It’s crazy how much more space (both depth and length) the retrax takes up compared to the roll n lock. I might switch back.

For reference, the roll n lock is on a 21 pro and the Retrax is on a 22 pro.

For anyone who has installed the BAK X4S, were you able to do the install without having to modify anything due to the OEM bed extender? I had a BAK X4S on my Ram, but I had to remove the OEM bed extender to install the X4S. Before I buy the X4S, I want to make sure I won't lose the use of the bed extender. I've reached out to BAK for an answer, but they've gone radio silent.

I had ordered my 2023 tundra 1794 with the oem bed cover. Apparently there was a recall so it didn't come with it, so now I'm looking into purchasing a bed cover outright.

I like the price tag of the rough country, but I don't like that it only goes 2/3 of the way and not all the way up. Basically I think I've narrowed down to getting a backflip.

There are several bakflips. Some have the dual action tailgate and some don't. It seems like the dual action tailgate ones do not overlap the tailgate much whereas the non dual action overlap a lot.

But my question is this. Does anyone have experience with both options and the seal for water at the tailgate? Do they perform the same or is one less sealed than the other?

Ordered mine 4 days ago, still no tracking #. With their Constant emails every day asking me to order, order order... even after I ordered. I'm now trying to cancel thinking it's not worth the $40-$50 save over AutoAnything which I was going to go with initially. Emailed them and called to cancel order said BakFlip will ship 3/27 or so but they'll try to cancel once confirmed then they'll forward it to their Finance department to process my refund. The whole process just feels very unprofessional and dare I say Shady.... hmm
Atleast good to hear @Point Man 's transaction went fine.

Update with my Bakflip MX4. Replacement #3 sucked… manufacturer has been great. Sending me replacements but after #4, come on. Bakflip.com, just let me send the thing back and give me a refund. Of course bakflip.com (aka realtruck) spoke to manufacturer and they said they addressed the warranty. Yeah… 4 covers in and I’m unhappy but no love.

@ziznack - I wouldn’t. I have read others that have had excellent luck with it. Me, not so much. I love the low profile and trifold but the construction needs a little love to prevent the water from getting inside the panels.

    Extang Solid Fold ALX
    https://realtruck.com/p/extang-solid-fold-alx-tonneau-cover/

Ordered through Real Truck and the group buy offer.

I've owned BAK products before and the last Revolver was such a giant piece of garbage that I new I wanted something else. I had a version of the Extang on a Honda Ridgeline that was excellent and I was pleased to find the updated ALX that includes a new latch system that allows you to open the cover without detaching latches on both sides.

I ordered this cover on Tuesday and had the cover delivered today! Talk about fast.

    Observations

There is an area of the Tundra bed that I'll need to inject with some sort of sealant because its a gap where water will come through. I've attached the photo pointing to the location.

The cover installs its latches into the bedrail system, which is fairly easy, but you'll have less flexibility from the bedrail system now.

The latch adjustment will take some patience b/c you'll want it to latch tightly to reduce chances of leaks, but you'll want to avoid having to slam the cover.

You're correct, only the first two panels fold up. The last panel cannot be. That said, it would be a few minute effort to remove the panels completely if needed. Over the years I've owned five trucks and I've not needed full bed utilization all that much. I tow trailers way more than I move loads in the bed. That's just me though, so someone elses milage may vary. This cover will work great for my needs.

So I decided to go with the Undercover Ultraflex. One down-side to this cover vs. the MX4 is that the Ultraflex rails cover up the Toyota rails to some degree and thus you can't get the standard Toyota plastic cleats on the rail. I did mount some of the D-ring tie downs that I used on the bed mounts. I have a posting in the Accessories thread that shows these in the bed mount bolts. I mounted these using the T-nuts that I also bought on Amazon. When I was looking at the different covers I wasn't able to find much in terms of details on the brackets so I'll post some close-ups of the brackets and some of the other install details. Let me know if you need any other info.

    Toyota Rail Bracket Close-up:
    Clamp on Rail and Gromet.jpg

    T-nuts and D-rings:
    T_nuts and Tie Downs.jpg

Angle of Ratchet Strap: (You can go up about 45 degrees before you hit the Undercover rail. ~26 to 27" at the wheel well).
    Strap Angle.jpg

Hole for Drain Tube: (The drain tube is pretty big ~5/8" in OD. I had to drill out the two corner holes to about 3/4" to make it fit.)
    Hose Mount.jpg

    Rails with D-rings:
    P_side.jpg

    Final Photo:
    IMG_20230326_091324664.jpg

Overall it went pretty well. The cover does seem to be very heavy duty. Let me know if you have any questions.

Looking for the deck rails. Recently obtained a 2023 SR crewmax. And it doesn’t come with the rails to secure the tonneau cover. I only have one side towards the driver side of the bed. Anyone on here selling a set or know where I glcan find one. Stupidest configuration with these SRs

is there any difference in these rails from the 2021 model of tundra? If I’m going to be cutting them, and it’s the same diameter I don’t see why it’s not doable with the ones from 2021 model year. They are way cheaper

I know the rails on my 2023 appear to be identical to the ones from my 2013, but I can't say for certain.

Good to hear. I’ll compare my one rail that they included for the front of the bed, with my buddies 2018 rails and if they are the same I’m buying the previous gen model

My Bakflip MX4 leaks on the regular. I thought it was just the tailgate but today I saw it dripping from the middle of the cover. I don't think it's coming straight through. Probably from the sides.
Has anyone with the MX4 had luck sealing this cover?

I just put mine on on Saturday and haven't had rain yet. I'll let you know lol. Looking at the tailgate area, I can't see how water would not be able to get in as there are gaps. I had an extang solid fold on my 2013, it did good but some water always got in. I am tempted to drill an extra two holes at the back. Two for the drain tubes and two for water that makes it in.

@Maharisc I believe you have the Truxedo Sentry CT tonneau cover, correct? If so would you be willing to provide the minimum bed height with the tonneau closed? Want to make sure I have enough height for some of my gear. Thank you

took 6 days to ship from my order date. From there about 5 days to delivery, everything intact installed yesterday pretty happy with it besides the price but they were cheapest of all companies. Real truck with their price match policy wouldn't touch their price

Are you looking to get a visual, roughly how much space the canister takes up? I have the Retrax cover with shortbed Limited.

Here is a pic with cover on and a rubber mat in. Hope this helps. I don't have this truck as of Jan 25, traded for current 23 with OEM. Waiting to see what comes of the recall then decide to keep or go back to Truxedo. No issues with cover in extreme cold temps here in Montana.

I feel like maybe bakflip sent me the wrong rails? Does anyone else's MX4 on the newer tundras fit like this? The cap by the tailgate looked right, but the cap by the cab seems off.
