At the cab end, there are some small gaps at the corners. DB includes weather stripping and tape to use as needed. They aren't too bad and might vary depending on your install. To me, the tailgate has worse gaps. I put a light inside the bed and closed everything up. There are significant gaps on both sides of the tailgate. I'm not looking at it right now, but from memory there are probably 1/4" gaps that extend from the top of the tailgate about 6" down. I think some additional weather stripping will address the worst of it, but was a little disappointed to see so much light coming through.

Edit: to be clear, this is a Toyota issue, not an issue with the cover.

Completely agree on the overkill. I didn't necessarily need something that heavy duty either, but I've had my eye on their products for years and finally pulled the trigger with my new tundra. I just like knowing that I can put the entire payload of the truck on top of the cover should I ever need to. Plus, I work in a not so great area, so the high quality materials and robust locks give extra peace of mind.

I have been spending waaayyyyyyyy too much time researching tonneau covers and my thumb was literally hovering over the “submit order” for the HD with cross bin 8 but decided to hold off to research a bit more lol.

min my research travels, one thing that I have heard of people doing is hanging (on the inside)/placing (on the cover) kettle balls or something substantial on those corners and then doing some locking adjustments internally to close the gap down. Some also did a bead of RTV to further close gaps.

Of course you will also need to put weather stripping on between the bed and tailgate as that is the biggest offender.
Hope this helps in some way.

Thank you so much for sharing, I now know what I'm up against and it won't deter my purchase

I kind of wanted the tool box version but the rep said they weren't going to be available on the '22 Tundra for a couple of months

Are you referring to the bak box? I wanted a cross bin from diamondback if I went that route, but the foldable box from bakflip (which as mentioned by someone else that bakflip and rev (that makes the Toyota branded tonneau) are the same company, so it should fit when they make one for the tundra. Looks pretty sweet.

How do you like the OEM tonneau cover so far? How much water get inside the bed with it? Is it easy to take off the whole set up and put back on?

There has been some small amounts of water ingress at the front where the bed design has that natural channel (they provide a putty type material to plug it with) and there’s a gap at the back corner where the cover meets the top corner of the tailgate that are the water ingress points.

Since my driveway is angled up I usually get some seeping through one of these during periods of heavy/consistent rains (which can be for days around here).

I don’t plan to take it off for use (never needed to with the Bakflip either on the last truck)…just fold up, load up and go as you get to use the full bed.

…but it would be some work (and annoying) trying to remove and re-attach it on a regular basis if that’s your thought process…45min to 2 hrs for each procedure depending on your skill level, tools and help available.

Really? To remove mine its two knobs by the cab on the small section that doesn’t fold and then lift off. Maybe 10 minutes if you are distracted. Also no tools to remove mine. Oh forgot pop drain tubes off.

Oh ok…I stand corrected then (never tried so thanks for confirming/answering).

Somehow I was thinking about removing the entire thing…drains, reattach rails and all so totally misunderstood

…what you explained makes sense though as that’s all one would need to do.

Yes but that being said it is not something that I personally am going to be removing and installing on a regular basis. One improvement I would like to see is a way to secure the cover not all the way open. Like if I wanted to just flip the rear section up and drive like that. Not sure what would be functional and aesthetically pleasing.

How's your cover when traveling? Is it holding tight or flapping from the wind? I'm torn between soft and hard cover. Don't really store valuables back there but had a soft cover on a Tacoma years ago and the movement from the wind always bothered me. I get it ther's going to be some movement but curious about your take on it.

Anyone else running a soft rollup on a short bed? Looking for thoughts on how it performs (flapping or noise). Brand and model #'s appreciated.

Which of the folding covers still allows the camera view of the bed when fully folded open? As I understand it, the OEM one does... any others?

i just called the local dealer. He said it should be a few weeks (groan…I’m sure that means months) until they are in. The good news is the retrax website now lists 2022 tundra.

I just ordered an OEM tonneau cover through Bam Whole Sale and they ended up canceling the order. They said that it is due to the cover being backorder and they don't know when they will get anymore. With that being said, do any body know who I can successfully order it through?

Installed one of these last week. Seems nicer then my old tonnopro. Getting a decent amount of water in the front by the cab that I’ll have to figure out .

I'm running a Truxedo Truxsport soft rollup - after installation, water at front of bed behind cab. Went to Lowe's and purchased a roll of rubber weatherstripping and attached it (stickon) to top of bed behind cab.....no more water.

Believe that is the key as just the weatherstripping attached to the top is not sufficient. Very pleased with the product. 10% off till Tuesday makes it an even better deal!

Here is the Extang Exceed. So far, I really like it. I'm overly particular about my covers and water getting in, I know some is expected, but I do my best to mitigate all of it. With a little caulk, the bed stays 100% dry going through a commercial car wash.

The biggest pros are the one piece cover over the metal panels eliminates any possibility of seams leaking and the unique release on the first panel is a turn handle that isn't exposed to access from the tailgate, eliminating the ease of coat hanger access.

The biggest con is it covers the rear camera when folded all the way up. If I road like this a lot, it could have been a deal breaker. But, as it stands right now, water resistance is a bigger concern.

It's metal/aluminum panels same as backflip etc but has their "proprietary" cover over all the panels, eliminating the seams from view and water exposure. The cover can support 500lbs evenly distributed .....so they say.

Not that it matters, but not seeing the seams kinda gives it a sleak look which sold me when I saw it, lol.
