I hadn't seen those Peragons before. Interesting. They also claim to do custom colors which would be cool. Imagine a Lunar Rock tonneau cover. :) But, unfortunately, they don't seem to be able to lock in any intermediate positions. At least not in the videos I watched. That is one of the real benefits of the canister type.

Anybody got pics of the canister type in their 5'7 bed?

I had the BAK X2 on my 08 for many years, great cover! I now have the Bak X4S on the ‘23 and it is even better than the previous X2. I like it doesnt block the window when rolled up, but note that it does take some room if your loading anything above the bed rails. In my case dirt bikes. I use a cut piece of pallet wood in between the front wheel and the front of the bed to give me clearance. It’s worked for me for many years. Im designing and building something for the bikes that more of a rack but going to take some time to get that done. You can kind of see how it works in this picture.

Added a couple more pictures, had to do the same thing on my 08 6.5 bed and BAK X2 but it never failed.

@Paul Moll - Sorry for the late response. Just barely seeing your question... I put the butyl in the front corners. I can snap pics on where. However today it is raining again and water is dripping from the joints of the panels. I think water is getting under it from the bed sides and running along the rubber joints.... I think. I hope the panels aren't filling with water again. I will inspect further when I am able.

Installed my Bak XS4 today before the snow- had a bakflip mx4 on the last tundra and decided to go for something different since I didn’t like how it would cover the read window. I’m a fan so far!

If you live in an area with snow and ice don’t get a retractable cover.

I have a nearly brand new Retrax Pro MX for short bed going up for sale soon. Perfect condition, just not the right application for long winter months.

Have you tried using, open-closing during cold
    snowy ice unideal conditions?

Not yet, only took the truck out of the garage once yesterday afternoon after the snow was pretty much done. I’ll give it a shot and report on how it works later this week though as it sounds like winter isn’t done with us yet here in the northeast…

How’s it working out - have you rolled up/down during winter months?

I park out side, wife gets the garage. I need a cover the will work in the winter months allowing easy access to full bed.

Not current model but a few years ago had a Retrax in Canada for 5 years, snow from nov to April, loved it. Couple times a year it would freeze up and I’d hit it with my fist and it was fine. I’ll clarify the weather by saying from nov to March it never got above freezing, perhaps in climates that straddle the melt/freeze line it would be an issue . Mine worked great.

We had freezing rain on Monday and it was a bit stiff when I tried rolling it up. I didn't force it too much so I don't know what it can tolerate. I will play around with it a little more and let you know.

I went with the Rough Country tri-fold bed cover. Decent enough. It’s supposed to be the same maker as the oem Toyota cover, minus the shocks to hold up the cover.

That looks pretty good. I like the clamps they use in the front with the hold down star nuts. Looks like a sturdier setup than the cheesy 1/8" sheet metal on the Toyotas (and BAKs). Only thing I am not sure about is whether this lets you retain the factory rails or not. They don't have a vehicle specific instruction set, that might show that detail, on the website. It says that it fits trucks with and without the rails but it isn't clear if the clamps have bolt holes for the rails, or that the rails just stay off.

I think you really need to check out Truxedo Sentry CT roll up. I had it on my previous 2 trucks. Works great in the winter of Montana as well. The BAK X4 or X4S have known issues with cold/frosty morning of not wanting to roll up - theres a YT video on that.

Looks good, similar to BAK. You mentioned you have had for the past 2 trucks, what did you go with for your current truck?

It came with the OEM, haven't changed it out yet, only had it for about 5 weeks now. Waiting to see what happens with the recall on it.

Question for the masses: I had a retrax and it broke so I went with an Amazon roll top and honestly it's been great. It keeps everything dry in the event it rains. My issue now is mounting my MTB fork mounts on the deck rails. They are not high enough to allow my tailgate to close when my bike (XL/S5) is in there. Has anyone ever mounted a fork mount (Kuat Dirtbag etc...) on the tailgate to get height so an XL bike would fit? For some reason I am hesitant to mount onto the tailgate vs inside the truck bed.

I went for a LOMAX Hard Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover.

Looks solid and hopefully lasts a bunch of years!
    (fingers crossed)

The Truxedo Sentry CT I had, drove 150miles in -12F weather to an airport, it worked great, drove back and it still worked great. Unlike this X2 which the X4S is made from same material ( not something one should purchase in the north). I know the video is a little dated, but the material used hasn't changed.

If you park outside in the sun and live in the south, I'd avoid the Bak rollup covers like the X4S. I've had a few of them. They vinyl failed after a year. My first one (X2) fell apart completely.

Also check out Pace Edwards Utra Groove. They make quality covers and the UG has tracks that accept Thule, Yakima, etc. racks.

Can the rough country be fully opened if needed? All I can see is the first 2 folds open leaving 1/3 of your bed always covered.
