Well, i guess calling it a "custom build" may be a little bit of a stretch... meh..

So there are 42 variants of the Galaxy S5 globally. Alot of the differences are network related obviously. GSM, CDMA, radio bands and such, but there are actual variants that do have different hardware. Some are physically the same but are a revision to fix or prevent some problem that is/will be problematic. Like something like say... a root exploit and the ability to install a custom boot loader.

Some of the other variants do have completely different hardware. LCDs that wont fit other models, different chip sets that are different in size and shape. Even the charging ports physically are different.

    So...

after the shady way lolipop was rolled out for the verizon versions there was a good chance you just got royally shafted with no way to re-root your s5. Thankfully after quite some time a developer did some developing and developed (unintentionally) a root solution for the s5, but! it would only work (in athe case of verizon models) one specific build.

Under the battery theres that little bit of info about the phone. One of those bits of info is the version number. Just like an app would have.

typically those versions arent available due to being an older s5. So its either see if you can get lucky on facebook and ebay, or try to find a black listed one. Whatever you find will be in pretty crap condition so you are just keeping the chip set and a few other hardware parts. The rest you have to buy and assemble.

Sprint no longer offers the monthly plan on buys. You can either buy it on the spot or lease it. F-ing ridiculous. I don't want to rent a phone, so now I have to save and get a used one :-(

From what I just read researching it, it looks like it's a closed end lease and at the end of 2 years you own it, unless you trade it in on a new phone after 18 months and continue "leasing". It sounds like financing a phone over a 2 year period like every other carrier offers. It's a lot like the Apple Upgrade Program where you finance it at 0% interest for 2 years, but can trade up after 1 year and negate the old finance plan and start a new one.

I always have bought the verizon prepaid phones and then slapped my straight talk sim in it. You get verizon service but for straight talk prices. Things may have changed, they always do, but if it hasnt $55 for unlimited data is a pretty decent deal.

Its verizon service, though it still has its dead zones. Highways and such its typically full signal. Its the best service in Deep East Texas.

From what i understand boost/sprint ect.. Are suppossed to be pretty good in the larger cities where as verizon is hit or miss.

I have the Pixel 2 XL. Best phone I've owned. Will be keeping until the Pixel 4 comes out. Hopefully phone manufacturers ditch the silly looking notch by then.

A lot of issues this new phone, locked beauty filter, must be woken up for wired charging, WiFi and data reception troubles, iMessages going to non-intended recipients.

I don’t do selfies and no issues here but I’m not sure it’s worth the slightly larger size, every other improvement is slight, might return it and keep my X. Mrs wanted my X, but I might get her a new XR instead.

Samsung would absolutely KILL the mobile phone market if they could get away from Android. IMO it is a horrible operating system. iOS works well and integrates across all Apple products, which is why people stick with it. When you put the Galaxy Note against the iPhone XS Max, it blows the Max out of the water. Then you drop in Android and you have a another laggy dud..

The problem isn't Android, it's the fact that Samsung forces you to use their Touchwiz interface, that's the reason it takes so long for Samsung to push out updates. Pure Android works very well on the Pixel phones.

My company makes 100% of our money off of Android devices......I'd say 80% of us use Iphones......majority of our dev team use macs....

Man.... what ever i did to make you hate me i sincerely apologize.
So, since we are bff's now i guess i wont have to worry about all that bloatware on my next droid, right? Awesome!

seriously though, its amazing that phones have the hardware and software they do now days. you sit there and go down the list of the specs and what nots and they are on par with laptops (eh, yall know what i mean). Next thing you know you got it in your hands and the damn device is is using all its resources to run all the manufacturers add on apps and junk. You look a little more and you find all the service provider junk. and lets not forget about google and their "heres an app, and another app, and another app ect.... almost all of it is not necessary for the phone to function and its stuff that you probably wont even use. But by golly! its gonna run in the background no matter what you try to do to stop it!

Can a brotha please get a nexus? god i miss those.
