A few posts in the SC thread have me thinking, it's been documented at 1/4 tank or below the pump loosing suction under hard acceleration. I also know our trucks (especially the 38 gal tank models) keep a large "reserve" capacity in the tank to make sure the pump is always fed. Changing my pump yesterday w/ the DW300 for my Harrop had me thinking of other ideas from past racing and other cars. This will not only help at low fuel levels, but allow me to comfortably use the "reserve" fuel when offroad and not on level terrain.

The fuel pump "basket" functions as a partial surge tank, when I removed it, it doesn't drain out unless tipped to drain. This has me thinking of a transfer pump install when I swap to a 38 gallon (hopefully next time my tank comes down).

The idea would be keep the stock basket intact as-is with the DW300 and add another submersible pump that will keep the basket full at all times by pulling fuel from the front and rear of the tank. I haven't looked into a pump yet, but that's the easy part. Bulkhead electrical terminal kits are available and the idea would be to utilize Walbro MP-12 or similar pucks installed inside the tank. This would be a secondary/redundant system to the OEM fueling that works just fine over 1/4 tank, on level ground, and up to reasonable HP goals. Something like (2) inline at the front of the tank, hard tubed to the transfer pump that's filling the basket with (2) more at the rear of the tank.

This project is way down the road as work is sending me out of town for a while, but I wanted to talk through it and see what others may have done or are doing. Other than, just keeping the tank full.

That may work similarly to the Walbro ones, but not sure the inline pump would like it running dry. The Walbro's are supposed to have internal valves that the moment they suck air, then close flow and transfer suction to the others that are submerged. Thanks for the link, good to see what other parts are out there.

I remember seeing it on a car show a couple years ago. Supposed to help with starvation when the fuel sloshes around. I have no idea if you could put an extension hose on new pump or if it could keep up with a higher volume pump.

Have you found a used 38gal tank or are you buying new? After towing for 2k miles, I now find myself "needing" a 38gal tank...in my duramax days, I used a puck sump for a lift pump that was absolutely amazing...drill a hole in the bottom the tank and it was low profile (~1") and routed the hose appropriately to the lift pump...couldn't something be done like that?

I've been looking for a used tank casually, when I'm ready, I'll buy whatever I can get a hold of.

That sump connection is pretty slick, but I'm trying to keep it all internal or at least not lose ground clearance. For a street truck, it would work great.

I did find a couple Lemons racecar posts about using the Walbro pucks for a transfer pump system and sucking tanks down to 1 gallon remaining while on track.

@VWTim awhile back I purchased 3 walbro pucks. Plan was to have one in each rear corner and one inline a foot forward of the rear plumbed to canister. I ditched that and used the ffv canister with a walbro 450. The canister has a larger venturi system and a walbro 450 model 267 fits with no mod to canister. Found a half circle filter that fit bottom of canister. No issues running hard when I had about 3 gallons left before fill up.

That's really good to hear, I'll have to track down a FFV canister to start playing with.

I used this as a reference and @Silver17 mentioned it being used by matt smith from fb group. Don't think @4firemandan has been around. https://www.tundras.com/threads/5-7-supercharged-e85-fuel-system-diy-project.101526/
The supply and return are reversed and plug is towards back. The unused fuel port needs to be blocked. A quantum fuel systems filter fits the canister. You do have to trim the excess plastic. I wrapped it in painters tape to prevent contamination while trimmimg. https://www.amazon.com/HFP-S65-3-St...310217&sprefix=hfp+s65+quantum,aps,176&sr=8-3
