I'll be towing our 22' Crest Pontoon boat (~5,000 lbs) as soon as it hits the 500 mile mark. Oh and after I actually receive the truck. Lol.

Has anybody pulled a 25' (or so) travel trailer? TFL Truck spoke highly of the Tundra's towing ability in their Ike Gauntlet test with a flat deck loaded with a pickup truck (total weight 8100 lbs) but that set up doesn't reflect the wind resistance you'll experience with a large travel trailer. If you have pulled a larger travel trailer, have you experienced any towing issues with the size or weight of the trailer?

It will pull a travel trailer very well if the Ecoboost is any indication. Even my 2014, with a measly 420 ft-lbs of torque, pulls my 24' travel trailer like a locomotive. I usually have my cruise set to 70 mph and it will climb pretty much anything at that speed.

I am guessing the Tundra will pull most trailers without breaking 3000 rpm unless conditions are extreme.

I have a 2022 Tundra 1974 2wd. It’s Silver with the brown interior. I tow a double axle 20 ft utility trailer. It pulls effortlessly going forward. Reversing sucks. I’ve disabled every parking and collision aid but the truck will still panic brake on its own randomly as I’m reversing the trailer into my backyard. I hate it because there is no warning it just locks the brakes up all of a sudden and the gauge cluster throws the red warning messages. I need to ask the dealer if it’s by design or if siento gin is messed up.

I believe his question wasn't about the powertrain. It was about if the suspension on this 1/2 ton pickup (like any other 1/2 ton) will be able to handle the tongue weight and sway of an enclosed trailer. Powertrain has nothing to do with this.

I'll be towing a 12ft aluminum jon boat. Maybe 500lbs between the boat and trailer. I don't expect the the truck to struggle much. :D

The Gm is 20k more then the tundra. They should of used the Tundra Limited with the air suspension, only 5k more. It would of had a smother ride.

Not sure, but I don’t think air susp comes on Limited in Canada - they would need to get the platinum in Canada for that - but yes may have been more apples to apples

The Truck King Canucks know trucks and this really informative video did answer my question. A couple points of note:
    - The trailer weight is 7000 lbs with a tongue weight of 946 lbs. The truck's payload is 1490 lbs so they were likely approaching payload capacity with two big guys in the cab.
    - They did not use a weight distribution hitch or anti-sway setup. They simply dropped the trailer tongue on the truck hitch resulting in 2 3/4" of squat. The wind was really blowing and the wind did not blow the truck around at all. They were on snow covered roads with some washboard and good size hills and the truck performed well. The truck was not working hard and the transmission was not hunting for gears on the hills. They did note they felt a lot of 'road chatter', which they attributed to the fully boxed steel frame on the Tundra.

It would be good to know if the stock mirrors on the Tundra were adequate enough to see around the trailer or if mirror extensions are required.

This Truck King video as well as TFL Truck's Ike Gauntlet test give me confidence that the Tundra Limited twin turbo V6 with 1490 lbs payload capacity will meet my needs. I look forward to seeing some hot weather towing tests as well as the upcoming hybrid tests to see how they compare.

Haven’t towed yet but will shortly. Typical tows will be two horses in a two horse slant load trailer and a twin axle 10 foot dump trailer. Part of the reason I bought this truck was for the towing…my old Tacoma wasn’t going to cut it with the horses.

I just took mine on it’s first trip. I tow a 36ft travel trailer. Weight is 8700 hitch 1000. I use a weight distribution setup and swag control as well. Previously towed this same setup with a 2020 Tundra.

first, the airbag suspension sets completely level. Could not accomplish this with the old truck.

I averaged about 8-10 miles a gallon on a 170 mile trip while towing and could hold 65-70 at 2k rpm.

the stock mirrors don’t really allow for sight down the sides but I had the same issue in my previous tundra. Installing cameras on the trailer solved the issue for me.

the negative is that the sway was awful. I don’t know if the lighter backend of the new truck caused this but it wasn’t the case of the old truck. It was a constant fight even with all the steering and lane assists turned off. Making another trip in a month with it and adjusting my hitch height to see if it helps. I’ll report back then.

    I towed a pop up camper this weekend - ~21', 2K lbs.

