I have the TRD dual exhaust and it was put on by the dealer and i do not have the issue you are describing. Is the exhaust not hung right so its rattling on start up?

It only does it after sitting for a hour or more. Does not do it every time, Toyota field tech went over it with the service tech.

It has no other issues related to the sound, shifts perfect, drives perfect, etc.

Think if it was not hung right it would be more frequent?

    I don’t know?

I know, it it is probably frustrating but at least it is documented should something go wrong at a later time.

Have 2018 TRD Ltd Edition. I heard this clunky noise too every time I pull out of the driveway and out of parking lot and when I drive over a hump. I took it to the dealership and was told nothing to worry about...it's normal :(! WTF! It sounds like there's something loose underneath and it's normal? I was asked to make further observations and let them know if it persist. Not happy!

Thats a different noise then this post. The clunk in the post is withing the first 10 seconds of when you start rolling and will not happen again until you turn off the truck. Its a test. Yours if it happens when you go over a bump sounds like suspension

It also happens very similar to what others had described here. "I heard this clunky noise too every time I pull out of the driveway and out of parking lot" this is more consistent than the noise I hear when going over the hump.

That is normal. It’s the abs check.

Thank you all for your posts and input. I just bought a 2015 Tundra with 32,400 miles on it and I have heard the clunk every morning that I put it in gear and start rolling down the road. The clunk usually happens before the locks engage at 15 MPH. Got on here to see what type of issue that it may be. I feel a little more comfortable now.

Hopefully I can add some help from my experience with this issue.

Keep in mind that most folks here may be hearing the ABS check which ONLY happens when you turn your vehicle on from a “cold” start. Meaning you turned the engine off, removed the key completely and exited the vehicle. At 15 mph the ABS will do a self check one time and that’s it until you turn it off and do the startup process over again. It’s a safety check and nothing you can do about it.

    So...

2016 Platinum Tundra, bought used with 25,000 mi. Noticed it about a week after I started driving that while taking off from a stop light or as I was braking for a stop and the moment the truck was about to come to a complete stop; clunk. This would only have about 60-70% of the time. After 4 trips to the dealership and a Toyota FST coming to look at it, they were finally able to locate the noise.

In the engine compartment, on the firewall in front of the passenger side there was a wire harness that sticks out from the firewall and holds a large wire group. When the engine would crank and and twist from the torque, it would cause this wire mount to shift ever so slightly and cause a clunk that turned into Chinese water torture over time whenever I heard it.

The fix was applying some felt padding and zip ties to stop the piece from moving. To my astonishment it fixed it.

Now there was a second noise I had to deal with which I initially thought was a clunk but turned out to be a creaking sound from under the hood. Long story short, the air filter box. On a cold morning, accelerating from a stop I would hear a creaking sound, almost a clunk. First thought was suspension but thought about my initial clunk problem. Opened the hood and started grabbing around on more things to make noise. Sure enough, the air box would freak every time I moved it.

Solution: used some door weather strips laying around the house to prevent the top plastic piece (MAF side) from rubbingbwith the bottom (air filter) side. Problem solved.

I can understand frustrations as I was so angry that I just about traded it in for something else. Looks like I’ll keep it around for a while after all.

Pictures added to show the zip tie location and the air box weather stripping.

I also didn’t proof read this... oh well.

I have that same awful clunk on my 2017 Tundra. Usually when I reach around 5mph but also when I make a right turn from a dead stop it sounds like awful metal clanking underneath and I loose traction which is scary when you are pulling onto a highway. I've gone to the dealership twice and they haven't been able to duplicate the problem. I'm not gunning it .. just accelerating normally. Tonight when pulling onto the freeway from a stop I lost traction, the awful clanking noise (worse than normal) and then all of a sudden shot across the road. O was on flay, dry road. Very scary. I no longer feel safe in the truck.

I have the same issue and noticed it from day one. I asked the service advisor when I was in getting my alignment (250 miles). They said make an appointment and come back. This thread will save me from doing that (I have 450 miles on my truck now).

I called the dealership and they want me to leave the truck with them overnight so they can drive it first in the morning. Because of the awful traction on dry flat roads they are going to check the traction control system and have even mentioned the transmission so we will see what they find. I just want it on record that I have asked for the problem to be looked at more than once since it's a pretty new vehicle and I want to know since I am not a mechanic that it's safe and that everything is operating the way that it's supposed to.

Well I found it but the clunk happens around 6 mph and the doors lock at 15. I guess I’ll have to get used to the clunk...

Method Nv's, falken wildpeak 275.65.20 Dirty deeds exhaust, 5100's all around...nothin fancy.
Is there a sound/video of this clunk noise..in my 2016 1794 cm, hard for me to explain but sort of a thump feeling on my steering wheel when I break or accelerate, random speeds and happens randomly, I retorqued my wheels, had vehicle on lift and check if wheels were loose, checked brakes and it's all good,..cant seem to figure it out..but drives fine overall just bugs me..

    Same.

    Yes - same here.

-- How is this normal? LOL it's like Chevy Shake is normal or that the injectors making sounds like exhaust leak is normal.. I call BS. Someone didn't do their job correctly when engineering this vehicle.

200+ miles and it's doing the same thing. Too new for this. ROLLS EYES..

I probably have a clunk on my 18, but I've never noticed. I might be used to the Tacoma, which seems to make occasional random noises. I used to worry about the Tacoma noises, but only because I had a Land Rover Discovery before it.
