Crowd: Transmission temps are too high. What no Cooler now?

Peanut Gallery: Just buy a Transmission Cooler and watch those temps cool!

Random Guy: But watch out because if Toyota finds out they’ll void your warranty!

    Guy on fence:

Lol pretty much! I contacted the service manager at my local dealership, super cool guy I've known for a while. He looked into the OEM install for me and came back with "we can do it if you want but Toyota says we can't warranty the transmission if something goes wrong in the future." Naturally he recommended waiting until the warranty is up and then have them install it. Meh

Peanut Gallery Tale of Probablilities For 2019+ Transmission Failure, Outside of Warranty with 60K mile fluid changes:

Tundra transmission failure in normal service (no towing, no off road): 5%
Tundra transmission failure towing heavy WITHOUT auxiliary cooler: 85%
Tundra transmission failure towing heavy WITH retrofitted cooler: 15%
Help from Toyota after warranty expiration: 0%

Conclusion: Grow a pair. It's a good transmission under reasonable service conditions. Give warranty the bird. :D

Where did I get the numbers?...From (1) 10% Peanut Gallery JOOMA, (2) 55% long life experience, (3) 25% old age treachery, and (4) 10% capriciousness.

As good as it's going to get regarding "rock solid evidence" on the internet...at least for now.

Only Rock Solid evidence I needed to see was that letter from the Toyota Engineer (anonymous) basically saying they should have kept the Cooler.

Other evidence: I have actually have an OEM Cooler that cools too well in winter and decided to put a Thermostatic Valve to Bypass the Cooler. Trying to keep those temps up in the 140-170° range vs. 110-130°.

Considering I've had to draw back the hardness on some types of tool steel as low as 400 degrees F, a warning fluid temperature of 300 doesn't make sense to me. The fluid cools the gears, so by the laws of physics as there's no such thing as a zero friction gear tooth the gears passing torque will always be warmer than the fluid, and if the planets lose their surface hardness then I imagine bad things happen. Some steels can take higher temps for longer but in general, high heat + time together gradually softens heat treated steel. This is what messed up 5th gear on my R155F Tacoma. The output shaft gear for 5th was completely above the fluid level and it's small. Barely bigger than a golf ball. It always ran hot and on the drive side of the tooth faces developed blue discoloration and pitting that made it whine like crazy. The larger engaging gear on the countershaft had no damage whatsoever because it was 5" across and half submerged. That was factory tires, a 159 hp engine, and never towing.

I wonder what the viscosity of WS is at 300F.

This must be why Toyota says tow in S4 now. 1:1 ratio means no generating heat in the gearing and the extra rpm keeps the torque converter locked more. Good luck in the mountains though. It hits 240 with the cooler

I dont think Toyota said to tow in S4 but to use tow mode. Holy hell 240 with cooler you would be 300 plus without.
