What I don't like is that I am reading and seeing internet accounts of the safety features like sensors having a problem with winter slush and grime being thrown up against the front. This is not acceptable and it makes me suspicious to the kind of quality real world testing Toyota did on this new vehicle.

My background is tech. I have a 2018 and it has the safety sense and the parking sonar. Crude, but it works and it is easily turned off. The new 2022 as I have said here before is like going from IPhone X to an IPhone XX. Its one thing when its a cell phone, and a totally other matter when you are with your family and driving this 6000 lb truck that can shut down on you on a busy highway, because its tech is sensing a problem somewhere. This is not acceptable. The tech should be good enough to not have allowed the vehicle to get going in the first place. For this reason alone, this product (vehicle) was not ready for launch. Not when stuff like this happens.

This is not good. I am sorry to hear. All the Electronics problems aside.
A mechanical problem like this on a basic mother pie item like a shaft in a rear diff.
I would have expected this from past Jeeps I have owned years ago (maybe they are better now) but not a Toyota and I have owned 4 Toyota trucks.

    @tundraiggy73

can you tell us how something like this can happen on the production line.
Is this a total human assembly process and a one off error / problem?

What's supposedly the best (latest) year for the RAM with the Cummins engine before all the insane diesel emissions crap took over in 2006/2007?

Ram didn't go full DEF until 2011 or 2012 I think. They still had transmission issues though. The Cummins is torquey as hell and they've never done anything but barely adequate transmission internals, so any heavy work or heavy foot action beats their guts out. Truly a bummer, because the 5.9 Cummins is a gem on its own, IMO.

2007.5 was the first 6.7l (with dpf)
2013 had the first DEF 6.7l

So I have experienced ice buildup on the front it is quite annoying with the warning you get on the dash clear it off and it comes right back as far as driving goes it hasn’t affected the ability to drive it at all and it even tells you which sensor needs checked or/cleaned. That being said I would like a way to disable it for sure

2006-2007.5 before the motor changeover to the 6.7L.

I can’t remember what of those two years was the first for a new can bus system.

So maybe Allison transmission swap? Supposedly aftermarket adapter plates exist for the 5.9 Cummins.

Went on a 600 round mile round trip this weekend. 1400 total on the new 22 now. Thankfully still just as strong as when I put the first mile on it. Let's hope this continues!

Best of luck getting your truck fixed. I'm following the next gen Tundra weighing my options if God forbid my 21 were to get totaled in the future. It's either a 3rd Gen Tundra, a Nissan like you had, or a Heavy Duty.

I can't stomach the big 3 half tons anymore.

    I don't get it. I really don't
One spends $60k - $80k on a vehicle whose safety systems are having problems with the "elements"
How is turning them off a solution? Its not even a band aid.
Why not bring this to Toyota's attention. Force them to fix it.
If anything have them come back and tell you its a design problem and they can't do anything with it in the 2022 version.
Needs an update in next version. This will help other future owners.

I agree, but it’s the same on my 19 RAV4- (didn’t buy new) seems this issue may be across the Toyota lineup.

My wife's subaru didn't have an issue when we lived in Alaksa, our rav4 prime didn't have any issues in flagstaff so no, it's not really an issue.

then Toyota should borrow from their cousin Subaru. The Design or Tech. Whatever is the problem.
my wifes 2020 outback will issue these warnings - the technology adjusts, fixes the problem in less than 30 seconds usually, and then will show her an all good message.

When your car looks like this - sensors are pretty much nfg! ( this isn’t the worst it’s been) That I get, it’s the annoying msg that continually populates your screen every time you clear it.

to go along with headlight washer nozzles a set of nozzles if needed to blast the sensors.
in comparison to the Rav4 the new Tundra is like a Large Mouth Bass with its mouth open rolling down the highway.
imagine the "stuff" that is going to enter from the front.

2019 :bananadance: Maybe it has less problems because the transmission coolers were crappy in previous models

Easily my biggest gripe with our ES350. Trying to get the leaves and debris out from behind that grill is a PITA. The grill design in the new Tundra looks to me like it won't be as prone to stuff getting behind it.

Hopefully Toyota will sort out the issues with the 2022. I'm just not sure what the advantage of Tundra over the other brands will be going forward. It used to be perceived reliability, resale, and price. What is the competitive advantage at this point?

this is where I am at in this moment, I see no upside to the 2022 tundra over the others this year.

to be frank, I think the others are probably better right now, Im pretty close to eliminating the 2022 tundra from consideration and go with the 2022 GMC, 2022 F-150 or wait until the 2023 tundra and see if they have their shit together yet or not.

right now, no way on the 2022 tundra.

For those of you that are considering the HD's of trucks, just to get away from the 1/2 tons. They have their major share of problems too.

Agree it's becoming a pick your poison. At least most of the HD gas engines are less complex, simpler designs. I had a 13' F150 with the 5.0 and zero drive train problems. Just the rest of the truck breaking down around the engine.

Nissan 5.6 - Looks good on paper but it does have DI - long term problem?
GM 6.6 - Same as Nissan
Ford 6.2 and 7.3 - Both Port injected, established track record vs. old school design. Both look good.
Ram 6.4 Hemi - Multi Cylinder Displacement. Had it on my 5.7 Hemi and it was annoying.

For every previous gen Tundra owner they lose, they are gaining at least 10 new Tacoma, Ridgeline, GMC, Nissan,Ford midsize pickup owners. My opinion.

    Also
Only previous gen Tundra owners will notice that the cab and bed is smaller. Toyota broke one of the Truck Commandments .....DO NOT go smaller on Truck Utility Usefulness "Size"....... Bigger sure....

What is the competitive advantage at this point?

Toyota dealer service. Response to fixing problems?
