Maybe. I've had a Toyota truck now for almost 20 years and rarely used the service department other than oil change and balancing tires so I can't compare to others. The Toyota service has been good but doesn't compare to Lexus in my experience.

You would literally buy a placeholder new truck (at the worst time in human history to buy a truck) then buy another new truck if it has the kinks worked out? This seems completely insane to me. Help me understand.
This is about the best selling point for Toyota anyone could make. You've driven their stuff for 20 years and can't recall how the service dept handles anything beyond oil and tires. That's INCREDIBLE.

There has been 2-3 recalls on my Tundra so it's not been perfect. Headlights (wires crossed), fuel pump. They took care of those.

The Tacoma's we're pretty much bullet proof, especially my 2004 that I had for 12 years.

I just can't compare to other brands service since I haven't owned one for a long time.

Not sure this guys video holds any weight. Howdoes a person not know why a 2 Wheel Dr truck would weigh less then a four-wheel-drive truck. Also the entire video is based on one test drive of the new version compared to owning the previous generations

who said anything about a placeholder truck?

I wasn't saying I would buy a GMC or Ford then jump back into a tundra in 2023.

I was saying that IF I buy a truck this year it will likely be a GMC or Ford if this shit show tundra launch continues like this. If I decide to not buy a truck this year, then next year I am in the market, that would be more likely to then include the GMC, Ford, to 2023 Tundra

Cant understand why so many people are on a Tundra forum, that seem to hate the Tundra.I thought the forum was to share information with other owners. With every mass produced auto there are going to be problems with some.I had a chevy HD that was a piece of junk but I didn't join a chevy Silverado forum just to complain how bad it was.Nobody is forcing you to buy a tundra.Im new to this forum and it seems like there's a lot of negativity on here.I have a 22 on order and cant wait to get it.Ive driven Toyota for 20 years and the only time they were in for service was for oil change tires or brakes.

I get what your saying, but...

the last portion of your post above is exactly why people are upset and disappointed , the new tundra, which most people were stoked about, has been a shit show of a rollout from marketing to details, and now to the actual truck roll out that is showing WAY too many issues especially for toyota (see your statement above).

I sure hope yours is good, but if your one of the people who gets a bad turbo, leaking diff, bad radio, electrical problems, rattling rear window, rattling front door stereo, faulty gas gauge readings, bad door camera, bad door locks, bottoming out air suspension while empty, misaligned body panels, wind noise, bad A-pillar tape etc. ( thats just off the top of my head from this site only), you may feel like some of the others your referencing.

for me, I really want to test drive a new tundra and maybe buy one, but everything I am seeing here this thing is heading more towards shitbox than is it the toyota you talked about in your post above.

I really feel for these guys spending 50-60-70K and have all these problems. Some are to be expected, what we are seeing here is not cool.

I bought the first tundra out there in 1999 as a 2000 model and there wasn't even close to this much shit, I was on tudnra solutions back then (still am) and we had some brake TSBs and 4x4 actuator issues and that was about it for a first year model.

anyways, I dont hate toyota at all, thats all I own right now as a matter of fact, but damn they need to get their shit together, Im hoping by summer they have all of this worked out.

It is funny that I saw most of gen 3 haters are gen 2 owners who do not own gen 3. I had gen 1 and currently driving gen 2 but will trade my gen 2 in for gen 3 soon.

I understand everything you said , I do feel they will get their shit together real soon.I think a lot of the problem is this miserable pandemic.Parts shortage, help shortage, maybe quality. was compromised by Toyota using a vendor that wasn't quite up to snuff, but was able to produce the parts.I hope not, but they were under a lot of pressure to get this truck out to compete with the big 3

Well, I'm also new to the forum; I didn't come here to complain, but to see if I was an anomaly having trouble with a new vehicle that didn't even leave the lot before going into the service dept. I find those listing various problems as informative not only to myself but those who may be considering the new model. As a matter of fact, I'm about to update my original thread, not to further complain but to let others know what they may in in for when purchasing the 22 Tundra. I really want to love this truck, the couple miles I drove it seemed great.

Your the person I would like to hear about your experience,I'm mostly talking about the people that have the former generation and post how they will never get a 3rd generation. I for one hope Toyota isn't depending on its past to sell this truck, I truly feel they will work out all these problems ASAP only time will tell.Good luck with your new truck

Glad I just bought out the lease on my '19 Tacoma; had seriously considered moving to the Tundra. The guy nitpicked but honestly, the truck definitely falls short of what I expected for once-in-fifteen year remodel. The increased turning radius is particularly puzzling. WTF, Toyota? Is the premium fuel comment actually a thing?

As I stated previously, there were three reasons I bought the 2019 Tundra instead of the competition. Perceived reliability, resale and comparable price. It lagged the competition in every other catagory.

The 2022 appears to also be only catching up to or still lagging the competition in every catagory. If they falter in reliability, it just seems like there is no good reason to buy one.

I'm hoping they pull out of the nose dive or the problems are overhyped because it seems like a nice truck otherwise.

    perfectly said man!!

I really hope to be test driving a platinum tundra this summer and be able to buy one if I want with out all this bullshit going on. Then if I like it and it can fit in the garage , we go

blueprint platinum crewmax 4x4, non hybrid with power steps, air suspension and hud. Then we take everything from the trd sport and color match the parts, grill mustache , grill , rear tailgate, flares, then put some 18” black wheels and cooper at3 xlt like I have now .

See toyota, got my plan down and my cash ready, get your poop in a group.

Dropped my tundra off for leaking diff and cosmetic issues. They are having the guy that designed the limited fly in from Texas on Wednesday. My dealership has sold around 6, one had turbo failure, and the rest all have at least some cosmetic issue. In the end Toyota will be fixing it all but jeeze you would think they would have saved a little money with some more quality inspection before they went out the door.

That's where i went. I wouldn't own the new Tundra even without its problems. Just too damned ugly to sit in my driveway.

The 7.3 surely makes the 5.7 feel small. And it doesn't sound like a giant fan at startup. And SUPER easy DIY oil changes. Like ridiculously easy. Truck is far more solid feeling than i expected too. Not terribly thrilled with the 10spd though. Plenty of complaints on that subject with the newer SD trucks. It's just goofy at lower speeds.

I'd add the drivability of the truck. The truck drove and handled darn near sports car like. Transmission didn't do that clumsy interfering so many other brands have. Just a fun, extraordinarily competent truck to drive.

The reliability is real, not just perceived. You drive the most hassle-free, long-lived, reliable truck on the road. There’s too much data to really argue it at all. I think the 2022+ Tundras will stand out in front of their peers on this metric as far as the 2000-2021 Tundras do. It remains to be seen, though.
Agreed. Drives a lot smaller than it is.

Enjoy that F250 Tremor. Way too much truck for my needs, but I think they’re cool.

The outer lip of the seal is literally crooked in this picture.... I wonder if that's just sloppy workmanship?

I’m not sure, personally I have never replaced the pinion seal to understand what is normal. But something is either defective or not put in properly that much is for sure. I haven’t seen anyone else with this issue so I don’t think it’s a design flaw.

I'm thinking sloppy workmanship. I also highly doubt it's defective or a bad design.

Just makes me wonder, I would assume most process are automated or semi-automated. How could the seal come off the assembly line improperly installed?
