maybe its like years ago when Chrysler busted all those UAW dudes drinking and smoking weed while they were building trucks, LOL.

come on toyota, this is so un toyota like.

I had the first tacoma built 1995.5 model and the first tundra 2000 model in late 1999, none of them were shitboxes like this

I would bet that Toyota is struggling to find qualified employees. I know that factory is relatively low paying, compared to many places in USA.

Maybe the local talent pool has given up. I see it everywhere in my area. Wouldn't surprise me if people who made 1/2-1/3 of my pay are like "fuck it, gubbament bennies are better than working"

This is a problem in every industry. People not involved with this or the supply chain crisis have no idea how seriously bad things are right now.

I don’t think Toyota assembles the axle. They receive it as a unit from wherever, Hino or some place.

seems like a bad seal or maybe not seated correctly. This axle is similar to what the 4.6 Tundra had so I wonder if the seal is the same.

Agreed if a robot did it I would think the scan for fitment would have rejected it. And when your job is to install such a simple thing all day you couldn’t screw it up.

Interesting. I had seriously considered the Tremor before deciding on the Tundra. First, I think the Tundra is a much better looking truck (we all have individual tastes.) Then I read the Tremor forums and all the issues on brand new vehicles scared me off (poor quality builds, oil leaks, water leaks, on and on) I guess people could look at this forum and think the same thing. Meanwhile the large percentage of us have zero problems and love the truck. Good luck with the Tremor.

I totally get the wait it out approach. Super smart imo. But why 2025? Feel like within a year this truck will be Toyota bullet proof. Seems to always take a year to get things sorted out. Early adopters should know this. Add in the fact that we are emerging from a world wide pandemic, this is a rough time to buy a BRAND new truck and expect it to be like the older version that was out for almost two decades.

Reading this thread and I do wish everyone that bought a 2022 Tundra gets their problems resolved on the truck.

On that note, I don't believe most people understand what the covid pandemic has done too manufacturing. Yes, most items are still being produced and with shortages across the whole spectrum parts are being substituted to keep up with the schedules. Looking from a manufacturing perspective in what's involved in my daily routine. I don't see an improvement, until things get back to a somewhat normal routine.

Toyota's part as well as other auto manufacturers we're seeing shoddy workmanship and problems with trucks themselves. I'm seeing that the workforce that Toyota has in place in the factories have been hit hard with Covid and people on the assembly lines have been replaced for people who are out sick. That being said, they probably have redundancy with other employees that can do the job, but it's not the same as an employee that has been doing it on regular basis. Hence the problems we're seeing now.

You also bought a new release truck and platform. We all know from previous generations they all have teething problems coming out of the gate. That means all the dealerships techs need to get trained and up to speed on the new truck. I'm sure it's just as much a learning curve to us as it's to them. The first-year additions are the guinea pigs for the new platform sadly to admit. Shame on the auto manufacturers to do that. Especially after dropping so much money on these trucks.

Reading other posts, people are so either for or against the new turbo six motor. I don't think Toyota will introduce an 8 cylinder for the trucks. We need to get over that notion, only for the mere fact the push is to get better fuel economy and emissions. There's a bunch of autos and trucks on the road sporting twin turbos already. I own a twin turbo in my car a BMW M3, the same was said for those cars when it transitioned from a eight cylinders to the twin turbo six. So, I welcome the twin turbo. Let the tuning begin!

When I mentioned that HD trucks have their major problems, it's true. I've owned Fords, Chevy, GMC and Dodge. Anywhere from a 1500-4500 weight class.
Ford- transmissions failing, major overhaul on braking systems. Diesel leaked like a sieve.

Chevy and GMC- brakes were junk on these trucks, bought a GMC 3500, paid over $80k for truck and it sat in a dealership because the truck wouldn't run right, eventually got lemoned. But lost time and money with it.

Dodge- an electrical nightmare, also lemoned out.

I did test drive a 2022 limited 4x4, I do love the tech on the truck and interior. I think Toyota did a great job with it. The front end of the truck is definitely being pulled off the Lexus platform. The truck seems smaller from the outside appearance, but I think it's all relative. The major drawback for me personally is the price tag on these trucks. They really went up. I think that's going to bite them in the ass. Seeing they are now centered with other high-end series of trucks and or SUVs. Because we all know the majority that buying these trucks are not your construction types, but more of family type.

I don’t think at this point the majority of trucks going out don’t have problems. I think the majority do. But there are some that don’t have any problems or at Least none that the owners have noticed. Or care about. My dealer has had 100% rate of trucks with some kind of problems. Small sample size though.

They really are two entirely different classes of vehicle. Not better or anything, just different. I've always liked the sporty feel of Toyota trucks and do miss that aspect. There is nothing remotely sporty about the handling of this HD truck. QC on my truck was absolutely not good. Several interior and door seal trim bits just not seated all the way. Found a big green rubber band in the engine compartment and my windshield washer hose had a connection that wasn't fully clicked together resulting in no fluid flow. And for $70k you'd think the outside mirrors would be auto dimming. Ford is also following the Toyota mantra of 'give em less and charge em more each year'. All that said it is a cool ass truck and if Ford would hire me and give me room/budget to fix a few things it would be a legit competitor to Toyota for overall quality of build and driving experience.

