Has anyone had experience with the Renegade cover? I was looking at purchasing the DiamondBack HD but the Renegade seems to solve some issues I was foreseeing with the DiamondBack, namely:
    • The renegade has an adjustable and removable headache rack so that I can customize its placement for the appropriate materials and remove it when not in use.
    • It has a top rail that allows for adjustable and multiple d ring placements for tie downs and doesn’t have the permanent boat cleats installed.
    • Acts like a trifold so that you can use most of your bed rather than have that middle pillar get in the way
    • For me this is a benefit, but the renegade doesn’t have outside locks (it locks from the inside). This removes the ability for someone to pick the lock open and also creates a more flat surface rather than having large lock bodies protrude from the top in case I’m hauling flat thins like plywood.
I like the tool box made by diamond box as you have have more storage but still slide things under it. This wouldn’t work with the renegade as the trifold stacks up where the box would be so give and take I guess.

Both are expensive but I carry tools and such in the back so I’m looking for a bit more protection and with me having tools in the bed, having a platform where I can load significant weight on top is a huge benefit. The problem is that I can’t seem to find many reviews or any videos outside of the ones put out by renegade. The lead time is also months (5-6 months) rather than a few weeks like with diamondback. Any thoughts?

Sparks quoted me $267.00 bucks for shipping, then a 25% Discount which still comes to $200.00 to ship that cover total price for cover $1183! Are those covers that heavy?

They are fairly heavy and oversize, but that still sounds high. I got my retract cover from AutoAnything and the shipping was free.

I though so also but from what I’ve found just doing a basic Google search no one has these covers!

I’m in the same situation as you. I’ve looked at all the information and reviews available and both appear to be excellent covers. I’m leaning towards the Renegade for a couple of reasons: lower profile, internal locking mechanism and more user-friendly for install of a bike rack. As you’ve noted, the 5-6 month lead time is problematic. It also fits square so it doesn’t perfectly align with the contour of the truck box. Once I decide whether I’m going with a 5.5’ or 6.5’ box, I’ll reach out to Renegade and check the status of their lead time and go from there.

I didn’t have a choice but to buy and have shipped cross country as my local dealers couldn’t get it.

I bought a bunch of other stuff however (bedmat and skid plate included ) which made the shipping much more tolerable at $325+ after a discount

100% - the ability to add racks to the top without making permanent holes is huge. You can have bikes, a rack, you can have tie downs paired with removable and headache racks that can change width, and they even make studs that you can semi-permanently attach something like a tool chest or whatever to the top. They are both super expensive but the flexibility and internal locking make it a sweeter deal for me.

I actually reached out to them yesterday night and got a reply early this morning. They said their current lead time is 25 weeks and that they are doing all they cant to trim that down. I also asked them about a removable tool box like Diamondback has (crossbin 8 and 13) and they said that although they didn't have something like that, that they would be willing to work with me a design something that would work with the cover. That's pretty awesome in my books. Shipping is very pricey - I'm in Canada and they said that they don't ship up here, so the closest location would be Buffalo NY. Shipping there is between 375-450 USD. With a 25 week timeline and the price for shipping, I might just pack up the family and drive to Utah to pick it up. They mentioned that if I were to do that, they would offer free installation at the shop.

I'm thinking that I might pull the trigger on it, but I am still nervous about the lack of info and real-world tests.

That’s great they’re willing to work with you to design a tool box, which is also of interest to me. Although Winnipeg to West Bountiful, Utah is “only” 2029 km, it would be more cost effective to have it shipped to the border, which is 75 minutes from home. That said, a road trip and free install would be a great experience. I’d appreciate being kept in the loop if you decide to pull the trigger and I’ll do the same. I’m thinking there has to be other reviews out there so I’ll keep looking.

Yeah, it’s a 3000km drive for me one way so that will be a hard sell for my wife and family lol. There’s also the fact that I would have to do that trip without a cover plus all the kids stuff and gear, so that might be a challenge. They said that they would be willing to ship it to any mechanic in the US and then you could install it yourself or have them install it. Thinking more about it, might just ship it to the border, take a buddy and spend the night installing the cover in the parking lot lol.

