I have been getting just a bit better mileage than what sticker states. All hand calculated since I drove off lot with 5 miles. Sticker for the '14 is 15 mpg combines and 13 city/17 highway. My last three fill-ups have been over 17 mpg with combined driving. Best being 20 mpg. Never drove 100% city so don't know what that would end up looking like. Plus all I use is the crappy 10% ethanol.

I've been averaging 17.8 mpg mixed highway city driving. 4 days per week 42 mile one way commute with 44 stop lights along the way plus a few stop signs, yields and traffic circles that all slow one down. 2016 SR5, 4wd, 4.6L and I try to average about 50 mph where I can. There's lots of Tundra mpg info available on Fuelly.com if you're interested. My info based on 51 fuel-ups over 15,000+ miles.

    Oh the great debate continues:

    MPG

I also started using Fuelly App. I can log what is going on, what conditions the truck was in.

My average now is 14.7 mpg. Concidering what the truck is used for, where I take it, I can't be happier.

    image.jpg

    Not bad in my book.

One can definitely see when I tow or am doing some sort of work with my truck (usually, anything under 14 mpg for the tank I was hooked to something).

The 9-10.7 mpg tanks were very obvious I had this behind me:

I can see a stock Tundra getting "decent" mpg's , maybe as good as what is claimed on the sticker. It's common knowledge that car/truck mfr's tend to pad their MPG's. A lot also depends on altitude, gear ratios, topper?, big ass tires, city/highway mix of course. I can get as much as 16 so far on a long highway trip on cruise control, but my Tundra is not stock. As far as getting better MPGs than usually claimed to the sticker?? I'm not saying you don't or can't, but definitely in the minority: http://www.edmunds.com/fuel-economy/heres-why-real-world-mpg-doesnt-match-epa-ratings.html

It could be that Toyota is actually being a bit more truthful than other mfr claims. Mfr's appear to be improving on their "accuracy" of what is on the sticker. I'm just not worried about mpgs for the most part. The only time that was ever critical to me is when driving up the ALCAN hiway in late fall where there are literally no gas stations open. Very very few still open after summer tourist season. Definitely don't want to run out of fuel.

Pretty much nailed it Matt. Anytime you change aerodynamics/designed mechanics on anything, there is going to be an effect (positive or negative).

I'm glad this site members don't come on here a complain about getting 10mpg after a 7" lift and 35's and how they can improve. My answer is usually not the most liked.

Personally, I would like to do 3/1 lift, 35's and some other gas guzzling mods, but just cannot justify this with a vehicle that does 20-25k miles per year (not to mention towing as well). That is what toys are for. Something one can enjoy 15 % of the time when having fun, and not something one dislikes all the other 85% of the time.

I did gain about 1.5 mpg's when I had my tonneau cover. My mpg's got worse with the topper I have on now because of the drag/weight.

I'm fortunate to only have to drive maybe 4 miles to work, otherwise there would be no way I'd be driving around with Nitto M/T's. I'd just be pissing away expensive rubber. If I had to drive to C Springs everyday , for example, ... I'd would be probably running Michelins. I hauled a bunch of rock to my property on a 17' trailer last Memorial Day. Pretty sure going up La Veta Pass at 80mph didn't help with mpg's. heh heh

Edit: If I did have to drive to C Springs everyday I'd have to buy a Prius....(just fooling)

Toyota Camery SE or Lexus 430 would work.

I agree with you about justifying the gas mileage with the 35's or larger and I tell my self I'm a fool with running that set up, especially when this is my daily and we use this for road trips as well; we never take my g/f's car even though she gets 30+mpg. I've heard and read that with the factory supercharger can improve the mpg's by a few digits? I'd like to not have to buy premium fuel, I figure that price would balance itself back out. Anyone have any feed back?

<<<< S/C'd on 35" Prior to my new tires, I was running 295/70/18 with mpg around 17/18 mixed. Thar being said, I recent just got 35" M/T tires, and my driving hasn't been as frequent so it'll take time to adjust; also, I haven't re-calibrated mine with these.

My '14 5.7 with 30k is getting around 16 with 1/2 semi-city and 1/2 85mph freeway. Yes, you can do that legally here in Texas.

I gave up good gas mileage when I traded my 2016 Tacoma for this 2016 Tundra. (My choice). With a lift and bigger tires etc.... I'm happy as pig in shit to get 14.2 mpg. And its still rising. Each week it increases by .1
I have just over 1,800 miles on it now, and believe its learning how I drive and adjusting itself. I don't expect it to get 17mpg because of the upgrades and all, but I'm just happy to get over 14mpg.

I'm not even going to fret at all about MPG. My new Coopers are heavy as hell. Supposedly the heaviest in their class/size due to the extra belts and a ton of rubber. Although I did my brakes last year I'm now considering the best way to stop this beast. Most likely EBC pads and rotors.

My 2016 is 8 months old and just had the 20,000 mile checkup. My commute is 84 miles round trip mostly on state highways but with 88 lights that I probably get stopped at 1/2 of daily. My Tundra is the 4.6L V8 4x4 and I have been listing my fill-ups on Fuelly since the truck had 500 miles on it. My overall average MPG is 18.1. Two guys with 3rd Gen Tundra's are getting better with one guy averaging about 22 mpg. All with the 4.6L engine. From what I see on Fuelly the 5.7L engine is averaging 16 mpg on the high side but a few drivers are getting more. That's only a 2 mpg difference for the larger engine. Well worth it if you're doing heavy towing, going off-road or carrying heavy loads, none of which I'm doing. I also use Top Tier gas exclusively mostly purchased at COSTCO but sometimes at Shell or Exxon.

My 16 CM stock 5.7 best was 15.2. I threw on some Cooper STT Pros and Methods now I haven't seen anything over 14.1. But it's still a truck and the slight loss doesn't stress me because it looks cool and rides great! And I love this truck..

Rial cast wheels. Looking for TRD Pro grill with chrome surround
Only use the trucks MPG as an estimate. For the 1st 10,000 miles on mine it over reported the MPG by 5-7 tenths per gallon. By 15,000 reporting was only 1-2 tenths over and now with 20,000+ it's under reporting by 2-3 tenths per gallon. For accurate milage, do you own by hand or use a site like Fuelly.