    Pros:
-Backup camera was amazing, had a nice dashed green line that I was able to use to line the ball hitch up perfectly each time without a 2nd person
-Could hardly feel anything behind me, was quickly and easily passing people in the left line heading up multiple mountain passes ~65MPH.

    Cons:
-Computer assistance seemed to be jacked up - I went through and "added" the trailer, set it's weight, but it kept saying "TBC Not Available", which I'm assuming is the Trailer Brake Control. I would adjust the gain from 1.0 to 10.0, but didn't notice any change, so my gut tells me it wasn't working. The place I rented it from told me the trailer had brakes, so not sure what the deal was, will be bringing this up to Toyota when I go in for service, and will try to test with a different trailer hopefully to see whether it was the Tundra or the trailer that was having issues (guessing it was the Tundra, unfortunately). Additionally, the screen would randomly say "Trailer Disconnected", although the running lights stayed on when this message would pop up, so again, seemed just like a funky computer error. As @robertr020 mentioned above, the Parking Assist would beep no matter what (you can silence this temporarily by clicking the "OK" button on the wheel which is nice), and when the trailer is connected via the computer, I believe it is supposed to automatically disable the rear parking brake assist, but I also experienced random times where it would engage and lock up when reversing. I manually disable this every day when I park in my driveway as I pull super close to my garage, and I'd say 1/10 times it will ignore that I turned it off and engage anyway - gives a nice scare to the wife when it happens :)

Hoping these are all just kinks to be worked out in a firmware upgrade - as mentioned, will be bringing all of this up to Toyota when I bring in for service.

All in all, an amazing camping trip with the family :)

I can post pictures later, but I tow my 23 1/2 foot center console Sea Hunt boat. Tows phenomenally. Can't really tell its back there. Pulls it out of the water with ease.

Our trailer is 26' and weighs 5500 lbs while our hardside pop up weighs about 3500 lbs. I was really surprised how well it towed the full size trailer. I'm did some additional tweaking on the WD hitch to get more of the weight moved up front on the truck but it pulls harder than our 5.7 Ram 1500 did with about the same mileage 10ish. The trailer has the lift kit on it so it's even less aerodynamic than the standard one. The pop up gets 15 mpg. The trailer brakes on the pop up had a lag to them until I turned up the brake controller to 6.5 and I ran the larger camper at 6.5 as well and had no braking or handling issues. I throw some airbags on the truck at some point only because I'll be throwing more gear in the bed and getting close to the GVWR at times I imagine. The 10 speed tranny along with the tow haul modes are very impressive, did a great job of keeping the engine at a sustainable RPM without hunting for the correct gear.

Pulled this for about 1000 miles this past week.
    -4500#
    -Weight distributing hitch
    -70 on the highway
-55 to 65 in the hills of VT and NH
    -12.5 MPG
-family of 4 and gear loaded in the truck

Definitely noticed squat and more bounce before I hooked up the weight distribution bars.

Weird, because his post talked about wind resistance so I assumed he was talking about the truck ability to pull it through the wind. I didnt see anything mentioned about sway.

I think you have to be careful running air bags and a WDH. The problem is, when the bags lift the rear of the truck, its also unloading the spring bars of the WDH. You gotta make sure that the spring bars are set such that they are fully engaged when the truck is at its normal ride height, which is not how you would set it up on a leaf sprung truck. In other words, you almost have to lift the rear of the truck put the bars on, then lower it so that the bars tension as you approach ride height.

With leafs, you expect the rear to drop 1-2". It usually even says it in the WDH manual.

Probably the most in depth video ever made in relation to weight distribution hitches and air suspension with before and after measurements, weight per axle, and more.

We have a 30' (measured tongue to bumper) TT, weighs approx. 7600lb loaded (dry weight is 5600 lb). I weighed the tongue weight, came in at 1000lb (I need to fix how I'm loading the trailer). I was a little nervous towing with my new CM 4x4. Hooked it up last weekend with a WDH, the back dropped 2", the front didn't move. Truck tows great! The 10spd is really nice (very smooth shifting). Holds 60mph going up hills no problem, didn't experience any drift. The trailer is more noticeable than towing with my old RAM 2500 gas, but that's expected. I actually prefer the Tundra for shifting over the 2500 (had a 5sp automatic). Feels as good or better than my previous 2018 RAM 1500 (5.7 hemi). I'm quite impressed with this truck so far!
