I believe it's the new freon, my 18's AC performs significantly worse than my 08 to initially cool down on a hot day outside.

I'll probably get a few rocks thrown at me but I'll say it, Toyota ac's suck ! Every Toyota that I have owned seemed to have low output. I'm comparing that to a Crown Vic and a Dodge charger that blew crazy freezer temps..

give it a chance to cool down, open windows first to vent interior, every vehicle seems different. all kinds of things cause different temps.
    good cooling.

I agree, the new freon regulations make the stuff we use now junk in comparison.

I get complaints from the back seat. Front is ice cold people in the back still sweating. not very much air comes out of 2 vents in the center console for them even on full blast in the front. they should have put some in the doors or something fro the rear passengers.

    I agree.
As a work around i route some of the cold air to the floor (when its not full of crap). I also point my wife's vents over her head when she's had enough of the direct air blowing on her. Cracking the back window also pull some of the cold air toward the back.

It gets pretty warm here in Tucson. My AC gets as cold or colder than any other vehicles that I have driven but it does take about 5 minutes to cool everything down since the truck is heat soaked from sitting in the Arizona sun in triple digit temperatures.

I have a 2018 Limited and the A/C works great, one of the best systems I have experienced in a vehicle. Freezes me out. Even the wife comments on how good the A/C works.

My 2017 TRD Pro AC is awesome. I'm in Central Texas and it's been hot and humid as hell - heat index in the 100's and it's cooled just fine. It could be that special "Pro" air they install at the factory. :woot:

The A/C in my 2011 works decently well, its not great though. Is it better than the A/C in a couple of my old Cadillacs, yes. Those cars the temp was super cold but they had weak blower motors(I think so they didn't make too much noise). My 2004 Tacoma, that thing would give you a brain freeze on a 105 degree day in 2 minutes flat. Same thing with the heat, it could be 5 degrees outside and I'd have to turn that knob to somewhere near the middle because I was sweating so much. Of course it was a reg cab truck, cab was so small that farting could be deadly in that truck.

My AC works just fine. I'm sure It helps that all my windows are tinted. I noticed a huge difference after having the front windshield coated with a clear UV wrap. Very cool and you don't even know it's their.

I must agree with you on this one. Toyota isn’t know for its superior AC. :rofl:I can’t remember any Toyota that I have ever owned having an AC that froze my “A” off. :annoyed:Nevertheless, I will only buy Toyota’s!!:benchpress:

One thing you all need to remember is if the refrigerant can't condense you can't remove heat thus it will take for ever to get cold.......Ram, 3500 both have fans mounted on the motor and don't move that much air through the condenser at idle where on the other hand the IS350 has a electric fan that depending on the outside temp moves directly to 100% cycle moving a lot more air through the radiator thus condensing the refrigerant better and pulling off more heat means a colder a/c. One thing I think that would help would be to install a electric fan that forces air through the condenser

The answers on this thread are all over the place.Especially the owners of 2018 Tundras. So many factors to consider (outsider air temp, humidity, direct sunlight etc.).Realistically you can expect your a/c to drop the temp inside your truck by 20 degrees compared to the outside temp.
FWIW,the a/c in my Tundra works just as well as the a/c in the 2008 Silverado that it replaced.

It’s also highly subjective... my wife is “frozen out” at 73F (her perfect temp at rest is 74, a dagree off in either direction and she’s too hot or too cold...) I like it more around 68-70. We aren’t saying what inside vs outside temps are or humidity level :)

I was surprised at the different responses as well. Did some of the 18s get awesome AC that works great while others didn't?

Well if we want to compare 18's on this, we could just hit a lot. Dangerous if you don't own one ;)

I thought the same about my '18 CM bc my '11 tacoma double cab's ac cooled the cab much quicker. Took it to the dealership and learned that the tundra ac systems blow air between 40-42 degrees F by spec. Mine blows between 40-41 degrees. Truth of the matter is that the tundra is just significantly larger. Put a thermometer in your vents and see what the temps are after a few minutes.

My 2013 is the same. Ice cold when driving around. Just idling it will take forrrrever to cool down. And this is in 90 degree south FL heat and super humid. Overall I say it cools very well though.

This is after about 3 blocks in 97 degree heat. I keep a screen in the windshield and have a dash cover that helps reduce the heating caused by sunlight on the dash.

Mine cools very well in the centra Texas heat. We have been pushing high 90s since may and I’ve been happy. I came from a 2015 f150 and it’s just as good if not better. No ac is going to cool down in a few min when vehicle has been sitting in 95+ heat....it’s gonna take a bit but the tundra doesn’t stay on max for long. Mo n law just bought 18 Camry and the tundra does about as good. I do keep windows cracked and a sunshield in it and drop the windows to get the heat out.

The AC in 2014 seems to work fine. It was 108 degrees today. 114 degrees this past weekend. We will have long periods of 110+ days here in SW AZ.

Takes a minute or two to start cooking things down but that's because the cab is around 130+ degrees. And that's with a sun shade in the windshield.

But the AC does fine for living 3 feet from hell.

One thing I have noticed in my 18 is that it takes much longer for cold air to be felt when using recirculation. I now only recirculate once the truck has cooled some

It helps to have a sunshade in the window so it doesn't have to try to cool a super heated dash.

My 2016 Tundra's Platinum AC (auto dual zone) doens't cool very quickly either, our 2014 4Runner SR5 Premium (single zone) cools much much faster in comparison. On the 4Runner I have to turn the fan speed down after driving awhile.

    Window tint... just starting
Interesting thread! I too noticed the A/C was subpar to other vehicles I have owned (Honda and Subaru). For me, what I noticed was that after a period of time it would not blow out as much cool air; almost as if it was variable cooling and is only controlling a certain cabin temp of 60-70. When I would increase the flow it would cool more.

I would say it is noticeable where I recognize when it’s happening, but it’s not bad enough where I am not comfortable.i tinted the windows pretty dark and that helps with the overall south Florida heat.

I have taken better steps to get mine to cool down quicker. It’s just a change from my old truck.

Rolling the windows down to get fresh air into the truck has helped a lot. Something I rarely did in my last truck. I’ll be getting a sunshade this week since my truck always sits outside. I knew I was crazy but I felt like having the dealer check it out.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!
