    Hey good for you.

Here's some reply to your questions and a way to check for hub and rotor runout with a possible solution by indexing. If the rotors have excessive runout and are new can likely just return them and replace. Have been able to return used rotors with verified runout and the pads after about a year at LAPS under warranty. Used the money to swap in OEM.

all the wiring is already there. You’ll need the fog light assemblies, the correct relay and the switch. It’s all plug and play (no splicing or hackery) and will take you no more than 30 minutes to complete.

Reality will probably be - Dad keeps his current truck, Mom gets a new RAV4 or Highlander. The new car always goes to Mom and that's okay.

We've got a generator at work. It auto-starts every Friday, runs for 30 minutes. The installer comes out once a year & pokes around. propane. That's all the maintenance required.

But I will say after 3? years, something is off. I can hear that something is off. No one else can hear it which boggles my mind - sounds like a cement mixer full of misc. metal hardware from Grandpa's work bench to me. Service guy says everything is fine. I dunno - cement mixer full of bolts to me.

Thankfully my wife still likes our 12 year old RAV4. She would rather take a nice vacation once a year than have a car payment.

EDIT: it was a TDI so the mpg’s were insane. Literally drove from Destin to DFW on one tank of diesel.

The baby hormones haven't entered the brain yet. Take the long view.

Honestly, I think it's the baby stroller, the diaper bag, the car seat that seems awfully close to the door.... that makes a perfectly good car become old & small.

Her snooty coworker drives one of those Porsche SUV's and got in our RAV4 last week. She told Kelly "you need a new car".

Fuck that. We're going to Switzerland next year for our 10 year. Gonna road trip through Italy and Austria too.

The St. Bernard pass and the roads leading up to it from the Swiss side, and out of it on the Italian side are really awesome. Work made me make that commute a few times to work with the Italian govt in a military bunker, commuting from Lausanne to Milano. It was precarious in the winter, one time I got sandwiched between a couple of trucks on the way up, a few feet of snow on the ground, it sucked. I was super impressed with how painlessly they managed to get up and down, but spending an hour with diesel fumes engulfing my little Opel rental sucked ass, as they drove half the speed limit.

Dirt Deeds injectors, Addco rear sway, AEM dry flow air filter, last ever set of Stan's Try-Y headers, Borla full custom exhaust, front level, wheel spacers, and lots of electronics.
15 year generator tech veteran and Cat Electric Power Master Tech here. 30 minutes no loaded runtime for an exercise is too much. For a diesel that would cause a lot of wet stacking and performance issues. For a propane unit, with a block heater or oil heater if aircooled, 10-15 minutes should be all it needs weekly.

Depending on size of the gen it's either a 3,600RPM unit or 1,800RPM unit. For a stand-by rated gaseous emergency gen it should be standard practice to replace spark plugs annually and be gapped to specific fuel type. Different gasses provide different BTU content and may need a tighter gap. 3,600RPM gens are more sensitive to plug condition.

Depending on experience and apathy level of the tech they either base the assessment of 'working fine' being it produces good: voltage, frequency, oil pressure, and coolant temp is within range. Since unit is natural gas I would suspect an annual load bank isn't being performed. A load bank is an annual generator stress test performed due to life safety requirements (NFPA and/or JCAHO).

A load bank on the generator would reveal any potential problems better than an annual oil change and inspection could reveal.

Recommend your service tech perform a diagnostic load bank or at the minimum a building transfer test to see how the gen performs under load. This would reveal the source of bolts in a concrete mixer noise. Could be something as simple as a muffler heat shield rattling. Or could be flywheel bolts walking off the gen end. I would need more info on the machine to give further arm chair quarterback opinions.

Edit: saw your profile is SW CT. Assuming southwest Connecticut. Your gen does need a block heater or oil heater for your region. This component will keep the engine around 110*F until it's running. Without a block heater it's like jumping in your truck on a cold morning, starting it, and immediately stomping the throttle to 60MPH. Without the engine being a little warmed first, this can cause a ton of premature engine wear.
