I didn’t purposefully leave it out the picture was too small to see on my phone but not having parts to do said repair would not be a scheduling conflict. It would also matter if the vehicle is safe to drive.

Yup. I went Nissan Frontier and glad I did. I was going to go Tacoma but it was down on HP and torque compared to the Frontier. The Frontier also has some issues but nothing scary like the Tundra. Also Toyota customer service is terrible. Had the pleasure when I had the 4wd problem on my 2022 Tundra.

Seems to me these criteria listed on the webpage you posted are not legally airtight for the customer, and if a dealership wants to frame the situation as a scheduling conflict (as in, “the Toyota engineer we need to quickly diagnose and repair this truck isn’t scheduled to be here until next week”—note this has nothing to do with parts availability), then there is sloppy enough language in the warranty conditions you posted to deny a loaner, despite how much one attempts to negotiate.

Well that would depend if the vehicle is safe to drive

Yes, if the warranty work takes longer than one day to complete, or if the vehicle requires extensive diagnosis, or if parts aren’t readily available, or if the vehicle is unsafe to drive and they have to keep it overnight, they have to give you a loaner UNLESS the reason they have to keep it is due to “dealership or owner scheduling conflicts.”

Point 3, the exception: “The Transportation Assistance Policy does not apply when warranty repairs can be completed in one day but the vehicle must be kept overnight due to dealership or owner scheduling conflicts.”

This is lame because “dealership or owner scheduling conflicts” is a poorly defined, broad, and nebulous term. They could have all the parts and be ready to fix it in one day with minimal diagnosis, and it could be unsafe to drive, but if the engineer they’ve scheduled to bring in to do the diagnosis/repair can’t make it till next week, and that is the only reason the work must wait, it seems pretty apparent to me that they can get out of having to give you a loaner because it is a scheduling issue, not a parts/diagnosis/work time frame/unsafe vehicle issue.

Personally, I don't think "overnight" is the same as "over thirty nights" or whatever the number would be. If they keep it more than over a night then they owe a loaner vehicle; the language doesn't seem tricky to me. The definition of "overnight" states a night.

I was/am in a unique situation. My truck went straight from the test drive into service, after it was technically sold and my Nissan traded towards the deal. They told me to keep the Nissan as a loaner, since technically it was their truck. I am now 22 days in and still have the Nissan. The delay in repairs on the new Tundras is beyond absurd.

Sure, and I agree about overnight not being the same as keeping it for a month, but I don’t see any language from Toyota preventing it from applying to several “overnights” in a row. Seems like an easy rule for hard-nosed dealers to hide behind. That is, if they’re not hiding behind not having enough inventory to be able to loan out a vehicle…
Yikes. That sucks to hear. I do think at least some of that delay is supply-chain related, but that doesn’t make it any easier to be without the truck you paid for.

I know, right? It's not like this is some cryptic riddle.

If I say to you that "I'm going to stay at your house overnight," how many nights is it implied that I am staying for?

    (A: infinity lol)

Yes and no. I am one of those Tacoma owners who doesn't really "need" a full size truck all the time but maybe thinking to get a Tundra if the MPG is at least acceptable. Jury is still out on that one, at least for me. Seems they went the other way... for power not MPG... on the hybrid which for my use is not ideal.

So Toyota may get a few Tacoma owners into Tundras now but remember they are going to be updating the Tacoma soon. And people like me who are on hold because of the Tundra issues and who are not sure about living with the Tundra MPG may just wait and get a new gen Tacoma... unless Toyota botches that one too.

Waiting for an “engineer” to come in to do the trouble shooting and repair is not a dealer scheduling issue, it is lack of dealer training or skill and is not the customer’s fault. It’s no different than waiting for a part to arrive.

And yet the exact same singular "overnight" is used above as well:

"(1) under the Transportation Assistance Policy, if your vehicle (2) must be kept overnight for warranty-covered repairs for any of the following reasons:"

Clearly, this does not mean that you get a loaner for only one night, as sometimes repairs take longer than that. It is understood here to mean as long as it takes. So why is the meaning of "overnight" different in the listed exception at the bottom of the page? o_O
Yes, if only people who were denied loaners for whatever reason would tell their dealers these magic words, the dealers would all of a sudden throw their hands up, say "you got me", and do the right thing.