Changed my mind about the Vanguard off road cover via AutoAnything. It was supposed to ship last week, then I got an email yesterday saying ship date is changed to March. Cancelled that. I see Undercover finally has theirs available but they increased the price of the flex. Only $75 less than what I was quoted via Toyota for theirs. Therefore, I bought the Toyota one and it will be in today!

Just got my Toyota tonneau cover and installed it today.. not impressed. Going back to the dealer to make sure they gave me the right one or it wasn't a factory screw up. It is 1.5" too short. I can set it up for either have a 1.5" gap at the tail gate or at the cab side. End result, water ingress big time. It can be addressed by fabricating something to fill the gap that attaches to the cab side cargo rail but for the money paid for this thing, that shouldn't be.

That doesn't seem right especially for a Toyota. I thought I have seen some issue with previous models being that much shorter on the 22'. I have to believe its the wrong cover for your truck.

I bet they installed the wrong model year. I can only repeat what I've been told, but several dealers in my state have said Toyota is factory installing covers on some trucks but other than that, OEM covers won't be available until March or April at the soonest, same as most other parts. I tried to order one and they can't even put an order in yet.

    How did you make out?

Dealer hasn't gotten back to me for mine yet.

I measured the truck and the tonneau and here is what I have:

Tonneau cover without the drip gasket is 65" long. Truck bed opening is approx. 66 1/4". Another 1 1/2" would put the drop edge over the bed rail by the back window. If yours works, can you measure the length of your tonneau and include the part #?

My part # on the box shows PT954-34220-02

So I put mine on last night and it's absolutely perfect! I have the short bed and that's what they got me thankfully. I will check the part number and all that when I get back home.

Your dealers are all repeating the same piece of incorrect information. I had a couple of dealers say the same thing until I contacted one dealer, who wasn't lazy, and they placed the order via phone with the regional distro center. It came in 3 days later and I installed it that weekend. My primary dealer missed out on a $1000 parts order because of it.

Dealers can order it. If they're "system" says they can't...ask them to place the parts order via phone. Sometimes folks need to think beyond what the computer screen tells them. If they want the sale, they'll gladly do it. If they don't, call the next dealer who wants money.

As a last ditch effort, you can order the bed cover via parts.toyota.com. You have to know the p/n for the cover you want. Just select the nearest dealership that participates in Toyota's online parts platform for pickup. Not every dealer participates in that platform because it requires the purchase of a hefty license, so I hope there is one local to you. I was prepared to drive 3 hours away to the nearest participating dealer if I couldn't find a local dealer to order it.

    Hope that helps.

You are correct on both points…but this is how it plays out.

I went to Parts.Toyota site, put in the part number and got ~10 dealers here in WA and Oregon that takes part…However as I quickly called all of them to verify I was each told “no…your part number is good but the system isn’t allowing me to order it”

From what my parts guy said their system doesn’t link to SE Toyota’s…and I think since they aren’t going to pick up the phone to call (he didn’t say that last part) then we get told “no can do”

so I ordered from Sparks and got mine yesterday.
Hopefully it all lines up but the short bed PN about seems to be the correct one.

What are you doing with the drain tubes/ how did you route them? These composite beds just have small holes in the back for water to drain. No shot you can fit a tube down there unless you drill.

Part number on the one I have that doesn't fit correctly is PT954-34220-02. Label on the underside of the cover itself matches the box BUT it doesn't fit. 1.5" too short. Bed opening is 66 1/4". Cover I have is 65" long without the drip edge/gasket on the cab side. Dealer is looking into it and hasn't gotten back to me yet. They have more in stock and I asked them to unbox and measure the cover to see if it is a one-of manufacturing error or if the lot is the same.

I just ordered the Retrax ProMX cover from an online dealer, local dealers were of no help. They clarified with Retrax that as of right now the lead delivery time is 4-5 weeks for the cover. I pick up my new 22 Tundra 1794 w/TRD Blueprint " March 1 " hopefully the cover and Romik running boards come in around March 20th so I can install on the truck and cart the family down to Disney World starting the following weekend. If not, we head down in the wife's SUV
Best laid plans and all-LOL !!!
