about the new Tundra is not the engine, or transmission or the I still believe chronic problems until they get the new bed material dialed. Plastic vibrates at a higher frequency than steel. People i know say it rattles.
No I am most concerned about this.

    https://autoparts.toyota.com/products/product/receiver-assy-radio-861400c440

You know what that is in Canadian dollars ? sheesh....
With AI ...Tech will be changing alot. No way this Panasonic sourced head unit will be able to be updated. And remember and I say this with dry humor. I run Windows 11 because my apps force it - otherwise I would still be on Windows 7, and actually I still am- those laptops are still music servers now at home.

    @Bannerman
    @Mattedfred

Its driving around with the large Tundra rear window down that exposes the noises of the plastic bed and the new frame.
Compared to the steel bed anyway I was told.
Not too familiar with the Tacoma, but I don't believe Tacomas have ever had a full rear window that rolled down?
