I purchased my RetraxONE XR from them... legit company, less than 2 weeks from order to delivery.

Does anyone have experience using the Retrax Pro XR in the winter? I'm in Manitoba and I'm wondering if there are there any issues with ice freezing in the slats and side rails causing issues with retracting the cover. Thanks.

This is how my drains ended up... there MAY be a slight incline compared to the bottom of the cannister, but it's very close to being straight across. If I silicone the down tube to the 90, I could shove it down another 1/2 inch. I may end up running straight to the front of the corner channel... we'll see.

I don’t have any experience since this is my first one but they are manufactured in North Dakota…pretty sure they designed for extreme weather. I am pretty confident there will be no issues.

Those with a Bakflip MX4 or F1 (or even OEM I believe is the same), can you use the bed camera when folded up against the cab? I just installed the F1 this week and can pretty much just see the top folded edge of the cover right at the camera, maybe the top of the tailgate. Is this normal or have I used the wrong foam pads or have a install error with where I secured the cover.

i am from ND and i've never heard of them personally. i've tended to go with access rollup covers (https://www.accesscover.com/) since the early 2010's. they are based out of jamestown, nd. they started as a agri business cover company (farm equipment covers) and moved into personal trucks later.

if we go the backway to fargo to see the daughter/grandons, we pass by the headquarters building but usually we just take the i-94 from bismarck to fargo.

otherwise we take the country roads to jamestown then continue on i-94 to fargo. crap shoot really since the backroads are slower mph wise compared to doing 75 on i-94, in the end its the same time to distance.

MX4- I can only see the top of the cover when it’s up against the rear of the cab. Hopefully someone with a 3d printer can come up with something to relocate the camera higher. I’ve seen on Etsy a bracket for 2nd gen for the tailgate camera. Something similar that sits atop the center light might do the trick.

Installed Gator Srx today - no wet/storm test yet but seems like a really solid cover for <$300… reason I bought it was to have something while I hold out for a topper, but this thing is actually really nice!

This has convinced me to skip a hard/tri-fold cover for now. I just can't justify $1000 when there are so many other accessories or mods to buy.

Stupid question though, as it's not spelled out on the website but does this cover essentially "lock" when the tailgate is locked and closed?

Obviously anyone with a knife can easily enter a soft cover but does it prevent easy opening?

Well, had the Bakflip F1 out in it's first rainy drive today. To say disappointed is an understatement! Almost my entire bed is wet. I fully understand tonneau covers aren't designed to be water tight, but is this normal for the Bakflip brand or OEM? This is from being in on and off moderate rainfall for about 4 hours.

I contacted Bakflip and sent photos. Upon closer examination, the entire seam on the cab end leaks (the seam between the short fixed panel and 2nd panel in) and water is dripping from most of the plastic cable pull brackets, not sure exactly where it's coming in. I can only assume this is not normal :annoyed:

Yes, there’s a little trigger switch on the driver side to release the cover that you can only access with the tailgate down. So far I really like it, and can definitely say I’m impressed with the value. For anyone installing, I would clamp the rails as high as possible - otherwise you can’t get the cover to latch with the tailgate up. Other than that, instructions are pretty clear.

Awesome, thank you! I think I'll order that one tonight. Any thoughts on how weather proof it is?

I would definitely move those drain tubes. Mold will grow where the water sits and eventually clog the tube. The drain tubes need to go as straight down as possible. I just made the 2 holes on the floor near the corners 9/16 or an inch and they fit nice and snug. You can get to those holes pretty easily from under the truck so you can drill them out.

No weather to speak of yet, and no time for a car wash… but, reason I got the Gator was there’s a bunch of YouTube videos with minimal leakage.

Been getting storms here non-stop here in NC and so far (knocks on wood) the weather-Tech trifold has held up great w no leaks at all. Happy with the look of it and install was relatively easy.

Been reading through all these threads as I was looking for something to add to my TRD Sport. I'm coming from a Taco where I had an ARE MX mounted for the room but this round I went with a Diamondback HD. Hopefully it'll be here by end of this week but who knows what sort of vacation days they plan on taking.

For those who wonder between MX4 or Retrax, I can tell you I've had both. Both work well, overall I prefer the MX4, mainly because the Retrax takes up more cargo space. Living in NH, I experience a lot of snow. Not much this winter since I got my truck in March, but they both can easily handle the weight of snow. The Retrax did have issues at times with freezing up at times, but not something that really bothered me. You have to clear your truck off anyway. A couple whacks with the gloved fist would usually free it up. The canister the Retrax rolls into got pretty banged up with skis being tossed in the back. Overall, I feel that the MX4 is a little higher quality. My lock on the retrax used a different key (which I never used) and also lost the ability to lock down midway.

Same here, the weathertech cover has done great, no leaks for me so far. Pleasantly surprised.

Just had the retrax pro installed. Really nice cover. Unfortunately, the stock bed rails have the molded plastic top trim that aren’t uniformly smooth. Therefore, this cover, and I’m sure most covers will have limitations on how water proof they are. The foam seal just doesn’t get a good enough seal with the plastic top trim groves. With how much detail Toyota put into design elements, I’m surprised this was over looked.

I’m still happy with the Retrax and other than a few drips along the sides, it’s a great cover.

Def not normal…I get a few drip drips from the tailgate area and cab area where I need to re-apply the putty they sent (OEM)…but with all the rain we have gotten here in the PNW my bed hasn’t looked anywhere close to that.

    sorry man

If anyone is in need of an OEM 6.5' tonneau, I would part ways with mine. I just don't see myself taking it on and off. I haul 2 dirtbikes with the tailgate up, so this puts a damper on that. Any interest? I will post in Buy/Sell after my 30 day re-initiation.

I just installed my Undercover Ultra Flex today and can confirm that the bed cleats do not work with the cover. I even checked with the Undercover sales rep.

I had an undercover ultraflex on my 21 Pro and an MX4 on my 21 F150 and honestly I found the MX4 to be very weak. It dented way too easy. I set my empty laundry basket on top and it put a dimple in the metal. Since I had one I tested with something else and I dropped my airpods case on it.........dented.

Not sure what I'll go with for my 22 Pro but I do like the tri folds.

Just thought I'd provide and update on my post from earlier this week on the extremely leaky Bakflip F1 cover. I reached out to Bakflip and sent pictures. In less than 48 hours, I received an email confirming an entire new product was being sent, rails and all. The email stated the usual policy was to show proof of the product being destroyed prior to shipping the replacement, but due to possible delays they would process the order and I did not have to destroy the existing cover until the new one was received and installed.

I am not happy about the excessive leaking, but the customer service is exceptional! Many companies claim to have great warranties until it's time to use them. I wish I was receiving this kind of service from Toyota!!

If it gets wet and then freezes it can freeze in the rails that house the rollers it won't move until you thaw it. I have had this happen on a few occasions.

I see pictures that the OEM one folds up against the cab. Can it be secured there? Can you drive around with a load and the tonneau folded up against the cab - any concerns?

I'm pretty sure the OEM cover is the same as Bakflip. With that said, the Bakflip is designed to rest against the cab in the fully open position. It has foam pads that protect the cab and can be secured there with metal arm/rod on each side. No worries.

My first tonneau cover on the Tundra was a different brand that did not rest against the cab but was held upright by rods. In my opinion, this was not near as secure as the folded cover, standing at 90 degrees, would rock back and forth while traveling down the road. In less than a week, the metal arms on mine were already showing a slight bow and the brackets were pulling out of the thin aluminum to which they were screwed. I think the design of leaning against the cab is much more secure.
