    Just drive one

How many of yall can honestly say you felt your vehicle become more than a machine, but an extension of yourself? 1st gen Tacoma and 1st gen Tundra have become one with me. Most other trucks are a toil to drive IMHO

I’ve driven one many years ago actually

I’m going to take it back one generation further though and say 3rd gen Pickup. Simplicity and reliability at its finest

Toyota wasn't immune to all of the QA/QC problems every other car manufacturer has endured during the pando with supply chain issues, part shortages, labor shortages, and everything else that led to garbage being sold. I think we're going to be hearing about problems with early 3rd gens and every other 2021-2022 and even some 2023 models for many years to come.

I thought he meant the unnamed pickups, but according to the hilux wiki, '91 would be 5th gen...i dunno.

    He's talking about the pickup/hilux...
But the 3.slow was trash. The 22re is bullet proof

More About the 1991 Toyota Pickup

It is a fifth-generation Hilux, although they weren't sold under that name in the USA, but rather the simple Toyota Pickup name.

Fun fact: in 1995 you could buy a 95 pickup or a 95.5 Tacoma

I'll take the 1996 Toyota pickup, please. All power, but manual trans, and the smallest 4-banger possible.

Depends what market you’re in and what its called. Here we didn’t really get the first 2 generations of hilux and when they finally did start bringing them over in mass they just named it the Toyota Pickup. There were also some under the skin differences between the Pickup and the Hilux which do differentiate them pretty well (LHD, no double cab, no diesel, all IFS)

Technically speaking though it is both 5th gen Hilux and 3rd gen Pickup. I’ll take it being called a Hilux any day over it being called a tAcOma :duh:

@DJenerated mine is 22re powered but I don’t think the 3.0 is really that bad. Yes if you don’t maintain them they will blow head gaskets but with a good owner they are pretty damn tough still

*Side note, anyone else’s multiquote function not working? I can select multiple posts to quote but when I go to insert them nothing pops up

    Lies...

Worst engine/vehicle I've ever owned. That 3.0 is an absolute dog. I still loved it though. This is when I fell in love with old Toyota 4x4's.

5vz is the engine of the gods and the sole reason the Tacoma pwns the pickup

Hey it worked this time! Hopefully it stays working

if you think the 3.0 is a dog never drive a 22re. So slow. Also, what transmission did you have? Makes a big difference in how responsive they were.

my old 3.0 5 speed with no cat killed my buddy’s v8 f100 in a drag race. Thing moved really well actually
well that’s an understatement. That’s like saying the supra is better than a camry lol

I’m not saying its Toyota’s best engine, I’m just saying its not as bad as people like to say

Actually, they weren't all IFS. Up until 86 they were still solid front axle.

You are correct about the 3.0 however. My 89 had the V6 and I never had a single problem with it from new until I traded it in on a 96 T100. I maintained it well, but I also beat the shit out of it.
