    134,034 miles.
4,773 miles on both fluids below.
Changed engine oil, and Trans fluid after peniscola trip.

Engine oil: Drained out 2.5 quarts of oil + filter. Put in 4.5 quarts of oil + new filter.
ATF: Drained out 3 quarts. Put in 3.5 quarts. Checked level hot. Right at top hot tick on dipstick.
    Corolla shift juice 1.jpg
    Corolla shift juice zoomed.jpg

Old shift juice came out, dark, and smelt burnt. Peniscola trip was rough on the little car. Will do another drain, and fill on Trans next oil change as it all should be routine driving with nothing insane like flo-rida ride.

Parents bought ‘02 Camry yesterday 4cly. Going to keep an eye on this thread for tips. Other than a valve cover gasket and lock actuator it’s clean and nice. I will do all the maintenance

@empty_lord i tagged you in a post yesterday in a different thread but wanted to find this one. Appreciate all the info fellas and knowledge of anything to look out for

OH someone did tag me! It disappeared yesterday for me!

those are good little cars. Biggest issues are power steering racks leaking, power steering return lines leaking, valve cover gaskets and timing chain tensioner leaks. Past that. There’s not a whole lot that goes wrong with them

Oil sample was not included in my email report from Blackstone Labs. I've sent a reply to them to see what's up. Here is the ATF report from them.

    BSL Corolla ATF.jpg

If you recall from a few posts up when I took the sample for BSL, the ATF smelled burnt, and shitey. Here's a quote.

He liked the corolla while I was in Knoxville. Spoke highly of it probably because he didn't buy it. Complimented the light bar saying "when you hit that toggle switch its like you're driving in the daylight again. I like it." When I told him I was putting a light bar on it he was completely against it. Funny how that works...

Was stopped on the western ky parkway for a semi truck wreck. It was gnarly.
    Screenshot_20210822-051727_Gallery.jpg

Parked on the parkway for about 20 minutes. Let the car idle for 10 of that before I realized I'd be there awhile. Finally got rolling and then thus little light cane on, and my butthole got real tight.
    20210822_052132.jpg

Still about 30 minutes out from petrol and 25 miles. Puckerin'

@empty_lord shifted to park at a drive thru in the car, and then shifted back to drive. Shifter suddenly got all loosey goosey. Think the cable came off inside the center console or at the transmission.

What are the odds that the cable broke?

Found the problem. Used field expediency, and car tools to remove parts and pieces in the drive thru line.

Looks like the little ball joint retainer clip thing is worn out. I stuck it back on for now just to get home.

Anyone got a link for the cable? I'm really not looking forward to running that. I think it would be easier to drill out the stud on the shifter and put a bolt on it.

I remember I ran the shift cable on the chevy. That job fucking sucked ass.

So after thinking about it, eye balling this video a time or two, and thinking on it some more. I've got a new plan.

All I really need to fix this issue is to retain the cable on the stud. Several ways of doing it, but I don't like the method used in the video. My original method seen in the quote was way too complex.

    New plan!
1.) Drill a hole straight down as seen in this screenshot from the video that I edited.
    20210825_025131.jpg

2.) Install hitch pin from assortment at work. The .062 diameter was the smallest "big one" we had. I'm taking five of them so I can cut one down if there is a fitment issues with items near the shifter.
    Hitch pin assortment .jpg

3.) Button the interior back up. Should be easy peasy. Will take center punch, and drill bits with me from work.

Below are pictures of the measuring process completed just a few minutes ago.
    Hitch pin measuring 2.jpg
    Hitch pin measuring 1.jpg

Here's my pilot bit. I'm taking two of these.
    Pilot bit 1.jpg

Here's the real bit I'd like to use if I have enough room on the shifter pin.
    Real bit 2.jpg

The assortment of bits. I put blue paint on the ends of the two 1/16" (pilot) bits for easier ID once in the car.

Started out pulling the center console out. Should have cleaned this nasty thing up, but I was tired. So meh.
    20210825_061725.jpg

That allowed me access to the shifter. I did vacuum up the carpet some before final reinstall. The shifter has four 12mm bolts, two wire clips, two wire loom clips, and two cables. No pics of each step, sorry.
    20210825_061728.jpg

I removed the shifter, and used the trunk as work bench to drill the first hole with my pilot bit. I reinstalled the shifter, and tried it out. I decided there was too much slop, so I removed it again. I drilled another hole pointed out by the dot with an arrow. This was much better.
    20210825_063803.jpg

While the shifter was out, I gave it a mediocre wipe down, and painted the shift indicator light blue. Paint Pens Rule.
    20210825_064030.jpg

Did clearance testing. All shift positions pictured below. I know that "Low" looks like the hitch pin is hitting the plastic, but it isn't. Just the angle of the picture. Also observe the over drive switch wire going up the shift handle with each change in position. It's that dark gray one going up.

    20210825_071544.jpg20210825_071551.jpg

Did a test drive before reinstalling the center console. All shift positions work. Overdirve button still works too. :D

Amen!! Talk about a heart attack! Super proud that you thought quick and came through with a solution. Even though that meant taking the whole thing apart in a drive through line

That method works for sure. And is very, very bulletproof. But two questions.

One - shouldn't you stack some washers between the pin and eyelet to reduce some of the slop and play? Wouldn't want that plastic eyelet piece to crack.

Two - I feel you could've achieved a similar goal using a regular washer against the plastic piece, and a starlock washer towards the outside, pushed on until it locked. Only say this b/c it would've saved time and effort. Solid option, definitely not as bulletproof as what you chose.

Starlock washers are used all over in the automotive and electronics industry. These are often used to hold bed topper latches intact. A-Zon sells variety packs of them cheap, super handy to have on-hand. Essentially, you push the washer onto any post slightly larger than the hole in the washer, and the tension and direction of the cut flanges prevent the washer from sliding back off.

PS - Simple Green and a medium-stiff-bristle larger brush and toothbrush will have your interior parts gleaming with minimal effort. Just hose off after and you're golden. Also works on carpet stains if you remove the carpet from the car.

The corolla virus claims another mammalian victim. A racoon. It was scared shitless as a semi had just passed over him. It got its tail sqaurshed by the semi and was panicking.

I tried to hit him square, but he was all over the place. Caught him on the drivers side. I heard him rip out the last of my splash shields.

Oncoming traffic prevented me swerving. Not to mention the driving rain.

Almost time for new tires for the corolla. Never bought tires for a car before so open to suggestions.

Starting to get wetter, and potentially icy sooner than later.

I'm assuming the window track/roll up mechanism is similar to the Tundra.

Drivers side window rocks forwards/backwards when rolling up or down. Will need to take the door panel off, and see what's up.

Last thing I need is for my window to come off the scissor mechanism, and fall down into the door at this time of year.

Any advice on what to expect or to look for is welcome.
