If I didn't already have 7 different grille inserts sitting in my basement I'd be ordering up one of these new grilles for my 2016. I thought the same thing about using gloss black and matte black over a plastic dummy panel. I also thought it would be a great spot to incorporate a flush mounted forward view camera into the rectangle dummy panel since I have no sensor to worry about.

I will be posting the finished product hopefully today. This was to show the options and for testing purposes. Like I said I think you guys will be very pleased with the outcome.
Since the radar itself is only 2.5 x 2.5 the protective shield will hidden underneath a molded front piece that flows with the grille

No paint or vinyl overlay will be used. Im actually incorporating a molded plastic piece that flows with the grille design

Well, thanks for letting us know about this! I guess that solves my dilemma of choosing between the honeycomb and Pro grille when I eventually color-match...

My new 2019 pro grille bracket that im about to release into the tundra world will incorporate and compliment the front of the grille.

Not saying that its easier to build. By all means it you like the 2017 trd pro grille better I have you covered brother

That would make things easier since the 2017 Pro grille is the only version that comes in cement. I am kind of digging the look of the honeycomb with a color match though. Maybe if I could find someone who wants a 2017 Pro grille I could order a Platinum grille in whatever color and a Pro grille in cement, then just swap the inserts...

Let's see what @ARES for his new cover. On his thread he stated he will make the faceplate match the design, and with all the great work he's done so far I figure just get the faceplate from him would work for pre-2018 Tundras.

The emblem cover for the regular grill is $42 so I'm hoping for a competing price, it's a tossup whether I'll go 2018 honeycomb or 2019 Pro grill.
Either that or maybe Roman can come up with something for a simple cover.

If your just needing the front cover with matching grille design for the 2019 pro grille and do not need the bracket. T

They will be $80 shipped. Thats not to far off from $42 plus shipping. If you like the design and want it then it will be available.

I promise you soon as I get the photos uploaded of my design and the difference in toyotas design you will sold.

Fellow tundra brothers work has been continuing on the 2019 trd pro grille shield and bracket orders are still shipping early this upcoming week. The first test run of matching grille pieces did not fair well in testing the radar had issues.
I found out the resin used for the plastic was not opaque enough and caused a deflection of the radar.
Next round of resin is curing and should be assembled tonight and testing. Every design is tested for over a 100miles because that is the equated learn time of our ecus.
So my hard work and truck mileage are here for you.

Attaching a photo for future enjoyment.
Polymer opaque resin longer cure time but same used in camera lens and laser lights.

ARES 2019 TRD PRO GRILLE bracket/shield.

The 2019 Trd grille comes with a mounting place for the radar but no hardware or shield. Toyota sells a garnish shield but it looks like crap and cost $365! So I came up with a solution!

    Ares Bracket/Shield $100 shipped

    20180815_180613.jpg

I tested several resins for plastic casting and finally came up with one that works well with the radar function.

I did not get the dye calculated correctly in this one but the shipments received will be pretty close to matching.

    Toyotas $365 garnish/shield

Let me know what you guys think!
