Howdy, I'm looking at ordering a 2021 tomorrow and I'm also concerned about the Fin. My garage header is exactly 77 1/4 inches from the cement. Any found a modified antenna yet. Thanks in advance.

I haven't finished my relocation yet but I did take an exploded picture of the shark fin prior to reassembling.

Nice work and great post with part numbers. Sound like you have a rack is it for overlanding? I'm trying to figure out which combination of tires and lift will still allow me to park in the garage. If I don't relocate the fin how tall is it? Thanks

    Thank you.

I do have an UpTop Overland cab rack. I'm trying to build an overland rig but it will be a couple of years before it will be used at its potential; children.
I'd hate to thread jack but you are welcome to check out my build thread if you are interested. Just click the 'up arrow' on the threads I quoted.

    The shark fin measures about:
    Height - 2.6"
    Width - 2.6"
    Length - 7.75"

Better than the antenna, nice if it was just flat though.

Is it a sectional door ? I've never seen one that you couldn't adjust to open almost above the header if you're using an opener. I installed them for a few years

I have a 2020 tundra crewmax, so far I’ve fitted it with 5100s all round put 18” Toyo MT 35 x 12:50 on and my fin has 1 inch to the top of the garage door frame! I wanted to go 4” but that’s not an option! Now because I’m only at roughly a 2” lift my tyres rub even after a BMC! I did see somone online post pictures of a low profile antena as he fitted a overland roof rack! I’ll try and find it but I feel your pain guys!

Nice looking truck, well I have a few weeks to find a solution for the fin, before the truck arrives.

2021 tundra crewmax trd pro........ i have only owned toyotas and always will, but this truck has some stupidity issues like i have never seen before, but its still a toyota, but i think my 2008 crewmax limited was nicer and better build quality.just my personal opinion. but on the shark fin antenna i noticed the fm reception is horrible!!!! lived here for years never had a problem, but this truck radio can't play clearly when every radio around here seems too pick it up just fine. Would love to disconnect the fm antenna in the fin and get a normal mast one or something. anyone come across any similar issues? my rack is not here yet so i will have to wait and see on the rack fitment issue with the fin. but if anyone has put another fm antenna on i would love to know your results..... if i could do it over again i would either keep my 2008 or get a 2018

I too am wondering if there is a delete for the fin. I’m in a 2020 TRD Pro and just installed 295/70/R18 Falkon Wildpeaks and I still make it in my garage. Unfortunately I have a coach builder kit coming. I think I’ll just have enough room but don’t feel like smashing the fin going in and out.

Cruise the Tacoma forums. They have quite a few threads about the topic. Some of them seem to be separating the antenna components due to bad reception. We all know Toyota loves to use the same part across multiple platforms, so you might find what you need has already been solved or in work by the latest gen of Taco owners.

You could also call Uptopoverland. They built a solution for the last gen of shark fin. I imagine they are working on the latest gen or at least can help you with advice from their endeavors.

Common complaint on the taco forum. There was talk about water getting in them. Few separated the components.

I find this thread soooo ironic. Folks bitched about the "removeable" (emphasis on removeable) fender mounted antenna getting snapped off while going through a "non touchless" car wash. Antenna worked fine, got decent reception, but then got scrapped out to put on a crap kuul looking 50 cal stubby which in no way possible could get any decent reception past the mall. Yota responds by apparently having the same engineer design the new "must have or deal breaker" kuul fin antenna that determined our starter location.o_O Give me a F'ing break. Fancy "iffy" tech isn't a strong point for me. The new Yota fin antenna is "iffy". I work with REAL high tech test equipment that many of our clients use. Up to 110 GHz. 110 billion Hertz by the way. Many of their products are flying at 33K ft overhead right now or in orbit and beyond. All aircraft and spacecraft have several various fin antenna's that actually can't be "good enough". They actually have to be flawless. (At least that's what the goal is but possible failures are certainly taken into account any time you leave mother dirt.) Very good fin antenna's than can stand the rigors of flight. Mounted in a "no shit sherlock" location where it can't get easily damaged. Shit happens of course. We are human after all. Yota engineers are human. Apparently the aircraft/spacecraft terrestrial truck fin antenna "look" is
    de rigueur now.

Aircraft and spacecraft have a couple things in common.......A big f'ing HANGER to park in...as in no fin antenna's or pitot's to break off while parking. Hello???

Sometimes you get what you wish for......heh...heh..

Deep breaths bro. Not everyone who complained wanting them is now complaining against . Those are some pretty broad brush strokes your using to paint this picture. It sucks this isn't an easier fix for those who find themselves needing it.

Also, I've een pleanty of TACAN antennas bite the dust from hitting a tanker. Engineers don't always think through usage or how to facilitate a replacement.

Did you read the whole thread? What about the guys with camper shells that can't mount them because of the antenna height, or the roof rack that won't fit?

    better to be constructive.

I am thinking of moving my shark fin forward, as I am about to get a aluminium topper and hold my hardshell tent, which will overhand over the cab. Access to that 10mm bolt can be without removing the entire headliner? And can I just drill another hole for the fin's fastener bolt and cable?

Not broad brush strokes at all. Simply pointing out the irony. As far as a TACAN antenna getting disabled by a careless tanker driver>>> bird down. Not a good thing. Not a good thing at all if that bird was in the middle of flight ops and flight readiness scores took a hit. I can tell you from experience the CO would ensure that someone's ass would get severely chewed out. You can't have tanker drivers disabling aircraft. An engineer had better take in to account usage when designing. That's the whole point. Lol. Obviously there is even more of an issue now with the new antenna placement. A big problem now without a fix. Yota needs to offer a solution for this. When I lived in Japan most people that had a house had no garage. Living space is prized. Campers on trucks even more rare there. Some Yota engineers need to realize living in America is a bit different. The irony.

A slide in camper can be shimmed or blocked up enough to clear the antenna. Not ideal but doable. Roof rack is a problem. Would require some modification but better than cutting into a roof to relocate the antenna. A bit of a dilemma there.

At least you don't have to worry getting it ripped off like the old whip. A good thing for sure.
