The A340E/F is the same transmission in our trucks. The only exterior difference is the bellhousing (VZ vs UZ) and the tailshaft housing (E for 2wd and F for 4wd). You'll need the "F" tailshaft housing from a donor trans. If you do replace the trans, don't just go out and stab any old Tundra trans into it. They are not all the same. See this thread for more trans info A340E/F INFO DUMP | Toyota Tundra Forum

Tbh, it confused me. So what vehicles would I find for the transmission to properly do the swap going from v6 2wd to v6 4wd? Or would it only be the 2000-2004 v6 4wd tundras?

I can’t say if the v8 tranny would bolt up to the v6 engine block or not, but the other hang up might be that you’d probably also want to get an engine wire harness from out of a 4wd 2002 v6.

So my donor truck should be a 2000-2004 v6 4wd tundra to have the most compatibility?

Is there anything wrong with you current transmission? If not, you only need to swap over the tail shaft housing and transmission crossmember from the 4wd donor... along with all of the other components to make it 4wd. Read the A340 transmission thread that I linked earlier. The internals are all the same, but there are different pans, filters, sensors, switches and valve bodies along with the 2 different bell housings and tail shaft housings. If you need to replace the trans, you'll more than likely be swapping over these components. You should read @whodatschrome 's build thread, Taco Tuesday Tundra. He also did a 4wd conversion and did a fantastic job of documenting the entire process (pic heavy:D).

No, transmission is perfectly fine, just want 4wd.
