Please post any info on wrap to match supersonic red! Going to be visiting local shops this week to see what they say...
Local paint shops quoting over $1100 to paint mustache matched red... due to need to order new plastic parts - will not paint over existing metal-plated ones.
I have all other chrome delete covered... just that ridiculous looking grill surround left to figure out!

I just dropped my Limited to get the mustache paint matched. Cost ~$200 and pieces can be painted without being removed. I got several quotes and nobody asked for more than $300. $1000 for an hour of labor and paint seems insane.

That's good to know some shops will paint without removal, as well as paint over the silver. I hope I can find someone here to do that.

You know, that is what I would have thought... I'm going to keep looking. Just to be clear, the labor to disassemble, paint, and reassemble was $600-700, but they want new plastic parts which cost $450. That is at two reputable shops who said they would not paint metallic surfaces. I'm going to visit a few more shops.

My truck has the satin chrome, if yours has the shiny chrome it may be more difficult. Everyone who looked at mine said itd take paint no problem with a little sanding

On the Limiteds, it is similar to a brushed nickel finish, so it has a slightly textured feel to it as opposed the smooth surface of the straight chrome finish.

Just an update from Northern California:
    - Visited two smaller paint shops today and got the exact same answers and prices from each. They will paint the existing mustache pieces, but they need to be removed in order to get a quality job, especially at the edges. They will sand, epoxy prime, sand again and then apply the specific 3-coat system required to match the 3U5 Supersonic Red. Both said this is not an easy match and these six steps are required to get optimum adhesion. Leave out any step and it will peel or not match. Due to this complexity, they are at $700 IF I bring them the parts - so I need to do the disassembly and reassembly (which I don't mind since then I don't have to leave my new truck at body shop for 3-4 days). Better than spending $450 on new plastic parts and then paying for them to paint them. These are local prices where labor rates are $100/hr and up... other areas of the country are certainly lower.
    - Visited two vinyl wrap shops and got answers on wrap to match SS Red - Nada. We held up samples of all their reds from all their suppliers and all looked ugly next to the factory paint. One thing I am considering is wrapping the big silver mustache with satin black or carbon fiber black. I am worried it will just make that huge grill look huger, but with vinyl I can give it a try and if I don't like it I can peel it off and go the paint route. If I do wrap, I may go ahead and wrap the handles and rear bumper arms with a satin black rather than swap them out. Black handles on red truck could look fine I think.

One way or another that horrible mustache is on borrowed time!!

Every vinyl wrap shop around me is saying the same things about wrapping the chrome/brushed chrome as the paint shops. The vinyl adhesive is designed to stick to clear coat specifically and while they will wrap the pieces for me, nobody will honor any warranty because they all think it won't hold up over time. I've been quoted $300-$450 to wrap just the grill. Being Blueprint though, my color isn't even on that color match chart so I think a match is probably pretty hopeless. I'm thinking I either find someone to paint match it, or I'm gonna just plastidip it and call it a day. I would prefer to not put a black surround on the already huge black grill though, making it look even larger. Color matched shrinks it down a little bit at least

Does anyone have any ideas on what to do about the white lettering on the TRD sticker? Wish it was grey or black.
Minor stuff, but if I'm spending bucks on chrome delete it would be nice to address this too...

The plastidip turned out just a touch richer black than the surrounding plastics, but you can only see it in certain lights if you know what youre looking for. I think over time it will wear blend in more as it lightens up in the sun. For $6 worth of reversible paint and some super easy labor I'm happy

Hopefully your experience with Plastidip is better than mine. I had a chrome delete done on my wife's Highlander right after we bought it and less than a year later it was chipping up all over and looked like crap. We just recently removed all of it and it was a complete pain in the ass to remove, there is still some on the wheels I can't get off and that's with using Dip Disolver. It was probably just the person I used to do it and I would think you'll have a good experience by taking it to a reputable place but my experience was enough to decide I'll never use it again on a vehicle.

That sucks man! I've been using plastidip on autos for over 10 years and have it down pretty well. I painted my entire 2018 Tacoma's canopy with it since I found a snugtop for $500 in the wrong color. Looked great and lasted me 4 years! Only took it off to sell it. Now removing it sucked after sitting in the sun for 4 years, but ultimately it all came off with some elbow grease. If worse comes to worse you can use a 3M eraser wheel and that'll make short work of it.

The trick is to lay it on EXTRA thick. The thicker it is, the easier it will be to peel off later. Obviously you don't want it to run, but I did 5 or 6 real thick coats on those bumper panels and they don't see as much direct sun as the canopy so I don't think it'll be too difficult to remove if I decide to go a different route later.

I just picked my truck up from having the mustache painted. Limited with satin chrome grille.

Total cost was $185 with tax and was finished in 24hrs. Paint is matched perfectly to the midnight black metallic.

Crap that is cheap! Maybe I need to drive CA to PA to get it done. :)

Can't find anywhere around here for less than $600-700 and that is with me disassembling and bringing in the parts. A couple of the guys said this ss red is particularly hard to match... but that may be smoke-blowing.

It may be hard, I assume black is pretty easy but they did match the metallic.

It might just be the cost for your area. Even around me most shops are booked for a few weeks and I know a lot of shops wont do small cosmetic jobs

On the back bumpers - I want to wrap them. Does anyone know a wrap that matches celestial silver metallic?

Ps. I also took truck to 4 painters. To paint the stash and the “rear bumper arms” 3 out of the 4 said no way. Won’t stick will chip instantly. Makes me wonder if the 4th just wants my money and doesn’t care.

I committed to the paint route for the 'stache yesterday. Wrapping quotes were $400 and that only lasts a few years. And wrap would have to be black, making the huge grill even bigger on a red truck.

Over the past two weeks I went to 5 paint shops. First two said no, need to buy new parts ($700 at local dealer including tax) and then $700 to paint and install. The other three all said yes, they do it all the time. Key is the sanding and priming with activator before prime coat. All three said same thing and quoted about the same...$600-700. These are all legit custom shops that do hot rods, classics and other specials and all have years of experience. The guy I ended up going with said it will be important to monitor rock chips and touch up immediately to prevent them growing over time.

The removal of the mustache pieces took a little over an hour. I followed the excellent video by the CBI bumper guy that is on another thread. Took the parts right down and they said they will start today, be done 3-4 days. There are about 8 steps: sand, activator, epoxy primer, base coat for red, tinted mid-coat for red, top coat and then three layers of clear coat. I took them one of the factory painted bumper pieces to match to.

I know it is a roll of the dice, but if the worst happens and it peels or looks awful, I can wrap as a backup plan.

For the rest of the truck, I ordered black rear bumper arms, badge overlay, garnish for tailgate handle. Am holding off on handles for now and trying to wrap with satin black vinyl. If looks like crap will then order the red handles. Thankfully the truck came without the chrome window dressing!
