I can actually feel mine clunk, but this is my 3rd 07+, all did it, much quieter though. A lot changed with the 18+.

Lucky you aren’t driving a Ford, you’d hear a clunk and then this...

First of all I’m surprised you came back and made a second post. I commend you for that.

You are thinking about it too much. There is nothing actually wrong with your truck, its normal. To prove that yours is really that loud, is it possible to get some audio of it? Maybe set up a go pro under the truck. These are good trucks. It’s not impossible to get a bad one here and there. But for the most part it’s a proven platform. You can’t expect Toyota to take it back, if things are functioning properly.

This is good advice. It is much more pronounced, and it has become a frequent topic recently due to that. Completely normal, again many changes, they changed spindles in 16 in anticipation of the system to have bigger caliper bolts, due to the stopping capabilities. Most of you would not believe how fast, and frankly violently these trucks can stop.

Mine is noticeable once after turning on the vehicle and on the first turn usually out of the driveway never comes up again. I told my dealer about it and they said it is a normal ABS check and one of them even rode in the truck with me to make sure.

I sometimes notice it (I think) I honestly don’t know how it could bother anyone, to the point of wanting another brand, especially that it’s functional and that there are much more serious real issues out there. To each their own.

I'm not sure if I'm feeding a troll or not.

But I am amazed that someone would complain about a vehicle operating as designed by making a noise ONCE everytime the vehicle is started. A consistent buzz, rattle, hum or something continuous I get. The slight thunk is pretty unobtrusive to me.

It concerned me until I understood what it was but that's it.

Here’s how I got over it. I took the truck out to the woods and got it FILTHY! Made me forget about the noise completely.

I noticed mine does it and I’m glad to know what it is now after only having it for about a week and a half. Doesn’t bother me and not loud. Just a little knock when first taking off in parking lots etc. I knew it was harmless as Throbbnation’s Tundra did it and he never had any trouble.

Don’t freak out, there’s another self test our trucks do. It buzzes under the bed for about a minute at night. Nothing on, no key in the ignition... just buzzes for no reason. Most people will probably never hear this unless you go out to the garage in the middle of the night to go talk to your truck. :anonymous:

The clunk noise from the ABS modulator pump self-test is pretty petty reason to hate on a vehicle, but probably better to move on to something else regardless of cost. You’ve already spent way too much to not be perfectly happy.

Easy solution. Get a racing exhaust from dirty deeds. You won’t hear it any more. BAM.

My 2018 makes a noise right about 6 MPH after startup. As a new owner hearing it, I also thought something was wrong.

After doing some research and confirming it happens once after every start crossing 6 MPH, I know it is the ABS self check so I am fine with it.

My "thunk" is minor, if yours is very noticeable it may be something else.
