About a year ago I was sitting at a picnic table around dusk. The table was in an area that had a 7' block wall at a 90° angle and a large security gate that was open, essentially containing me in a small wedged area. I saw motion out the corner of my eyes and looked to see a skunk standing right in front of me. I could have reached out and petted it like a cat. My heart started pounding and my pulse raced, but I sat there motionless. I could see him/her making eye contact with me. It stood there for ~ 10 seconds before finally slowly walking away. I'll never forget it

When I was still living in SF, I was letting the dogs out one last time for the night at about midnight, hear some rustling out in the bushes, and one of the dogs comes rushing back in freshly sprayed. We were up until 3am washing that poor guy over and over with every tomato based product we had in the house. Eventually put him to bed in his crate in the opposite end of the house because I couldn't tell if it was him or the scent was just burned into my nostrils at that point.

    Dog gone.

I'm grateful they're not more common here. You're more likely to smell someone smoking some dank skunk 1,000s of times over before you see a skunk. I see coyotes, foxes, deer, racoons (regularly), possums, armadillos, and all kinds of other critters. Supposedly they're here in GA and I occasionally smell one out on the road, but I don't recall ever seeing one in all my decades on the planet.

Work nights out in the country and you'll see em plenty.
They liked to walk in a zig zag motion in front of my patrol truck when I was on dirt roads at like 3am. They wouldn't get out of the way either, just going slow. Pretty sure I accidentally ran a few over. I just remember once or twice hearing em squeak as I stalked them, waiting for them to veer off enough for me to go around.

Has anyone had any problems with the shifter being hard to put into D/2/1? I haven't had any issues whatsoever until this past week. Shifting from P > R > N is smooth as always, but getting it from N > D is physically hard to do. It feels like I'm going to break my column shifter sometimes. Currently sitting at about 208k. My truck has no problems shifting gears when driving, so I am not sure if its just the shifter itself, the actual trans, or something else.

Oh, and not to point the blame finger at anyone, but it seems like this problem started happening after my dad pulled my truck out of my driveway to park it on the street. When I went to drive my old tundie the day after my key wouldn't turn over, as in it physically wouldn't turn over - and no the steering wheel wasn't locked. I put my key in about 5 times, flipped it around and had to jiggle it a bit to get it to turn. DARN IT POPS WHAT DID U DO

I would pull off the housing to see what’s obstructing it so it isn’t moving smoothly. It isn’t too hard to do.

Hello, new Toyota owner. My daughter just got a 2003 Toyota tundra for her first vehicle. It’s almost at 260,000 miles. I did an oil change, new brakes, new spark plugs and coils and other little stuff. Any other recommendations?

also it was running with oil gauge 3/4 of the way to H. And now when running it goes from middle to 3/4 to high and at idle drops to the mark before low. So 1/4 to the bottom. Any ideas? No ticking no lights on for the dash.

The oil gauge should fluctuate in relation to RPMs and driving. Sounds like you're good. If it wasn't moving at all then I'd say you have a problem. Also check this out: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

Check the linkage to make sure nothing is bound up under the truck.

Also, see if this is your problem: https://www.tundras.com/threads/column-shifter-becoming-sloppy.148675/#post-3754935

Not THAT specifically, but check the cable and bushing, it's easy to get to.

It went down on 11/12/24 best I can tell. Their SSL certificate (for security) expired and site was down. Someone renewed and installed the SSL cert on 11/16, but the site is still down, like there's a server error. I've been using www.amayama.com in the meantime to look up parts. Not as easy for me, but ... it works in a pinch.

So I been having a hell of a time trying to find some 2.5 diameter rear shocks for my 06. Anybody got any leads? I'm not really looking for reservoirs, just something with decent travel, that will pair nicely with a shock relocation, and replace my B5160's. Black Friday sale would be a major bonus.

You've got to figure out the issue before it's too late. You will break the shifter assembly if you pull too hard.

That's definitely what I'd prefer, to match my coilovers. After some research in the wee hours, I did notice that despite most not listing any 2.5 rear shocks for our trucks, that a few did list them for second gen Tacomas and first gen Tundras. So that opens a new door I hadn't considered before.

Learn about compressed lengths of shocks vs extended length, set up your leafs and bumpstops correctly, and you can run 2nd gen rear shocks. My Toytecs that I ran for years were 10" in the rear and now my current Fox's are 8".

Doesn't necessarily matter. Both have the same top/bottom mounts as our trucks. Figure out the compressed and extended lengths of the shock and it's not too hard to adjust the rest.

I figure I'll stick with the guidelines for the archive garage shock relation kit. Relocation is the goal. Maybe not anytime soon, unless I find some deals. Main concern for the next few months is rebuild the front end and add a leaf to the Alcans.

"MAX recommended shock collapsed length is ~19"
-NOTE: DC has a 1" higher frame bumpstop bracket which allows 1" more bump travel than AC, but also limits collapsed length of shock
-Strive for 12" travel shocks, aftermarket springs hit 12" shock travel measured non-articulated
Kit shock tabs built to standard 1.5" wide with 1/2" eye bolt.
-Good Value: Fox Performance series 2.0 x 12.1", only 18.35" collapsed: (Remote resi cannot mount to shock)
    https://accutuneoffroad.com/product/fox-2-0-x-12-performance-series-remote-reservoir/
    -Premium: Fox Performance series 2.5 x 11.48" piggyback is a great premium option, *only 18.35" collapsed*, call AccuTune Offroad (619) 722-8555 , AccuTune P/N: FOX-883-26-096-ARG-1GT .
-Standard universal 2.5 x 10" King and Fox are around 18.5" compressed. 2.5" x 12" King remote reservoir with "OD top cap" option may fit, Fox may require longer axle tab."

The shocks used for the Archive relocation have double eyelets instead of the top mount Toyota uses, so unless you're installing the relocation kit, I would rather find specs of the shocks you're actually going to use.

Yeah i meant that I'm just shopping for deals. I know my long game plan. For now my 5160's are fine. Bit of I see a hot deal on what I want for down the road I'll jump on it. Prices only get higher these days. Miggt as well jump on a deal while I can if I see one

Ooh I just remembered I saw something that converts an eyelet to a stud a while back. Probably won't go that route, but it's an option if I were to decide not to wait for relocation. But I'm going to wait.
