They ordered a transfer case. Whatever. I'm dropping it off when the transfer case comes in and they can have it until the noise is gone.

Just got the truck back after the transfer case change. Noise is still there. I talked to the service manager today and he's ordering up another new front differential. Figures that the replacement is a bad rebuild.

If it wasn't for bad luck, you'd have no luck at all. :(

    Ya what are the chances!

Actually I do consider myself a luck person. The service manager has been great to work with.

This is why on my 4Runner I drove to ECGS and had them install their bushing even though I could have gone through the warranty night mare you are going through now. An if this happens on my Tundra I will do the same thing. Don't have time to go back and forth and the bushing is good for about 400,000 miles. Hope this last diff will fix the issue for you.

To update thos further. The dealer has had the truck for more than two weeks. They have replaced and checked everything. They have check the transmission (dropped pan), changed the transfer case, replaced both front and rear driveshaft, pulled the rear diff pumpkin and checked the backlash, replaced the front differential, replaced both front CV axles, replaced both front wheel bearings and tried another set of tire assemblies and the vibration continues. Toyota engineers have been asking them to measure driveshaft angles and everything is good. They even asked the tech to remove my TRD sway bar. At this point Toyota corporate and the dealership are running out of ideas but they are still working on it. The dealership principle is seriously think of buying the truck back to make the problem go away. I may take him up on that.

Sorry to hear that but I'm glad your dealership and Toyota is working with you rather than brushing you off.

Have they inspected for any runout at the axles? Are the rims running true?

It only vibrates at around 55mph in 4WD during deceleration. The front diff has been changed along with the CV axles and driveshafts. Different tires and rims where installed and it still vibrates.

Actually that's not a bad suggestion but the service manager said they could feel a heavy vibration in the front differential when they drove the the truck in 4wd when on the 4 post hoist.

Good idea. This is a very prevalent problem with Rams.

Sounds like a cracked weld or two sections were not seated when riveted. I am spit balling here since I am not laying under my truck looking at the frame. There is always going to be vibration, but how much is allowed to transmit could be the issue,

The way the tech and service manager described it there is an abnormally heavy vibration from the front differential @ 55mph when they placed their hand on it when running on the hoist.

So the question is, do I bail on the truck and let the dealer buy me out if the price is good. Not really liking that they can't find the problem and the the truck has been torn apart and put back together. I was thinking I should dump it because I fear that when the problem is finally found I will be out of my warranty. I tried to get a Toyota to extend the powertrain warranty but they wouldn't commit. I kind of leaning of dumping it, buying and older Tundra and wait until the 2022 Tundra proves itself. The wife think we should keep the 2020 because she only thinks day to day.

What a shitshow. Feel for ya man.

Only thing I can offer technically at this point given the scope of what has been done and checked: If the right side hub, shock tower is off putting the front diff in a bit of a bind. This would of course be a grotesque manufacturing issue or tolerance stack issue.

If not in 4wd you'd not notice it. Only when ADD actuator engages does it load the right side axle.

Its the only thing not replaced or touched at this point.

I'd be working the buyback in a hurry.

If Tundra prices are as crazy up there as they are here, I would sell it and get a beater for the time being. Once this whole auto market calms down, you will have many options to choose from V8 Tundra or V6.

Yep i second this. get as much as you can squeeze out of them to buy the truck back. buy a pos that can get you through a year and buy a brand new 2022 or 2023 once this market cools off.

That the way I'm leaning. I will come down to what they offer on the Tundra. We dont really have a buy back from Toyota Corporate in Canada that I'm away of. The dealer principle had mentioned buying the truck back to get me out of the mess but we'll see based on their dollar offer if they are just looking for an opportunity to make some cash. They do have an older 2013 Nissan Frontier with low mileage that I could drive for a year. We'll see what they come back for on numbers.

yeah it would be nice if you can buy whatever you drive for the next year or so with whatever they offer you over what you owe, drive for a year with no payment and save up some $$$

Tough call but one thing is for sure, at this point you will always be thinking you hear or feel something in that truck and it will weigh on you mentally. I have never been through such an experience but I would probably try and get as much as I could out of them and let them have this one.

I gave them a call yesterday and told them to come up with some numbers. They have a Nissan Frontier that's in good shape with low mileage that would carry me through until the new Tundra arrives. They said they would be having a meeting with Toyota corp, the dealer principle and the service manager. Unfortunately they dont have any used Tundras on the lots. We'll see how this all plays out. If I can't get a fair trade in price I'll keep it and push for an extended warranty and trade it in before the warranty is up.
