Hi - I have a 2020 LTD with the 5.7L V8 and I plow my own properties. I am not a professional plow contractor. The truck moves snow effortlessly, even up our steep camp road. But it gets lousy MPG, as all of you surely know, whether with the plow or just cruising.

My Toyota salesman is sending me deals on the 2024. He says his dealer really wants my trade-in and they're talking turkey (they always say that though).

It looks like the new smaller motor with turbo has comparable horsepower, but that's on paper. Have folks here actually put this new motor to the test, either pushing or pulling? (I tow a 24 foot boat in summer.) My sales guy has no verifiable info.

Also, with a hybrid, does the strain of plowing create any adverse issues? I drove a Prius for a while back when gas was $4+ per gallon, and when you stomped on the gas or even if you started up an incline, the gas motor would engage.

    Thoughts, tips, experiences?

The hybrid for Gen 3s were designed as a way to deliver "diesel like torque" without getting bogged down in EPA testing.

All of these topics have been covered in threads here, some ad nauseum. The new trucks will pretty much do everything your old truck will do. Plus, it's the newest most up to date model, so many of the things it does even better.

Thanks for the "sarcasm" Knabores, but I searched first and found nothing. Maybe you can suggest a better search method. I doubt you do a lot of snow plowing in Arkansas so I'll leave the thread out there for someone who might provide a helpful reply on the topic.

Couldn’t find a single thread on towing with the 3rd Gen? Or one about plowing? Believe it or not, there was no sarcasm intended. There are lots of threads about towing, everyone thinks the 3rd gen tows great aside from some rear end sag with heavier tongue weights (rear air suspension cures that) and initially snow plowing was not recommended with the 3rd gen presumably due to potential airflow issues with the turbo intercoolers. Some have managed to plow with the 3rd Gen anyway, so it can be done.

Depending on the electric motor to assist in repeated use during cold weather probably isn't a good plan.

Why don't you just sit back, enjoy your 2020 and give me a call to plow your properties? I'll give you a good deal.

Yeah, that's at the heart of my question. I like the idea of a hybrid getting better gas mileage for the 98% of the miles I drive WITHOUT a plow. When I drove a hybrid (Prius) the electric motor engaged when starting out. Unless I was going uphill or unless I stomped on the gas, the electric motor powered the car up to approx 25 MPH. It didn't matter how cold it was. Pushing snow I imagine the electric motor would not engage for more than a second before the normal gas motor takes over. That might be totally ok, but I'm wondering if it is somehow bad, and I should just forego the hybrid option.

    low range and no problem.
*rear is low in first pic because I have the air suspension at the lowest setting.

Most other forums don't recommend a hybrid and as I know some the 12v batt is not under the hood. Ford only sell the plow package on the 5.0 only the last I checked but thats Ford:eek:
