First post but long time Toyota guy. Intrested in this discussion but also saw that At Witts End dropped a mounting system for the Scanguage last night. Uses a rear mounting plate with standard 1" RAM Mount. Super clean and brilliantly simple idea. Further down someone asked about mounts.

I also have a 19, and if you drive 65mph you will notice a difference, also if you keep it in 4th or 5th also lows temps. Driving 80mph in 6th the temps rise quickly. Something tells me Toyota didnt tell the tranny temps for people who drive over 65mph. I was actually pleasantly surprised that I kept my temps under 200 while towing in 4th and keeping it at 65 or under. Probably not the answer you're looking for but having this truck has definitely made me slow down.

Still waiting for the OP to report back on my comment on temp vs speed vs distance, that many scoffed at

The manual does say not to exceed 65 mph when towing.

I’m 83% sure it recommends towing In S4 since 5th and 6th are both overdrive gears. With 5th and 6th not locking up I would expect higher temps.

I was meaning how the torque converter wouldn’t be locked up, sorry. I wonder what the temp difference would be running 65mph in s4, s5 and D just to see if that is making it heat up more. In the manual and I think most posted speed limits while towing it says 65mph or less as well as towing in s4

The torque converter can lock up in any gear when on a flat surface going a constant speed.

I know of a lot of roads around me are 75mph but if towing it’s 65mph.

Or go 110mph towing a trailer for 4 hrs and report back what your temps are.

That is where mine stays in same conditions. I get into the Texas Hill Country about every other month and the torque converter gets up there from all the unlocking. I've seen TQ temps up to 254F for a 0.5 second, but the pan temps never get above 235F.

I've also noticed that ambient conditions don't seem to have as large of an impact as I thought they would. I have made several trips across the state here in Tx in winter, summer, and now fall and have seen maybe a 5-6 F difference.

I'll say this though...the thermal management seems to be really consistent truck to truck.

I've researched the Amsoil stuff too and their signature series is on my list of to do's when the time comes.

However I wouldn't totally discount WS. Its a really good group iii oil.

yep. major stretch of i-20 in west texas has 80mph official limit. Its crazy having to pass a frac string (5-6 long trucks) and you hit 95+.

Unless the new fluid has a substantially different thermal conductivity or heat transfer coefficient, this isn't a thing that will happen.

However the amsoil ATF is seriously high quality PAO group IV synthetic that laughs at 300F temps.

I have a 2014 Tundra DC and am thinking of getting a new 2021 CM. My 2014 has a transmission cooler and the 2021 I'm looking at does not. Having seen a lot of these threads on transmission coolers I came across this this video by TFL I think you all may like. Maybe some questions get answered. I'm not concerned. Seems that some are getting the temps that others are getting even while towing.

That video was posted in the other thread. Apparently in the first version they had concerns. The video was pulled “for editing” and then reuploaded with no concerns and a quote from Toyota. The conspiracy people say Toyota told them to change it or they would pull any support they give them. I haven’t seen it, but heard it also only tests for 8 min and isn’t representative of someone actually towing.

Can someone post a picture of their overheated/destroyed transmission in their Tundra? Curious to see what it looks like.
