my 2018 has about 250 miles on it. I’ve noticed a “clunk” noise every time as soon as I start rolling after start up. I’ve read that it’s normal and that it isn’t. I’ve read that it is abs actuater or that it is front differential. Appreciate any info on it. I want to arm myself before going to dealer. Thanks!

Ok I appreciate it. I was reading where some don’t have the “clunk” but if it is that prevalent then I won’t worry too much. Thanks again!

I like that blue! Thanks for the info. I just wanted to validate what other sites were saying with this forum. I’ll just turn up the ac/dc.

I also have an '18 and have a clunk when first going into gear and start moving forward. only after starting though.

I have an appointment tomorrow with my Toyota service department to have it fixed. Not sure what the fix is but the manager explained that Toyota is sending out a tech to look at mine and several others due to something in the differential, but we will see.

Full disclosure, I work as an advisor for a dealership that owns the same Toyota dealership and know all the techs and service manager. Not sure what all is going on with it yet, but I will be there when they look at it and let you know if it is the same issue or not or even what they find.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
I have the clunk as well. It has been doing this since I first got it. I am not sure what it is, but I do not think it is a problem. My truck has 155k miles on it and every time after initial startup, it will clunk, once I put it into gear.

Its the ABS test. I think everyone (including myself) freaks out when you first notice it. I went to the dealership and drove another tundra and it did it also. In the manual somewhere it states that you could hear some noises when first started while it runs its tests.

Mine clunks when I hit 15mph and the door locks trigger. I can only feel it if my foot is on the brake pedal though.

Mine does the clunk after starting and first rolling out in Drive. Doesn't do it again unless I turn off the truck and start it again. I'm curious if the "fix" is to change programming so that it won't perform the ABS test.

I was being facetious. I’ve known too many people, even “professionals”, just disconnect things to fix a problem.

Same here on 17 CM and my service tech said it was the ABS as well. They told me it wasn’t an issue.

I've noticed the same thing with my 2018. Like others, it only does it right after startup and first rolling out in drive. Figured it had something to do with the ABS, so nice to hear that it is normal.

had the truck in the shop yesterday for the noise. The Toyota engineer picked over the truck and when they went to lunch, the tech and myself went for a ride. He disconnected the ABS module and the noise went away. So, my worries were for nothing as I suppose it's normal although it is annoying. The Service manager never contacted me like he said he would with the outcome. He just gave the keys to my wife (who is the HR for the company) and didn't say anything to her.
I was going to call the tech today to see if there was any type of fix for it, because been he has yet to see that and he has been a tech for 15 years.

I guess, for now, all is good.

Wow. Am I the only one upset about buying a brand new Tundra and having this clunk with a jolt in the pedals? It does not seem to happen on all vehicles, so there should be a fix... Been driving Tundras for over a decade without seeing this... Lemon law anyone?
