I am losing my mind over this. I just bought a 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 Double Cab with JBL speakers. The guy I bought it from had removed the radio head unit. He bought an aftermarket replacement from goodness knows where (the closest I have found is on ebay here) but he couldn't figure out how to install it so here we are. I don't know what to do. Some things plug in but others don't. The wires are getting power, but nothing will turn on, including the OEM radio that was taken out. The truck's wires are not the right colors, I think. I don't know. I have pictures of everything. Any instruction is greatly appreciated.wire harnesses.jpg OEM Head Unit.jpg IMG20250717143415.jpg IMG20250717143402.jpg IMG20250717143358.jpg IMG20250717143352.jpg IMG20250717143345.jpg IMG20250717143330.jpg IMG20250717143320.jpg IMG20250717143307.jpg IMG20250717140202.jpg IMG20250717140145.jpg IMG20250717140132.jpg IMG20250717140124.jpg center console.jpg Aftermarket Head Unit.jpg wire harnesses.jpg IMG20250717143402.jpgIMG20250717143415.jpg IMG20250717143358.jpg

HVe you read Shifty’s megathread as well as other’s? My understanding is you need buy some adaptors to connect and you need to bypass the JBL amp. Please don’t cut any wires.

If you go to Crutchfield.com and enter in your truck and select a new head unit, it'll list all the adapters that you'll need, as long as nothing has already been cut, it shouldn't be too bad. There will be an amp bypass harness for your stereo. @shifty` will be along shortly and be able to quote all the info you need off the top of his head.

I don't mind helping, but I need to know what all you have, because it doesn't look like what you need. I need to know what's in that pile of stuff, if you've got any adapters I need the part numbers, so I can figure out what you've got and what you're missing.

You must understand: The JBL-equipped trucks are wildly different from those without it. You need to understand a number of things before you tackle this undertaking if you have JBL. There are pages-long threads on here from people who didn't. A lot of misinformation is online about this topic.

The one big decision you need to make first:
    • Are you going to bypass the OEM amp? If so, you should to update the speakers also, and there are considerations to be made in that path.
    • Are you going to use an adaptive kit to repurpose the amp? If so, you not only need to pick a kit, but you need to read the instructions in advance to know if you need to reinstall the OEM head unit, so you can pre-set the radio volume and amp settings where they need it to adapt to using the OEM amp.
At the end of the day, there are a number of ways this can go wrong for you. Crutchfield is king when it comes to giving you the right adapters, but even they don't quite give or have the info you need to do the job right, as we've found on here.
