I see them becoming NLA in the not so distant future. I want to snatch one up just in case I do add any of that crazy stuff down the road. And if I don't ... I've got a NOS Denso 130 reman alt I can sell at a premium :D

My replacement radiator arrived and it's broken in the exact same spot. This time they didn't even package it with any paper like the last one. The box isn't beat up. This is solely Rock Auto's fault. I do not trust them to get it right the 3rd time so I guess I'm gonna have to get raped by the dealership or try one from a local parts store. Maybe NAPA? The O'Reilly radiator in my truck has been fine since I installed it in 2019.

Looks like NAPA sells Denso replacement for $211. $121 more than Rock Auto for the same part. FML.

    $440 at the Dealership

I've gotten 2 rads from rockauto and never had a problem. I tried to get one from scamazon a while back and I had 2 that were damaged right out of the box in a row. Rockauto usually does good with theirs, must have just been unlucky for you.

I mean when there is almost zero packaging inside the box, I'd say it's less about bad luck, and more about negligence. Just an ole radiator flopping around inside. But the plastic nipple also seems like a really cheap and weak design by Denso. I could be wrong but I think the ones on our trucks are metal.

How much are you losing on shipping (the first one they sent you) by returning it?

I went with Amazon. They did the same thing but the 2nd shipment was okay.

How many does it take before someone (loss dept) goes "Hey, could we possibly add some extra packing reinforcement right here?"

Do you think you could reattach the nipple with some JB weld, the stuff made for plastic? I've had really good luck with that stuff. Or maybe could you tap threads into the hole and use a brass nipple?

They have paid return shipping both times. I'd be pissed if they were charging me.
I was wondering the same thing.
I mean maybe? Do I really want a JB welded radiator nipple? No. This is my wife's car. I'm not leaving her stranded somewhere over this. The hole is not level or clean at all. I don't see how tapping new threads would work.

I ordered one from Napa which I'll inspect in store before I leave. If it's fucked up I'll roll the dice on an off brand. I'm skeptical that Denso is really that much better than some of the others. The units O'Reilly sell have a lifetime warranty.

Now that I've got the lift done, I've been thinking of some little things to take care of. One of the things I've been thinking about is painting some of the rock chip spots on the hood, front of the cab roof, and at the rear on the body at the corner down below the tailgate (this is the worst spot and has a little ... rust... I know). Most of them have no or light rust except the one spot where the rust layer is building up a little. I was thinking I'd scuff it up/sand the rust off then use this spray https://www.jbtools.com/duplicolor-...eNkjQMtP5fQvckP7msEq_-Cm4C98ltJIaAmXcEALw_wcB and just spray some in a little cup and use a paintbrush. Then maybe put a little clear coat like this https://www.jbtools.com/duplicolor-...l-can/?refSrc=43335&nosto=productpage-nosto-8 over the top with a brush. Anybody done something like this? Success?

I ordered from these folks a few years ago for the Impreza. Color was well matched. If you're going the small brush route, just buy a bottle and not the spray can. 2004 Toyota Tundra Colors of Touch Up Paint

Edit: I reread it. You'll be spraying the bed

I've repainted a ton of rust spots on my truck. You can tell that those spots have been repainted if you really look, but most of the time you'd have no idea. Especially in direct sunlight. All of the links to my repainting work are grouped in the first post of my rebuild thread here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/2000-limited-trd-refresh-repair-story.116395/

Nearly all of the products I've used were from Automotive Touchup, and they are kinda pricey, about $15/can, but 100% worth it. https://www.automotivetouchup.com/?...hCnVJT4_G1qktAngghwV3BSr_ts2xDs8aAqVREALw_wcB I also used their color matched paint to fill in scratches and rock chips, and it works great too. It's like an oversized nail polish bottle.

I definitely wouldn't use a brush for the clear coat- I was able to buy SprayMax 2k clear coat from the same company, and it sprayed on super nice. I was able to feather out the clear on top of the existing stuff too.

    Here's a before:
    bed1.jpg

    And after:
    bed3.jpg
    bed 2.jpg

I can even give you step-by step instructions too if you'd like. It's really quite easy and simple once you break it down into steps.

Ah - yeah I didn't even know there were little bottles. I'll prob need to spray some pots and spot fix others.
Wow - dang man that looks great! Yeah most of these are small enough that I'm really just trying to prevent the rust more than make it look better, so I bet the little nail polish brush would be great.

I don't need a full step by step, but what abrasive tool did you use to clean it up? I'm thinking a little rubber abrasive dremel tool or something.

Ah, yeah then you could probably use a brush. Definitely check out the stuff from Automotive Touchup though.

I think a dremel would work great. I used a 2" random orbital sander for most of my work, but that'll be way too big for you I'm guessing.

Oh and @FirstGenVol Serra of Birmingham is having 20% off sale right now; you may check if your local dealer(s) are also running it. Ends in 48hr I think.

Find the touchup, and my process here - works great for chips: https://www.tundras.com/threads/wha...-gen-tundra-today.2558/page-2002#post-3593985

That spot in the rear corner was very rusted.

Doesn't appear so. That sale is for Toyota "accessories". Unless I'm looking at the wrong Serra website.
I don't trust anyone else to ship it to me undamaged at this point. Not worth a 3rd return.

Yeah here’s the main spot that is making me a little concerned. Only on the passenger side, nothing at the same spot on the drivers side. And yes, it does in fact rain in Texas. IMG_1854.jpg

Fixed an identical spot on my truck. Just make sure you clean it well and use a good primer, and your paint should stick just fine.
