If it make you feel any better, I’ve been towing almost constantly with my 2019 since I picked it up. It goes weeks at a time without my work trailer even getting unhooked. It’s coming up on 5K miles and I’d guess 4,000 of those or more are towing trailers that weigh twice what your boat does or more. Sucks when it’s your truck though.

Nope he will get a reman. Why? Because the transmission that broke was used for X miles before it broke. It was not new so why replace with new?
With that said, our company's reman hydrostats are actually better than new.

Rocked my C6s real hard a couple of times. 2 different F150s. I always adddd a cooler and shift kit. Never had one fail but C6s were bullet proof.

That would frustrate me if I had a 2019 with so few miles on it.... but I suppose if it’s in the fine print of the new car warranty...
it’s in the new car warranty. I can’t imagine the transmission would be remanufactured by a third party. But I don’t know either. Does you company build new for manufacturers? Are you remanufactured ones used for new car warranty work... not extended warranty work... but the 3/36.

The reman parts that were mentioned above that is disallowed is like a rebuilt starter from NAPA. Transmissions and other large components are reman certified by Toyota and are remanned by people who know what they are doing. If it's like our program then they use the case and a few other parts. The cast majority of parts are replaced with new. Plus the transmission is under 5 60 drivetrain.

Does Toyota actually make the tranmissions or are they made by Aisin?

Dealer called today, said its ready for pickup. He swapped the transmission, updated the radio as I have noted a muffled mic (from people complaining that I sound muffled when speaking on the Bluetooth), and he said he secured the fog lights and they should not rattle anymore going over bumps. I am picking it up around 8am tomorrow. Anything to look for or ask?

Did you get a new trans or a rebuilt in your transaction?

Well, picked up the truck and a few observations.
    1. They installed a "NEW REMAN" transmission. I wonder how long this one will last and how old was it before they rebuilt it.
    2. The fog lights were tightened and noted on the ticket that "HAS AFTERMARKET FOG LAMPS ASSEMBLY... ASSEMBLY DOES NOT SECURE INTO HOUSING, RE-SECURE FOG LAMPS INTO HOUSINGS" I told the service mgr that they were factory and he asked if they were something the dealer installed as "they are not secure they way they have been installed". I said no, the Rigid fogs come from the factory installed on the PRO. Still wobbly FYI
    3. Truck smelled like a mechanic and the steering wheel was tacky, quick wash and detail and that is handled.

I will say that everyone in the service dept was very effective, cordial, nice and honest with the exception of the fog light issue and warranty on the REMAN I drove away happy.

I would be pissed if my new $50k truck had to get a reman'd tranmission. You're handling it better than me.

Were you able to get Toyota Corporate to give you a longer warranty on the transmission? I would fight for that.

Its mechanical and sh!ts going to happen no matter how reliable it is. Getting pissed off at the people trying to fix your truck won't work in your favor. It's kind off like pissing off the cook making your food.

You mean to tell me that the service department has no idea that the pros have rigid fogs?

Not the service manager or the tech that did the work. I have the exact wording in my paperwork. Including them stating that it does not fit securely

Yeah that's not what I meant. I'm not saying get angry with anyone, certainly not the dealership. I'd be pissed at the situation and ask that Toyota does something to try and remedy the situation.

Must be infuriating to have a transmission fail so early in the game. If it's any consolation at least it failed while under warranty. I had a Silverado whose transmission started rattling at about 34k miles. Took it in for service and they said it was normal and that they all did that. They also said that because it had been reported within the warranty time period that Chevy would fix it if it failed within a reasonable amount of time. Needless to say that the tranny went out at about 50k miles and Chevy refused to cover the repair costs.
Here's hoping yours lasts another 300k miles, just make sure you keep an eye out cause when the warranty is over, it's over.

My fogs were loose on my limited...I used as few zip ties to calm them down. It’s not ideal but they dont dance anymore.

Did you not have them document your concern while under warranty and then present that paperwork back to them out of warranty? That should have taken care of that. I have done this. Getting close to warranty...there was an issue...they say that can't replicate or that "it's normal" and so I make them document my concerns in the paperwork and their response, then if it tanks out of warranty, you have skin in the game. Did that with a GMC for a transmission issue at 35,000 miles. Tanked at 41,000. The dealership balked, I told my story to corporate and presented the dealership paperwork showing I brought it in for the issue TWICE under warranty and that they wouldn't investigate it. GM covered the repair.

Sure thing, it was in their system according to corporate, however they felt that it was not related due to that the truck went on for another 15k miles or so without breaking and thus refused coverage.

Vehicle warranty is like any other insurance, you just hope the crooks will cover whatever goes wrong.

My fogs are loose too on my '19 Platinum. I will probably secure them better on my next oil change.

Did the same with my 17, but I have the regular halogen fogs. Single zip tie on each one fixed it and they haven't wobbled since.

I was thinking silicon sealer but will try the zip tie fix first. Thanks.

imo REMAN doesn't mean bad..at least it was assembled with new parts by a human :)...look at the cam tower leak fiasco on new trucks.
for what we know that REMAN transmission will last for a long long time.

Definitely rare for tundra trans failure. If it’s under warranty your getting a Toyota reman, may be new or a reman (but it will still say reman even if new). Hard to say, but they’re good. They do come with new torque converters.
My buddy had his sienna transmission replaced and Toyota corporate ended up giving him a 7 year 100k mike warranty on the trans. You can try and inquire about that

Private aircraft fly behind factory REMAN engines all the time. They are a cost effective solution when a major overhaul is due and are completely acceptable to the pilot community.

Comparing an A n P mechanic and an automotive mechanic is night and day. The private aircraft engines are maintained to a time/hour schedule for TBO/TMO and also have rigid break in schedules you have to follow. Well at least mine were. If they would of given me the specs for the REMAN as I had asked or even mileage/age on the core I would feel better. I bet Toyota does not xray the cores as they do in aircraft.