Sorry to interrupt the great legal debate, but just to point out that I have two friends with trucks waiting 3-4 weeks for parts to repair. One has a 2020 Ford with a transmission problem and was told wait would be 3-4 weeks for a part. The other is a 2021 Chevy with a problem he couldn't explain to me, but was told they would be lucky to get the parts in 4 weeks. It's not just Toyota and not just new models. This supply chain issue is real and if affects everyone. OP, I'm sorry you got stuck with your old vehicle for at least a month longer. And it really doesn't help you, but you are sure not alone. Tough times.

Hopefully these supply chain issues will begin to improve. On a positive note I just did a road trip from the mid-Atlantic to west Florida via Tenn and Alabama and saw many full new car carriers rolling, especially Hyundais that come out of the Montgomery AL plant. And saw TV ads for 1200 new jobs at a new Alabama "Toyota-Mazda Manufacturing" facility. Not sure what all they will be making there but the job listings included body welders and body welder supervisors. But while our system seems to be improving international supply chain issues are less transparent. And we all know that the auto mfg and parts business these days is really linked internationally in many ways.

Especially Hyundais that need to be parked outside because they can catch on fire. ... but then you risk getting stolen with a bump drive.

Probably why some states just wont insure them anymore.

Just an example because that is the plant I passed. I also saw plenty of others including my favorite, a truckload of shrink wrapped C8 Corvettes.

Slightly off topic, but I thought I would share how this procedure is going, since I am living it. Toyota actually wanted the master mechanic at my dealership to diagnose the issue before they came. In my case, it took Thursday and Friday to determine the cause, then they flew in the following Tuesday to see the issue first hand on the truck. They then wanted the defective part sent back to Texas. The real goat rope here is they could have brought the part with them and taken the defective part back. Nope, that was 3 weeks ago!....still waiting on part.

I understand them having a master tech have a look at it before they send out an engineer. Toyota won't just "assume" and send people out. The engineer probably never brought out the part because he didn't have the part available to him.

I can understand having a mechanic diagnose prior, no complaint there. It's the follow up to the repair they have dropped the ball with. I'm now in week 4 waiting on the part to ship....a part that I was told is, "simple as a hose clamp".

what gets me about my truck is they had a bunch of tundras that the guy who designed the limited wanted to look at. So he flew in to check on all these issues for himself.. ok… but if they knew they wouldn’t be changing the seal in my differential so they could send it in as is why didn’t they order the differential last week? This is the kind of thing that keeps me away from shops for things I can do myself. They are just so inefficient.

I thought Toyota was changing the whole diff for the pinion seal leak? If that's the case it must be more than just a bad seal install.

Lol, no kidding! I can understand the cause of the delay, but it doesn't help my patience on not being able to even bring home a brand new truck; its a real tease to wait months for the truck, test drive it, and then leave it at the dealer. First world problems for sure!

It would certainly bind my britches. I had an issue with my 2020 Tundra that was ongoing for over 8 months and I didn't have the truck for about two of those months. I called Toyota corporate to complain and discovered that they channel the calls to a call center. After finally getting to talk to someone they said they were going to send out an engineer to resolve the issue but I had to wait. I was done and sold the truck. Unfortunately in Canada we don't have a lemon law.

I suppose it depends on the state, but even though the laws exist, they are a joke. I have no intention of pursuing such for one issue, but I spoke with a lemon law lawyer in TN to see where I stand for future issues. He pretty much said, good luck...LOL. He says even though the law is worded pretty straight forward, it takes an extreme case of issues to win a claim. Part of our law is the vehicle is in the shop 30 days during the first year. I'm in the mid 20s already! Hopefully, I just get the truck in the next week or so and love it, done deal.

Dang. This is so frustrating to me, and it’s not even my truck. I don’t expect stuff like this from Toyota. I absolutely loathe waiting on the extremely slow wheels of the warranty process to turn.

I had a major issue with Brake failure on a 17 TRD Pro 4Runner. Took three weeks, but senior tech arrived with barrage of Computer diagnostic equipment. Was out over a month without the 4Runner and gave me a Highlander. It was hunting season......I did try to minimize the mud and keep it clean :). Seriously, the dealer took care of it and had the entire brake system replaced from disks to the integrated Master cylinder unit.

Yeah I get that. But not having deal with this is overwhelmingly the reason I chose the truck I did. I understand that a lot of it is probably out of Toyota's control, but it still sucks.
