Good morning folks. Have been rocking' my 2019 Cement double cab for a year now. Currently has 40K on the odo. Finally got around to having Scanguage update my software to allow the monitoring of the transmission temps. I took a 200 mile trip from Santa Rosa to Sacramento yesterday and much to my chagrin, my tranny temps were a constant 225-235 while rolling at 80 mph on the freeway. Outside temps were 68F and I was towing nothing. I have been a long time lurker here, and have been following the issues with regards to the tranny cooler omission by Toyota in the 2019 models. Pretty concerned about the temps. I understand that WS is a mediocre fluid at best (have been a member of BITOG for fifteen years). I have a case of Amsoil that will go in as soon as I find a reputable shop here in the Santa Rosa area. I went to the dealership where I purchased my truck this am in hopes that they would assure me that this is "normal." While I know it is not, I wanted to hear their take. But that is a whole different saga, as they proved to be as incompetent as I had assumed they would be in terms of tribology. Thoughts on the high temps? I know the WS fluid is spent. I can only surmise based on others' UOA's that it is.

There are a couple uoas floating around, one with low miles and one with about 50 or 60k miles of towing on a 2019 with no cooler. The fluid was still good. Get ready for a different opinion on every post. I run Schaeffers in my trans.

Just what we needed, another completely useless transmission thread. Thanks OP!

Really guys? What a warm welcome. From reading all of the (dozens) of pages in multiple threads, I was unaware that I had provided any information that had "already been discussed." From what I had read, seems as if the normal operating temps are about 190-200F. Just wanted some input as if anyone else had seen temps THIS HIGH while under normal operating conditions.

Sorry man, This is just a long going topic that everyone is beating down. Do yourself a search and there's tons of information including people with similar operating temps in your position. Welcome to the forums. Don't let us jerks steer you away!

I don't know if this is condescending or not, but believe me, I am well aware of the proper kit that a member is selling here. When the funds permit, that will be the route I go.

I understand that his has been a point of contention for those of us who are incessant about our trucks. I get it. It has been a few months since I delved deep into the rabbit hole of the transmission threads on here. I did not recall reading about temps into the 230's.

I don't think I've ever had my Tundra at 80mph (128km/hr). You guys drive fast down there.

and yes...there are probably 6 active threads on the same Transmission temp issue, cooler and another 73 dead threads.

Can't find any with temps in the 230's on a day in the 60's while towing nothing.

I am aware of the kit. It is on my "wish list." Several UOA's on BITOG would "disagree" that is still suitable for use at this mileage as well.

Not every thread will have the exact scenario. Some will be 228* with temps in the 220* in a Blue Tundra, but they are all the same topic, outcome and discussion.

Yeah, I understand. The consensus of all of these threads is that "Toyota fuc@ed up, and we should install a cooler." That is why the kit is sold on here. I was asking if anyone else has noticed these high temps under similar conditions. Assuming that if I towed anything, that my temps would be into the 240-250's.

I wouldn't necessarily say the consensus is that Toyota messed up on this...
There's a handful of people concerned, which is fine for them. But I don't think that's majority

The folks who are concerned are those- like us- who consider our trucks as an extension of our "family" and treat it as such. We congregate in forums such as these to illicit feedback and provide data points for other to use to make informed decisions.

Until you actually test your oil you won't know if anything needs to be remedied or not. Get the cooler and/or change the oil more frequently.

I love my truck, Don't get me wrong. But it's also just a vehicle that I use as I please. That doesn't mean I don't care for it or follow these forums for information to help myself out.
With that said though, I wish you the best of luck with the transmission temps and hopefully you figure out a resolution that works best.

Sorry man, nothing personal. If your temps were that high towing nothing, it doesn’t seem normal to me. I’d take it to the dealership and have them check it out. How certain are you that you were getting an accurate reading? Any chance that for some reason the reading was inaccurate?

Point being, that if we all have come to the "consensus" that 180-190 is optimal, it would not be out of line to assume that at 230F, the fluid will/would/can break down faster and provide for a shortened life of the tranny. But as most here already know that, it follows that 230F would be cause for concern, especially under normal operating conditions.

If the Scanguage's software is off/incorrect, that would be the only way that it would be an error.

That does seem a bit high under those conditions. Get that "kit". Definitely lowers temps from what I've seen reported here and you get some peace of mind too. I have a 14 and rarely tow so not an issue for me:thumbsup:

If you think the reading was accurate, you should get your truck checked out. Temp should not be that high under those conditions. Welcome to the forum btw.

Thank you guys for those whom provided constructive responses. Anyone know of a competent shop here in the North Bay that is capable of installing the kit?

Try taking a reading going 60mph and see if it changes. I'm curious if the high speed affected it, which I think it does.
