Good to meet you all! Left early to get back to Orange County. A buddy had somewhere to be at 4 so we didn't stop for pizza. Hope everyone enjoyed the trip.

Here's a little shot before we took off.

Whew! Tundras are BIG :muscleflexing:. I definitely vote for breaking into smaller groups (with separate radio frequencies for each), going forward. Lots of good teamwork though! (Can anyone say, "TITAN"?!! :crapstorm:
I hope we'll see you again; thanks for coming out!! :)
Cool! Thanks for being patient on this "easy" trail made moreso by our slow pace. Couple of you guys have some great rigs. I hope we can follow behind you guys somewhere "less easy" sometime.

You are always welcome! The first time is the most stressful because you don't know what to expect from your beautiful new truck, your untried off-road driving skill, not to mention the weirdos you're headed out with :anonymous:.

Props to you for showing up and going all the way. Keep us posted on those pinstripes. When I licked your truck (um..., friends reassure new friends), it all looked like dust only. Keep us posted, new Inferno Tundra homie!!

Pssst, Guys, he called us "comforting". I bet no one in the NorCal group gets props for being "comforting".

How's your truck, Bud? Oh, wait...
Whew, looks like he's already on board for the next meet-and-play, @Marty McFly!

socalitundra958,infernotoyo the first time I went off-roading was with this truck in Tundras to Sedona last year. I had N-fab steps that the dealer put on, well I messed them up (more from my lack of skill) also had some pin striping. I was very stressed. But If you put on a good coat of wax before most of the pin stripping will buff out. The steps on the other hand I replace with rock sliders, because I don't have the skill to have steps and it adds extra protection. Initially I was scared to drill the frame and they are (were) just glorified steps. But in the next few days I am drilling the frame and making them sliders. Thank-you guys for coming out, it is a great experience and a wonderful time. Buying this Tundra and going off-loading has really changed our family life. The wife and kid love it and we go camping/off-roading frequently.

OK on another note. This comes from talking with Sunnier at the end of the night, monthly subscription boxes, and my (limited) experience off-roading. I took an off-roading class with http://www.4x4training.com (I'm not endorsing them just giving an example) to tighten up the nut behind the wheel. It was a good beginner class (I knew next to nothing) I learned some techniques. But one limiting factor I saw was it was me, another full sized truck and 8 Jeeps. Granted techniques can be used across all vehicles But, the line I take will be way different than a jeep. anyway sunnier and I were talking about this fact and that we need a Tundra class or at least have a large majority of Tundras in the class. They also offer "recovery classes" I'll get to this in a bit.

The second thing comes from a monthly off-roading mystery box. I received recovery straps that were rated at 6K. That doesn't meet my needs for the Tundra.(sorry, I've been drinking since I've been home, so my grammar and calculations may be off) The minimal I need would probably be around 18K. This got me thinking about what recovery gear I would need to get myself out, or at least have with me. We have a lot of new people(myself included) getting together and off-roading with minimal recovery gear. Theres probably a good chance there will be a meet with no experience recovering and someone gets stuck. We might have the right gear but we might not know how to use it. Additionally we might have the wrong gear and someone gets hurt.

Something for us to think about. If we could get around 10 of us to take a recovery class like offered by 4x4 training. We could force the class to be about recovering full sized trucks, learn the proper strength of recovery straps, winches, etc that WE need. (not Jeeps) We can build our group knowledge and safety. That being said The earliest I could do this would be the fall. Or if anyone has a different class we could take I think it would be beneficial to us all. There are lots of cool and expensive toys out there but, If we don't know how to use them we may end up causing more harm then good.

I'd be up for this, if we can get enough Tundras (or Humvees, maybe Hummers) involved that instructors have to teach to the width and long wheel-base of the Tundra. Fall would be earliest for me too.

Even though it's money for something not mods, it'd be pretty good insurance to preserve our investments in our trucks, as well as our safety. Even if we try to stay on "easy" routes, anyone can get stuck. That might not be a big problem but attempting to "snatch" a rig with the wrong line or hitch could get someone killed. There's a lot we could learn more about. Great idea!

Okay, that's twice, @Marty McFly. :bananadead: Do we need to take this to PM? :argue:

Anyway, side-kicks gotta learn little stuff before they can be sensei masters. I thought he showed willingness to help out, recovered well and maintained a positive attitude, and was a pretty good navigator.

Side-kicks are the best. Kooper was so proud of himself that he put all the valve stem caps on by himself.
