I did a pretty aggressive CMC on my truck (twice) and blended the pinch weld as close to flush as I could without losing too much rigidity in the firewall and it still doesn’t give me the clearance I’d like on 37’s.

I come from a background of trucks on air ride and laying frame/body with tubbed firewalls etc. and there definitely seems to be a lot of room that could be made on these trucks with a simple tub made of a steel trailer fender frenched into the firewall or something similar.

Here are a few pictures of the tub job I did on my Tacoma. The tundra will be similar, but much cleaner this time around.

    Couple small updates.
I cranked up my coilovers about an inch to get rid of some of the rake. It still rides good with plenty of down travel still and no binding in the CV 's at full droop and turn.
I trimmed my cab mount back all the way to the bushing and I can drive it around town with zero rubbing. And I can hit bumps around town while turning so no issues driving it. I'm hoping to pull the coilovers in the next couple weeks to cycle the suspension and cut out what needs to be out of the way for clearance.
I also took the truck out on a little stretch of dirt near the shop and the truck still gets up and moves with the 39's. I hit about 80 in a little rough stretch of road and it rides great.
I cleaned it up Thursday and it's sitting in a booth at a little 4x4 expo in Ruidoso this weekend. I always forget how good it looks all cleaned up. And it looks at home on the new tires.

What kind of lift are you running with those 39's?

I've run Kanatis before and loved em. Excellent price point too - even with the increase cost in rubber, they're still very competitive. Have you had them before you bought this set?

My last set was a set of the kanati mud hogs. 37x12.50. They are pretty decent tires at a great price point.

Here are some of the updates from the last couple months.
I hard wired the WeBoost into a switch, installed a frac harness and front camera, and because of the camper I added a wolfbox rear camera and front dash cam. I couldn't care less about the dash cam but I guess it's an ok feature to have.
Today I also bolted up the rear console mount from ICS Fab. I've seen somebody that bolted cupholders to the mount before, but I can't find any amps pattern cupholders.

I got the truck out this afternoon for a quick drive. We have a couple weekends of camping coming up and I wanted to be sure we could use the truck for what we needed without doing the full tub job first.
The 39's clear well enough currently to not worry about until it's time to really get out and wheel it.

Man those look sweet. From that distance in those pics the clearance that the 39’s give give your truck a classic 60 series cruiser look. Which I love. Well done.

Thanks man. The new version of the front bumper isn't for everyone, but I think it looks perfect with big tires behind it.

When I first had 39s the rear tire would rub on the high clearance bumper when flexing.

See you in the 40s club soon

Yeah I have a feeling when I tub the firewall and trim the fenders I'll end up having to build new bumpers for it. And I'll definitely be cutting enough out while I'm in there to go up a size just in case.

I chopped off 4” from the rear bumper wings to clear 40s.

Your 39s might rub harder than mine did cuz my truck is a lot taller so the bumper was further away from the tire.

Yeah I'm curious to see how much needs to be cut off. I just need a couple days to squeeze it in the shop.

We ended up camping this weekend for the solar eclipse. Truck did great and airing down the tires makes it ride so smooth over big loose rocks. Airing down with an indeflate from 42 psi to 20 psi took 4 minutes and 45 seconds, airing back up to 42 psi took almost 18 minutes. Not terrible but it has me thinking about a new compressor.
I can't wait to get cutting on the truck to make it all correct. But even without tubbing I didn't rub a single time getting to our camp spot, although I didn't drive it like I usually do.

I wonder what this set up would look like with portals then glass fenders.

Does that mean 39" KM3 and KO2s would also have similar clearance?

Portals are cool, but I would have a very hard time justifying something like that for this build. And I love fiberglass fenders but it only looks good with long travel and wider rear axles. If this truck ever ends up with long travel that would definitely happen though.

I believe the bfg's run a bit small, but they don't make it in a 12.50, just a 13.50 that I've found. It would be the same amount of work regardless to make them fit correctly.
