Hello everyone, I'm new here & I hope someone might be able to help me figure out what's wrong with my 2001 Tundra SR5 3.4 - 4X4 I had just stopped to put oil & power steering fluid in it since they both leak & as I was driving on the freeway it just shut off, it turns over but doesn't start, could it be the crank shaft censor? Or any other suggestion would be appreciated...

Welcome to the forum. were here to help.
Possible, but could be a bunch of other things too. It does have gas in it, right?

Let's start with the basics. The fact that it turns over tells me that it's got power so you can rule out battery and alternator. (Does the starter sound normal or does it sound like a cordless drill?)
Pull a plug and check for spark. If you have spark, then next you'll need to check fuel.
Check that your injectors are getting power. If so, pull an injector and test for fuel.
What work have you done to it recently? The more info you can give us, the better.

Here's a thread that has TONS of First Gen info along with a link to the Field Service Manual, Electrical Diagram and much more. So ... you wanna buy / just bought a 1st Gen Tundra, eh? | Toyota Tundra Forum

Here is a little light reading if you're so inclined to do so as I don't believe that we will be able to properly assist you without any further info from you.

    Welcome from NY.

How many miles on it? Could be the timing belt.

Have you checked the ignition fuse? I always used to remove mine on the 3.4l as a theft prevention.

Since it just died instead of sputtering out, i’m thinking electrical, too. Check engine light come on?

Can confirm as I’ve replaced mine 3 times. Good thing is, the 5VZ is a non-interference motor. That’s why I asked initially if the starter sounds normal or like a cordless drill.

    This.

Timing belts, pretty universally in Japanese cars I've owned, must be changed every 100k. They're rubber. Just like tires. They get old. And when they snap, they can destroy a lot of shit, just not internal to the engine like the V8 4.7L. When was yours last changed, @01 Tundra SR5 ?
