out of all videos in this thread, I would be alarmed with this one ... assuming the video is not adding or creating additional sound effects.
there could also be a reasonable explanation but it sounds different that all other Tundras I've seen!

OP's Tundra sound like a Prius compared to this :D

I gotta be honest with you man, I just listened to my 2020 platinum with 8500 miles on it this morning, and it sounds the same as yours. It's a big f*cking V8 engine. What do you expect it to sound like? A prius? Why are we even having this long drawn out thread about this. If yours sounded like the 2014 the other guy posted, then sure, theres something wrong, but come on.

You ever wonder why people always use the Prius as a cross a reference against the Tundra with respect to gas mileage. Why not a Smart car, Echo, Volt or any of the other small pieces of shit. No offence if anyone is into those. They are actually good cars.

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone has a pleasant and entertaining day :))

On a side note, this Wutang virus is causing me to save so much money at the pump that it’s practically a Prius. No joke, but I haven’t seen gas so cheap in years. I’m driving this truck balls to the walls on highway cause fuel is practically free at Costco.

I think it's a mixture of OP's expectations and comparisons to other trucks that he's listening to.

Sounds like general consensus through 4 pages is that this sound is normal. Buttt...OP, if you're still not satisfied, keep searching for answers. I don't think dealerships have anything to gain by not working on your truck. Hell, they'll make money.

FWIW, my 2020 Sounds the same like all others....Except that 2014 :eek2:

My 2020 with less than 500 miles on it has that exact ticking sound. I’ve noticed it from day one. I feel it’s louder than it should be but I’m under warranty so oh well. If it gets worse Ill have it looked into. It does seem to quiet down after a good drive though. Cold it does it, and even after driving for a few minutes it does it. But after it’s been warmed up for a while and driven it’s fairly silent.

With all do respect it’s a ticking sound, on it doesn’t mean it’s not reliable or not excellent or something is wrong. It’s a noise. There’s moving parts to an engine. If it irritates you that much than don’t keep it.

Yaris is a great die hard car along with the Matrix I think it’s called. They last forever. Too bad they don’t make them anymore.

OP, I don’t if someone has mentioned this before, but what brand fuel you using and what octane ? If you’re using 87; try running it empty and running 91 for the week and see if it quiets down for you. Some of the vehicles I have quiet down a bit when i fun better fuel.

No. There was a TRD performance exhaust on it, installed by the dealer before I even looked at it.

Thanks everyone for your replies, especially the folks who sent video replies. I’m warming up to the idea this sound is normal for this engine. If it gets louder like that 2014 posted above, I’ll just work with the dealer some more. Thanks again all, and happy cruising!

I know...This is my son's 2014 which has about 60K miles on it. The noise is very intermittent and every time he brings it to the dealer they are unable to reproduce the sound. The only thing I think it could be is piston slap which tends to happen more often in cold weather such as we have here in Vermont.

My 14 FJ with 100k on it and my 19 Tundra with 9k on it have only ever had toyota 0w-20 and toyota filters in it. And they are both noisey, but have been reliable. I have oil analysis done on them reguarly and no wear metals or any issues that would show an internal issue.

Should mention that my 19 has already had 2 oil changes, and no change in noise, but very little breakin material in the last oil sample at 7k.

This is how mine sounds, except sometimes there's a "cold start rattle". I've had it show up after parking it for 20 minutes once, but it always goes away after about 10-15 seconds and never comes back while the engine is running. 2008 with 257k miles. Maybe I just need a little bit heavier oil or something.

So, my '07 with nearly 200,000 miles and my '14 with 90,000 miles sound just like your engine OP. One thing I have noticed, when I put higher octane, Midgrade, it quiets down a bit. Never goes away, but I noticed. I don't have a video so can't share. I will give it a test since this isn't the first forum post about the tick-tick-tick our engines do. The other thing to notice is if I put cheap gas or Chevron (Top Tier) gas, there is a noticeable tick on the cheap gas.

Question for you ? How often were you changing the oil with your 07 rig with 200k ? Any issues ?

Knock on wood yours is doing great by the sound of it. I’m brain washed with the 5k change interval. But I will stop doing that as it apparent I’m blowing cash and resources for no reason.

I don’t mean to highjack this thread

I was changing it every 5,000 - 7,000 miles. The shocks needed to be replaced, but that was about it. The only other issues I had were an idiot that didn't stop and slammed into the back of my truck, it got fixed, then a year later a drunk driver hitting me head on. Though the truck saved my families life that night. If we had been in our minivan it would have been a completely different accident. I miss that truck! That is also why I didn't hesitate to grab a '14 with 91,000 miles on it after they paid me for my truck.

Thanks for sharing your story. Crazy how that’s all you fixed given the mileage. It’s a true testament to the reliability of this vehicle. I hope I never get the itch to change to the new model when it comes out.

I figure that when my son is 16 I can pass the'14 down to him and look at a new model since they will have a few years on them by then.

I keep promising my son my truck, but I keep changing damn trucks lol :D

Whatever I end up having at the time, I will just download it on him and that should give me an excuse for something new. At least thats my backwards thinking.
