Great write up @Sunnier ! You covered it all

Oncoming vehicles will be a bit annoying, it might happen, usually Jeeps who shockingly tend to move out of the way. You do need to keep your eyes peeled for the occasional motorcycle rider as well.

The entrance to Bee Canyon does have a shooting area, so don't be alarmed when you see people with guns.

The water crossing is a very cool spot to stop and hang out. If you go a bit further there's my favorite camp spot. Depending on how many people you have it might be a better spot to stop, and has a table. Maybe send one ahead to check it out and then get the others because it is narrow and would be frustrating trying to relocate the entire train of Tundras.
(blue circle is water crossing, camp sites are now pinned on google maps)

@nishibot my gf didn't like riding shotgun with the cliff either  Just take it slow, she'll be alright!

I have the calendar marked. I am going to try to make this one since I missed the last run in January. Would be great to meet some on you guys who make this forum tick.

I was just looking at this trail last week to take the family up.

Anyone thinking of staying overnight in Idyllwild?

The water crossing can make for some cool pictures too!

Just be courteous and not go through the deep part. It impacts the drainage for the creek when people go through the deep part.

Hi, Daniel, I hope you and your family make it out to join us! :)

Alas , I also have to make it home Sunday evening because my sidekick has school on Monday :ballchain:. We'll be up for staying a while after the run, if anyone wants to grab a bite or a beer though!

There's other places to wheel nearby too, in case anyone wants a 2nd helping after Bee/ Pine Cove. I just planned this one run, so those of us with long drives home can get off the mountain before dark.:turtleride:

There are many places to stay in idyllwild though, lodging or camping, and probably super reasonable this time of year, on a weeknight.

And it's a 25-30 minute drive to the end of the trail so you're not too far from supplies if you run out of ice and margaritas :drunk::rofl:

If you mean, what should you buy to wrap your truck? Yeah, blue painters tape or even the cheap-ass off-white no-name painters/masking tape we grew up with. It only has to hold for a couple hours.

I'm not sure where to get thick paper-- I'm thinking of that bulk white used in schools and business, that comes on a roll. Probably could use the 6mm plastic HD sells in the painting section. Could use brown shipping wrap paper, whatever. Haven't figure out how to dispense it though.

Hahaha! I'm picturing it; "Sunny's First Mod" contribution to the Tundras.Com forum will be a bed-mounted wrapping paper dispenser! Hmmmm, I like it!

@JDL17CM4x4 I'm not sure how ready for self-contained camping you are, but it looks like you could drive up with us, checking out the camping options along the way, then head back to your chosen spot after we eat and visit in Idyllwild.
    Hahahahaha! @Marty McFly's variation to @Sunnier's first mod. #winning

If I can get work off Monday I may camp up there. Would be no problem staying up there alone with the lady. She loves to explore. Good idea to just check out spots along the way. Now just fingers crossed my son doesn't have a soccer tournament that weekend. I will check tonight!

I'm pretty sure that's what I got, and I may get another at some point. Nice to have a spare so we can loan one or use it for family camping.

When you're playing on Amazon it's easy to get drawn in to accessories. I bought the programming cable :notsure::spending::crazy:
    and haven't needed it.

A couple of us showed up at the last meet, and @eccracer104 showed us how to program in 1... 2... 3 seconds. (You can buy mine if you want. )

This run looks awesome! What would you say is the total time form getting there at 10:aam to the camp spot? Then exiting the trail to get back on the road? I am coming from Torrance and so this is more doable than the Anza trip and good timing too! Already got a HAM and ready for @Sunnier to wrap my entire truck in paper! haha, love it.

@JDL17CM4x4 that was the radio I just got from the Mrs. for my birthday(might get to finally use it). And I remember @eccracer104 mentioning these were super easy to program.

I am 50/50 right now but will let you all know soon on that date!

I always forget to set a timer from the bottom to the camp spot. If I had to guess, just cruising up the trail ~1.5 hours. Maybe a little less.

Yep, for those little HAM radios you want to turn it on and have it say "frequency mode" if it says "channel mode" click the red button and it'll switch. From there you simply type in the frequency the group is using and that's that! I always lock mine so I don't accidentally change something while wheeling. Bottom right button has a little key icon on it, hold that down at the radio will say "lock", same procedure, hold that button down to unlock it and the radio will say "unlock".

You'll see there are two frequencies able to be on your screen freq A and B. It doesn't matter which one you use and the blue button will switch between them.

Hey @Sunnier what did you mean by high clearance? Would are stock tundras be high enough? Or did you mean like a lift?

Nope, no lift required. One guy posted about the time he made this drive in a 2WD Civic. Another guy did the video posted above in a Subaru Forrester.

So our stock Tundras should be way over-qualified for this run. I picked this route because, by numerous accounts and as recently as last weekend, there are no big hazards and it will be a great place for friendship- and confidence-building. You aren't the only one more willing than ready to 4x4. We'll all go slow and learn together. (Plus, even though it's meant to be "easy", several of us carry rescue equipment just in case.) It'll all be good!

Just as Mike promised before our recent Anna-Borrego meet-and-play, if we encounter something we can't do in a Tundra, we won't attempt it. It turned out that the single top-most fun in a very fun day for me, was squeezing my BFT's hips through a very narrow passage. I did it with nannies turned on, and went from holding my breath to laughing. Super fun!

I still need to learn to post video to YouTube so I can post a couple I made that day. The video is good, but the audio is very entertaining!

Our 3rd gen Tundras' hoods look great... but are impossible to see over, so it seems wider than it is. We can take turns getting out and spotting for each other. (And taking pics!) Which is one reason it's nice to have radios. We'll definitely do that on the narrow stretch along the the drop-off, where the video shows a rock on the inside part of the roadway. We'll leave a good reaction gap distance between vehicles. It will all be okay.
