2014-2021 Front/Rear Anytime Camera Mod - FRAC Harness

So I just bought myself a Tundra Sport right before I went on vacation. My in-laws are killing me so I have been going over these forums with a fine toothed comb looking (planning) at mods and I gotta say this Tex.

You poor basterd.

Your success must be eating up all your spare time. Shame I live in Canada or I'd be asking to be on your list because this is possibly the most useful mod I have ever seen. If you ever decided to ship to Canada let me know because this thread makes me hot and bothered.

 

@TundraTex i got the harness the other day and went to install it today. Everything went in pretty well and when I tested the system everything was working fine. I then went to move my truck from where I was parked and tried to use the front camera and I got no response when I pressed it up or down. I figured I would deal with it in the morning and I put my truck in reverse, the rear camera turned on but then it cut off after a few seconds. When I tried to put it back in reverse my rear camera did not turn on. Now botH of my cameras are not working. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks

Based on what you’ve said, I would start by making sure all the connections to the switches and your Head Unit are secure and connected properly. If it worked when you first tested it, it should still work. When you try to select a camera or go in reverse, does the screen go black or just not switch at all?

Check the connections and get back with me. I'll give you a call if we need to troubleshoot further.

 

I will go out there and try that right now. I was also thinking of checking all the fuses. It doesn’t go black it just won’t switch at all. Thank you for you help!

 

OK. In addition to checking that the 24-pin and 28-pin connectors are fully seated into the Head Unit (unplug them and then re-plug them until they "click" and lock in place), If it's not switching at all, then I would definitely check the fuse. And make sure the camera select switch is wired per the instructions.

Issue was user error lol. During the installation the power wire which give power to the camera got pinched. So just a heads up to anyone installing, make sure to tuck all the wires completely to the the back of the HU.

Good job on the troubleshooting, @shhernandez74! This would have been difficult to track down over the phone without your keen eye on that end. I am already looking at ways to tweak the design to help prevent this in the future. The first step will be reducing the length of the power wire to help reduce the possibility of it getting pinched.

I don't like it when problems arise, but if it can make the FRAC Harness better, I'll deal with it.

 

Anyone find a lighted push/toggle button that matches the factory for the cams?

 

I had bought the one below but the font looks funny and the button its self looks weird. I ended up keeping the double throw switch included with the harness and for now that one will do.

 

Does this camera fit in the trd pro grill or anywhere else to put it

Just got harness. Didn't realize didn't come with camera. No big deal. But one other question. In the video it has a green wire comming off. Mine doesn't? Do I need this

Doesn't come with a camera so you can pick what you want/ like for your truck. There are a lot out there.... different taste for everyone.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see the ones people have/ bought....

 

So in the video to install the guy has a green wire that goes to a switch to turn it on while driving or off? Mine doesn't have this green wire. Do I need it to have it turn on while driving (seems kind of redundant to have two dif switches)

 

One of the switches controls the cameras.... the other controls if you want to be able to fully use HU while driving....

And where in the video are you talking about?

Do you not have the HU that has navigation and such?

 

No navigation

Hey @Alexstundra. Since you don’t have Nav, the green wires and ViM switch are not required. I didn’t put that in the video, but the written instructions I sent mention it.
