1st gen 2004 rear differential replacement/repair

    2004 tundra 4 dr 4x4
    my 2004 4x4 is leaking from the rear end. Seems to be a common problem. do i just search around and try and find a replacement? What have you guys done?

    If it is leaking from the bottom of the diff, I would suggest draining the diff and sanding the spot where it was leaking from to clean it up. Then apply some jb weld to plug the hole. That should cover the pin holes that the leaks are usually from. It really depends on how much money you have to spend because a brand new diff will set you back a bit unless you find one from the junk yard. You also have to pay attention to the gear ratio, if it is an ls, and if it is a 4x4. If it is leaking from the sides it is most likely the inner seal but it is a hassle to put a new one in and could put you down a rabbit trail.
