I had to adjust mine and moved it a little bit forward so the tailgate release would work. The gasket at the edge of the cover is too grippy.

You guys really need to try applying some silicone to the seal. I've had 4 tonneaus on my 22 so far and all of them stuck the tailgate closed. I'd hear it unlock but not move. One spray of silicone across the rubber seal, problem solved with all of them.

I have the Truxedo Sentry CT and the tailgate never sticks. No silicone either. It's a hard roll-up and works well in the winter of Montana too... Had this on my 2020 Taco as well with no issues.

Looks great. Can you provide pics and detail on the Thule XSporter Pro install?

**Copy/paste from a convo I had with someone here not long ago, as I was asked the same thing:

So the rack system is a modified XSporter from Thule (in black; I got mine off Craigslist).
    Example:
    https://www.thule.com/en-us/roof-rack/truck-and-van-racks/thule-xsporter-pro-_-500xt

I didn't use the mounting bases at all, and I cut the vertical bars to fit my need (I did this a while back, when I had my 2017 with a soft roll-up cover, so that I could still roll it up under the rack-worked well).
The shortened vertical bars have been threaded top and bottom, to mount the cross bars on top, and HomeDepot brackets on the bottom. I don't have a part number of the HomeDepot bracket for you however (can't easily find n on their web site), but those were found in lumber section and are just the right shape, size and finish to then mount underneath to the truck bed's rail system (inside the bed). Drilled a couple of holes in them and bolted it all up.
Since my 2022 has a hard cover I had to notch the rails of it for the brackets.
See pics below for a visual on how it's all done.

I run 2 set ups (bought a 2nd set of XSporter cross bars): summer set with 4x Thule bike racks, and winter cross bars with ski racks on them (currently installed).
    Hope this helps.

Wow, nice work! Thanks for all the detail. It looks like you got the system configured exactly how you want it.

It took me a few times to read through the post to understand that you notched the tonneau's base so it sits flat on top of each of the home depot brackets.

Now I have to find bed racks that sit on it's own rail system and slide front-and-back. I'll probably copy your workaround for bolting the rack's rails to the truck's rails. I don't know if I explained this well.

My Retrax is frozen and won't slide open. I gave them a call and they recommended banging along the tracks to loosen any ice...well that didn't work. Any suggestions?

Have you tried using some liquid de-icer? I used to spray that on my bed toolbox in the winter so I could get it open during ice storms. Worked like a charm. Just spray it on everything that moves like you would WD-40. Keep a can of it in the truck.

    Lots of stuff!
Perhaps some window washing fluid that is good for cold weather. I use that on doors and window rubber to cut ice. I put it in a spray bottle and go to town.

I don't know how that would work because the tracks are in the truck.

Can you open the tailgate? If so, perhaps you could put a small space heater in the box, close the tailgate and let the heat do its thing. Just be careful not to melt the box liner.

It's pretty much a C channel. I'd think if you sprayed the de-icer into the tracks from the top it would make it's way in.

I installed the Bak Rev4. Seems to be a good fit so far. Had two pieces of weatherstripping, I saw where the thick one went (bulkhead). No idea where the thin strip goes? They have a good on-line video if anyone else tackles the job themselves. Word of warning if you have cargo rails, the metric T-head strips easy if you are not careful. I had one strip and it was PIA to get out.

Hoping for some insight from anyone with the OEM tri-fold or Bakflip MX4...if you get a chance in the next couple days, any chance you could measure the height from the bed itself to the underside of the opening with the tonneau closed? My son has a wheelchair that fits with my Truxedo Pro X15 to place on it's side and slide under the tonneau, but considering switching to a hard cover and want to make sure I don't have a height issue switching.

    Thanks!

I have the mx4 - it's 20 1/8" to the bottom of the cover. the release latches, rubber bumpers and whatnot mounted to the bottom take up another inch.

I have the BAK REV 4. There is a solid 20” under the cover from the top of the c channel. I like that I can open and close the tailgate with the cover in a fixed position. I can also close the cover with the tailgate in any position as well.

@Maharisc, do you have any problems with the Truxedo Sentry CT freezing up during the winter preventing it from rolling up? I’ve read that’s a problem with the BAK revolver covers.

Also, is it difficult to clean this cover? I wonder because it’s a woven top not solid vinyl.

I haven't had any issues opening it, even in the cold, unlike those with the X4S have (YouTube video). As for Cleaning, take it to the car wash - pressure was, no leaking in the box even though it is like canvas top. Do be aware of scratches, they are noticeable just like on vinyl. Keep in mind, this is manufactured in Yankton, South Dakota and they get very harsh winters there, so I'll assume they have done some test during extreme weather.

Apologies if this has been answered, I can’t find an answer! For those with the OEM trifold, is there a lock so that belongings can be secured?

Installed MX4 the other day. Noticed that where the BakFlip rail ends at the rear it's not quite long enough, been discussed on this thread I think. There is maybe a half inch gap that of course will let water in. So I called BakFlip today and asked them about this. They of course were "unaware" of this problem. But...after me mentioning that this is a problem twice, they offered to send me a couple of rubber / foam pieces that they ship with the Tacoma cover for just this purpose. I'll take pictures with and without when I get those. Hope this helps.

When the tailgate is closed and locked the cover can’t be opened. There is no external handle or lock.

Interesting how this looks very similar (if not identical) to the Toyota trifold tonneau.

What bed rack system works well with the bakflip mx4?

Happy with my set up. Too cold to put bedrug mat Velcro adhesive down though. Have to wait for a warmer day.

    None, yet
From what I've seen... You can't open it unless you drop the tailgate. The tailgate has a lock so your tonneau should be secured if the gate doesn't drop.
    Am I missing something?

My Retrax is working without any issues and the tailgate drops with both the FOB and tail light release. Their customer support has been top notch.

    Thought I'd pass this along.
