2019 Tundra Goes Thunk

Yes that's right. My new 2019 Tundra goes thunk when I put it in gear and start to drive away. Brought it to the dealer, they had no clue. So I took the liberty to show them these forums. ABS check clunk. I wish I had noticed this during the test drive, I would not have bought a Toyota. Now I will have to be embarrassed every time I have someone in the vehicle. Guess this will just be the beginning of horrible new vehicle ownership.

You are embarrassed that your truck does an ABS self check? I have never once heard mine do it, because my doors lock at speed at the same time the ABS does a self check. Why did you put the poll up with Yes and I do as the options LOL? Mistake?

I find this funny because it’s not even something broken on the truck. And it’s not like it does it consistently while you’re driving. Just once! Better than Found On Road Dead

I have actively tried to hear it, and still haven’t.

 

LOL. Me too. I hear every little noise on my truck but still haven't heard the clunk. I've been thinking of turning the door locks off just so I can hear it one time. But I'm way too lazy for that.

 

huh I've never heard this on my 17.

my 06 always had a click sorta sound when putting in gear after backing out of driveway.

 

I have literally pulled over on the side of the road and got out to tuck the rear seatbelts into the clips so I wouldn't hear the rattle they make.

 

I literally almost turned that feature off a couple days ago just to see if I could hear it.

 

I wrap my passenger belt around the seat so there's not even a chance of that.

Careful if you get the ABS to stop making the clunk....these may be in your future.

I’ll be uselessly helpful, some are louder than others, my 18 will make you jump at times. It also goes off at a lower speed vs previous Tundras. How much? I don’t care.

 

No shit! My options always seemed wide until I owned a tundra. I would only drive a different brand truck if I needed a 1 ton. I don’t even consider other brands at the moment after owning this truck.

 

My trucks TRD dual exhaust makes loud rumble noises when I put it in gear and take off. I guess I have to be embarrassed in front of people now.....

 

None here, ever since members been talking bout it, I've had windows down to listen for, nothing

 

The newer tundras do an ABS self check. Mine does it every now and then usually when you first start the truck and make a turn immediately like out of your driveway.

 

I hear it every single time that I drive my truck. In no way does it bother me because I know that's doing a self check. I guess to each their own but there's no reason to be embarrassed about a safety feature on a vehicle. Not a very good 1st post on the forum if you ask me. But really I know nobody's asking me.

 

I think you should totally trade your truck in. Did you take it up with Toyota? Sounds like a piece of shit. Have you thought about seeing if someone will trade you their stock exhaust for yours?

 

I would have at least removed “hunter” from my username if trying to troll again...people are getting more and more lazy everyday.

Sorry about the poll. I'll try to change it to yes or no. As for the thunk. It is very loud and obvios. I did ask to have them take it back. They (dealership) refused. Instead they turned in a work ticket and are asking Toyota to respond. When I picked up the truck, this was my odometer reading. Certainly a bad omen.