I saw this video before I bought my 2022 Tundra. Most of the items I don't care about but the one that I do care about is no bed step. I spent near 60k on a truck and It doesn't come with a bumper step or a retracting mechanical one. I understand higher trim levels may come with a mechanical one, but for now my only option is a third party step. I now have 1400 miles on my 2022 Tundra and no problems. Quite frankly I enjoy It much more than my 2021 Tacoma.

That's just wrong. I have a salesman trying hard to get a deposit from me. I mentioned this issue and he called me back later and said his folks are aware of the problem, it's a small batch of bad parts, they'll put me in a loaner if there are problems, blah blah blah.

I told him I'm in no hurry to buy and would be waiting until they get it together, and I have the opportunity to see and drive the trim I want before I consider making a deposit.

If they hear this enough maybe it will put pressure on Toyota to do right by these guys that are having problems

Couple quick questions for anyone who has first hand experience with the waste gate issue.

    1) did the fix from your specific dealership involve removing the body from the frame like we have all seen in the recent photos all over the interwebs? (Getting conflicting info, some say it is required for access to the turbos, others say you can easily access each turbo through the wheel well after removing just the wheels).

    2) if your specific case DID involve body off frame, how many squeaks, rattles, weird vibrations are experienced after the repair?

That's part of the new rust proofing on the new Tundra's. It continuously sprays oil to keep the underside coated and mitigate the risk of rust. Most dealers don't realize the trucks have this feature and will try to add in a "rust proofing" package as a dealer add on. Don't fall for it

multi quote feature not working so this is also for Nasty2sss. It’s called disappointment. I have owner the Tundra series longer then any one of you unless you kept the 2000 1st Gen like I have. It’s just disappointing with this new 22. I don’t want to get on a huge rant here but the value and reliability that we used to get is not here at least for now. I could list 10 things that I’m disappointed but I’m not going to. If there was two trucks new on the lot and one was the 1st Gen Limited TRD and the other a 22 Limited or PRO I would chose to buy the 1st Gen for the value, honesty and reliability. I could take a 1st Gen and modd it to match the price of the 22 and it would smoke the living shit out of it except for towing. People aren’t bitching, they aren’t hating they are just disappointed.

Update on my leaking rear differential. Toyota is making them send the entire rear differential back for inspection and replacing it with a new one.. no estimated shipping time.. this went from a little sucky to real sucky…

No one gets what they deserve. They get what they negotiate.
    Knowledge is power in negotiation.
Your dealer is obligated by Toyota to provide a loaner for you when your vehicle must be kept overnight for warranty repairs.

Sounds like you’re assuming that it would have turned out differently if you had been in his place. What negotiating power do you have when they simply refuse? You’ve got a truck that is flinging diff oil all over the place. Are you going to throw a fit in the dealership? You could call corporate about it and file a claim; but that ball doesn’t start rolling while you’re standing there in the dealership trying to negotiate. Seems that his dealer is one of the 99% that pull crap like this all the time. More evidence that the dealership model sucks, and not every awful thing that dealers do can be remedied by you bringing knowledgeable negotiation. If only he had said “but a guy on the Tundra forum said you HAVE to give me a loaner!”

What do you want to bet dealers who don’t provide loaners are hiding behind the “dealership scheduling conflicts” language in this 3rd point?

Dealer: It’s a “scheduling conflict” that the engineer from Texas, who can fix it in one day, isn’t here yet to do so. Therefore we don’t need to provide you a loaner vehicle.

What happens then? Do you still “get what you negotiate”?

to be fair…. I asked if they would be giving me a loaner while my truck is in the shop they said no but they could provide a rental. I then asked, that i have to pay for? They said yes.. I declined. truth is I have a back up Tacoma now and it really wasn’t a hill I was willing to die on. While I was talking to a salesman with a new tundra and comparing our issues with our new trucks and the other dealers issues with his he said, “you know your warranty should cover some vehicle rental days and if you like I could get that set up for you”. The way I use my truck this time of year on my days off I didn’t want to mess up a rental anyway.

I just hope they are quick about getting the new diff in. I’m glad they are taking the issue seriously.. it would be really cool if they gave me a yeti or something for My trouble.

I think it sucks that they didn’t provide a loaner, especially when most people are under the impression that they have to do so. It’s just common courtesy to me. But alas, we are talking about dealers here.

I took issue with the idea that it’s your fault you didn’t get a loaner because you didn’t bring “knowledgeable negotiation” to the table.

And regarding the rental, if you’re paying for it, then the dealer is not providing it for you. Hope the repair is quicker than expected and you get your new truck back soon.
